  1. after 9 months they finally bred. I added some wondershell. maybe my water was too soft. now they are breeding like mad. Also have blue shrimp breeding like mad as well.
  2. looks like reticulated hillstream loach fry. I have a ton breeding in my fancy goldfish tank. they start off streamline and get the adult shape much later.
  3. so it look like different females are berried. I have java moss in there along w/ anubis. shrimp are from 2 different sources. a breed from my local fish club and some from local fish store. i do water changes 1x/week about 1/2-1 gallon at a time. maybe I'll add more. could the temp be too cold. Have only had this tank from fall onwards in northern california. i have not seen any baby shrimp at all- I would expect some by now. going to local fish store tomorrow to trade in some red shrimp and panda guppies. will use the store credit to get more orange ones if they have them.
  4. I can't get my 7 orange neocardia shrimp to breed. I have both males and females and some of the females look berried. tank is 2.5 g up for 5 mos. planted tank with a sponge filter. alder cones and catapa leave. the adults are doing fine. eating molting. temp is 72F, nitrate -10, nitrite-0, gh 150, kh 80, ph 7. chlorine-0. measured on coop test strip. I have a red neocardia shrimp set up in same room-different tank and they are breeding like mad. Any ideas why these won't breed. Feeding them shimp envy and bacter ae every other day, alternating with shrimp dinner and rep ashy soilent green. thanks
  5. I have bred koi anglefish, apistogramma, guppies, plecos, german blue rams, cherry shrimp, japanese trap door snails, reticulated millstream loaches, daisy rice fish and platys. what I want to stop breeding-platys- they are in a 100g planted tanks with Anglefish. for some reason the fry are not being eaten by the angelfish and I am beginning to get overrun. will need to try to catch them to bring to local fish store. not looking forward to this.
  6. MTS, I have rabbit snail that had babies and baby did not look like that
  7. these are beautiful. put me on the list as well. red leopard bob?
  8. this is so amazing. seriously planning to get one of those. I miss my salt water spiny puffer.
  9. i have wood. the ph is 6.8 and kh is 3. will try feeding more
  10. I also have albino fry sharing the water as well and they are fine and growing- I have them in a hang on breeder box. I just can't seem to keep the super red ones.
  11. my water is very soft- low tds. I feed repashy silent green and morning wood. They are in guppy fry grow out tank- cycled and has been running for months. parameters are in my 1st post. I have adult albinos in another tank and they do fine and are breeding the super reds are all about 1-1.5 inches. could it be the age and that they are small.
  12. I have been having issues raising up super red bristle nose pleco's. I have multiple tanks and all but 1 have passed away before adulthood. the tanks have good parameters. 0 ammonia and nitrite. 25 nitrate. ph 6.8. temp 78. all from different sources. I got 1 female to 15 months then she passed. Any ideas? my albinos are doing great and breeding.
  13. i am breeding panda guppies. They breed like other guppies. Only issue is to try to make sure your female did not breed with another type of guppy. Mine had a sneaker dad and it too me 4 fry cycles before I got true panda guppy fry and got rid of all the mutt guppy fry.
  14. i add sera micro fry food 50% spiralina and I also use green water. I get more daphnia this way then just green water alone
  15. the cockatoos are a lot easier to spawn. I put in a pair and after a month got fry
  16. I removed the female and left her w/ the fry in a separate grow out tank until I wanted her to breed again. Also helps to find a LFS that will take them off your hands. It takes 3-6 Mos. until the fry are sellable. hope that helps
  17. Does anyone know what these patches are on my goldfish. He is eating well and acting normal. I 1st thought it was an abrasion, but I just noticed another patch near his tail fin. temp=76 nitrate 25 nitrite 0 gh 300 kh 40 ph 6.8 chlorine 0 Thanks oh, and the other fish are fine. I only have fancy gold fish, reticulated hillstream loaches and snails in this tank.
  18. I have a similar issue. I had a male super red BN pleco breed with a yellow female w/ red eyes- they call that pineapple BN at my LFS. Most of my fry are dark-as well. There are a few lighter ones.. I will grow out to see what I get. I am waiting for my female super red BN to age to 1.5 yrs before I breed the dad to her to see what I get then. Any ideas on why I got so many dark one?
  19. I've been told by my LFS that decreasing ph below 7 results in more male fry.
  20. no fry left in the cave- I was able to pour them all out
  21. I just bred bristle nose places. babies are free swimming and out of cave. how do you get the dad out? I want him out so he will eat and fatten up
  22. i agree, it depends on the store. My LFS gives me 50% of what they sell the fish for. I only ask for store credit. This way it is a win for them as they can sell the fish and I will buy more from them.
  23. i use a shrimp net to fish out all the guppy fry to a grow out tank and so far all are well and growing
