Goosedub
I just got the ziss bbs hatchery. I saw on the coops video that Cory doesn’t strain his bbs, he just puts the salt ammonia shrimp water straight in the tank. I think Dean strains his. What do you all do? Garren
I don't strain mine. Straight into the tank. 1

Hobbit
I don’t rinse! I only strain if I can’t get a high concentration of shrimp (like when I’m trying to get all the remnants that don’t cluster at the light). I’ve never seen I’ll effects on my fish, but some water sprite in my grow out tank ended up kicking the bucket. 😅
laritheloud
I strain, don't bother to rinse.

mountaintoppufferkeeper
I do the drain through a 120 micron sieve then a turkey baster of tank water to the inverted sieve into a container. Strain no rinse for me. Feed from that container with a no drip baster and the remaining I do not feed that day go into a silicone icecube tray for freezing

Daniel
No straining, salt water and shrimp all go in together. I measured the amount of saltwater once and it was 1/8 teaspoon. I suspect the ocean reef crystals I use to make of the brine shrimp water is good for both the plants and fish in the tank in the long run. But it would take a very long run for the saltwater to amount to anything.

Interesting.....and just how many times have you eaten the shrimp yourself?😆

Nick92028
I remember seeing a video of Cory filming Dean straining and rinsing his BBS but I cant find it. Anyone have the link?
WhitecloudDynasty
I strain and rinse, if you feed twice a day everyday the tds will go way up. If I wanted salt in my aquarium I would just add what I need separately Edited January 22, 2022 by WhitecloudDynasty

CJs Aquatics
Honestly I haven’t figured out a system yet lol sometimes I strain, other times I put it right in the tank, I’m personally just trying to figure out what feels right and make it a habit
BuzzDaddy21
I got a net to strain, sometimes not then freeze. I only feed a few so a batch will last a good while.🙃

Levi_Aquatics
I don’t strain. I just collect and dump the salt water in with the shrimp. I mainly feed guppies and they enjoy the extra minerals.
B1gJ4k3
I keep going back and forth on it. I don’t feel good putting a bunch of extra salt in my tank, so I usually try to strain/rinse with warmish water to make it easier to squirt in with a pipette. But when I do, it seems like it kills 75% of the hatch, which seems to defeat the purpose. Anybody else have this issue?
tolstoy21
I only strain when I'm emptying out the whole hatching container (typically at night). In the mornings, I just use a pipette and collect brine (once they have settled to bottom of container) and just squirt that directly into tanks, salt and all. So in the AM no straining. In the PM straining.

I’ve personally never had this happen. How are you straining or rinsing them? I wonder if they’re getting crushed against the seive? When I do strain my bbs (for freezing for instance) I strain the shrimp and then add them to a cup of fresh water.
