Mystery snail eggs & inverts journal
redfish replied to Chick-In-Of-TheSea's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
I might add some guppy grass to the tank. I have some java moss in the tank but it isn't looking great. I also have some Dwarf Sag Hair Grass I'm trying to get going too. I need to get the lighting set up to help with this. Just been too busy.- 1,880 replies

Testing Redux: Fixing the Seachem Tidal Bypass
redfish replied to nabokovfan87's topic in Experiments
I recently picked up an AquaClear 70 to replace an old HOB in my 55g. I read through your mods and thought to myself, I didn't have time to do all of this but maybe one day. I see flaws or opportunities for improvements in most of the popular HOB's but they work good enough as is I guess.- 36 replies

Thanks for keeping these updates going. @Pepere What do you plan to use on the 75g for filtration?- 36 replies

@Hawyun Does the algae brush off easily from the plant leaves? Can you use your fingers to clean off the leave easily?

100 watt Aquarium Coop Heater for 55 gallon
redfish replied to Ohio FishPlant Dude's topic in General Discussion
I agree with Andy. I use one 100 watt ACO heater in my 55 gal and it works fine to hold the tank at 78 degrees. I do keep the ambient temperature around the tank in the 70-76 degree range year round. -
Wow, That's jumping back in with both feet! Congrats and welcome!

Mystery snail eggs & inverts journal
redfish replied to Chick-In-Of-TheSea's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
Awesome. I need to get busy and get some shrimp ordered. I've been letting the tank mature with a female betta for 6+ months now....I cleaned the tank and the betta freaked out and hides now 😟- 1,880 replies

How does water lettuce hold up to RR?
redfish replied to KittenFishMom's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
I have successfully used RR on several plants, including dwarf water lettuce. You can divide into two batches if you are worried about killing everything at one time. Now, keeping the plants alive after planting, that's a different story. 🤣 -
I hope you get this figured out. I've been holding off on trying to hatch some as I don't need another thing to keep up with right now. Maybe one day.
-
Get more plants like @PineSong has to grow. I ordered 3 bunches of corkscrew val and none survived. Dwarf sag hair grass is kinda surviving but not replicating like I hoped too.

I've helped folks when they looked like they needed it too. It's good to give back to the community. I took the time to complement a worker at a LFS on how he guided a customer on which fish to buy. He did a great job explaining the fish behaviors and asking the customer about their current tank setup, occupants, etc. He is a younger guy and it was good to see. He seemed to really appreciate being complemented by a stranger walking around the fish store. 😊 I usually try to not get in the way at a store but don't be afraid to complement someone!

I bought a pepper grinder for the cichlid pellets you use. A short turn puts out enough for the tank to eat on. The tetra's and guppies eat them but our ram isn't shy about getting his food with the community. Waldo, our kuhli loach, eats any pieces missed by the rest of the fish.

Just when you think you are in the clear...
redfish replied to redfish's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, the tanks were set to the same temp and everything else is the same. The tanks are sitting next to each other so it was easy to move tanks. I am surprised one died but the only thing I can figure is the netting process was rough on it. -
I moved two Otocinclus out of a 4 week quarantine yesterday afternoon and I guess one didn't like the transfer process. I did bump one trying to get it in the net. One is fine and one died within an hour of transfer. Tank parameters really close to each other so I don't suspect any issues there. Sometimes it just happens. I guess I'll add another couple Oto's to my next purchase. Happy Friday!

Welcome and good on you for not giving up!

Ok, I give up... What is the top secret super glue gel trick?
redfish replied to jwcarlson's topic in General Discussion
I've had mixed results too @jwcarlson I had trouble gluing rocks to wood to keep it down. I eventually got it to hold after letting it cure outside the tank with lots of pressure. I've not had as many issues gluing plants to rocks as wood. -
What's worse than water all over the fishroom floor?
redfish replied to tolstoy21's topic in Fish Breeding
This was my first thought also. I know Tolstoy21 has several tanks and I thought one failed. -
I have not seen an angelfish that I liked as much as these. Angels don't get me excited in general but these changed that. Wow.
-
Ok. Don't panic when they go through the new tank syndrome then. It happens to everyone. That's pretty impressive if you just set up all those tanks within the last couple weeks!
-
Welcome to the hobby and forum. Nice tanks!

Welcome. Beautiful tanks!

Awesome intro into the forum. Looking forward to seeing how all this turns out!

Semi-budget 40g Breeder Aquascape Journal
redfish replied to Schuyler's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
Since they are sold as feeder shrimp, I don’t think they are meant to be very hardy. The price was cheap enough for me to try them out and see if they would survive. I only see any aggressive behavior when they are foraging for the food. They get excited and grab what they find, sometimes chasing each other for the food. I planned to move them into our community tank if they survived quarantine. Now I’m debating keeping them in the 5 gal. We are setting up a 10 gal for some Neo shrimp so this was kinda a trial run for shrimp also.- 390 replies
