  1. I guess that's true. Can't really guess with chemistry. And you've tested the times!!? That's actually s good idea. I think I'll heed the advice then! I have invested in test strips as I have three tanks going now. Put they read in different units to the PPM that I'm used to! LOL. I guess the fun is in the learning
  2. Do people actually shake for the times recommend on the nitrate test? I can't bring myself to do it!
  3. Set the tank up and leave it running for a week before adding fish......
  4. Like this?? The only thing I added to this filter was a really fine pad on the bottom layer of sponge. And its a 90degree angle so it fits in really nicely and is barley seen from the front view.
  5. Had great fun reading this thread! Especially the 4k submarine thing! I like to go fishing also (mostly course fishing for large carp) and a buddy has a cam thing that attaches to fishing gut and is shaped like a rocket. Its always pointing at the bait and you can see how the fish act around the bait. My invention would be a brain scaner thing so we could just know what the fish were thinking, Somtimes i wonder if im doing a good enough job for them and just wanna know how they feel (a little far fetched i know!) LOL
  6. Ive had a very similar issue. I ended up putting all the fish in a bucket with the heater for like an hour while I tore the tank down and added the substrate and then the gravel on top and rescaping. It was a pain but I am happy how it turned out as I have Sword plants and they seem to be doing better with the enriched substrate underneith. I also am playing with carpeting plants but I dont inject Co2 so I doubt I will have much success. But they were cheap so I think it is worth a try. Side note: see how I have the substrate thick at the back and thin at the front? That has made it so much more asthetically pleasing from the front view! Hope this is infromative and helps some bit! Sorry for the glare!
  7. This gigantic mouse mat that goes across my whole desk. It's also a world map so when I find myself playing a game with long loading times (cos I don't have an SSD) I find myself looking and trying to locate places/capitals and that sort of thing. It's made me smarter 😂 I got it on wish. Not sure if that's popular in the States? Put it was less than 10euro
  8. Update: I have taken out the fuse for the marine light so its just the Philips one on now. First look is that the tank is much brighter and the the Oscar is looking a bit happier!
  9. Thank you fot that! I found the labels on the bulbs and almost feel silly now! it says marine right on there!!! LOL.
  10. I recently got this 240L (I think that's 65G) tank second hand and I knew with my first large tank I wanted to keep an Oscar. (His name is Moby, lol) however I've noticed after a few days now that he's not a fan of the lights and to add to that I'm not a fan, makes the tank looked washed out and pale. I also feel it's the purple light that is the main culprit of the Oscar being unhappy as it comes on a a few moments after the the normal coloured bulb and that's when he shys away at the bottom of the tank or under the filter. I'm wondering are they for salt water/coral? I'll replace if I have to and if anyone can offer any suggestions id be grateful. ps, I'm new here so I hope if posted this in the correct manor and place Thank you in advance Peter from Ireland 👋
  11. What are we looking at here? Studio? Fish room? Front room? I bet it's gonna be amazing
  12. That is super cool! Do you just randomly find the eggs? is there a behaviour to watch out for?
  13. A long way from the video I watched recently of you stacking cavity blocks and timber for a rack!
  14. My first and my second aqurium I've set up. Really enjoy livebearers and seeing all the little fry!
  15. How are the midnight rams doing? Do they breed true?
  16. Hello! My name is Peter and I am from Ireland. I got into the hobby around 6 months ago with a 5 gallon tank for a book shelf. i put a few mollies and a few cardinals in there followed by some simple plants like java fern and anubias. Did some research and found Aqurium Co-Op and got hooked on the chanel and the hobby! Set up a seoncd 32L tank for some guppies (whom are loving my hard water and making lots of fry). With this tank I am playing with some more plants like Swords and stem plants. I just got a 240L second hand for super cheap and built a stand out of some ply and 2x4. (in the proccess of painting it as i type......well my partner is) with this tank I am going to get an oscar (picking it up tomorrow) Love the hobby.................Love this community and looking forward to using this forum.
