  1. I have two questions! One's related to this post and another is related to magnesium levels in the water; so how can you tell if algae is suspended in the water? My water is cloudy and tinted green, I've been keeping the light off because I read that keeping that on helps algae grow, but I don't want to risk getting a UV light if something else is the problem. Also! I noticed at the store you can get liquid magnesium for aquariums similar to getting liquid calcium, both are used for coral reefs but I was wondering if they could also be used for my mystery snail to prevent paralysis from lack of it. Thanks!
  2. Hey y'all! Hope everyone's alright. I've been experiencing what I can only assume is an algae bloom in my aquarium, the water is warm and clean ( temperature is at 80°, tank is cycled and levels are normal, no spike in ammonia or anything ) and I was looking into ways to fix this Bloom. I got recommended to a UV sterilizer, and the one I can afford recommended putting it into the filter tank to avoid making direct contact with the fish and water. Does anyone have experience with UV sterilizers?
  3. Thank you! I've purchased the salt and I'll continue to monitor and test my water
  4. I no longer have live plants! I have all fake plants but I'll try the aquarium salt!
  5. Nitrate levels should be under 20 ppm, I've been using the test strips which is why I say my water parameters are fine, there's no ammonia or nitrates in the water, the test strips are coming back well but the fish is still behaving erratically.
  6. He's eating for sure and is active around the tank, not spitting food out or anything but he does some erratic swimming every now and then. No hanging near the surface or anything
  7. The tank is fully cycled I've had it for 6 months. Temperature is set to 80° for the betta fish, ammonia and nitrates are all under 0.5; pH is 7.
  8. Another photo; he's doing something I can only describe as excitedly shaking, not consistently shimmying or twitching. It's very random that I'll see him twitch or dart quickly side to side. I'm worried that he's got ich or something I can't see.
  9. Water qualities are fine, ammonia, nitrates are 0, temperature is warm, I'm not sure if I just got a sick fish from the store a few days ago or if everything's okay
  10. Hi there! I got a new Betta fish a few days ago and noticed he had some spots that looked like old person spots on his back! I was wondering if it's something i should be worried about or if it's just his coloring!
  11. Water parameters are all normal! I think I just need to vacuum the gravel more often, I'll have to buy a smaller head because the one I'm using now is for water changes and it gulps all the water down too fast!
  12. I did read that loaches will eat them, issue is that I have a betta and a snail who seem uninterested!
  13. Hey all! Anyone have any tips for getting rid of detritus worms? I've seen some supplies online for getting rid of detritus, and I know for sure not to use dewormer, but I've got a nasty bloom of little guys and want to get a hold on them!
  14. It must be worm season cause my tank has a bunch of em sprouting up too ! Did a water change today and some additional advice regarding the detritus worms is to monitor how much you're feeding your animals and live plants! They'll also feed on plant waste so if you do have live plants or additional algae in there, keep an eye on it 🙂
  15. Got a little glass dish just under the water line so he can get in and out of it without Oberon sneaking around trying to get the food, he's enjoying some broccoli stem now!
