  1. 540 gallons. The best part is that it has run for 13 year without a filter.
  2. Hey! I feed that food!
  3. Yes, that was my tank as it looked on January 1, 2010. The val/sag plant I bought as pygmy chain sword. The pygmy chain sword got a little larger than I expected though. I went to mostly hardscape only in this tank in 2013, so currently it looks like this: I didn't think I would like a tank with few plants, but overtime I came to appreciate its subtle qualities.
  4. In this tank which was 85F I had Amazon sword, dwarf chain sword, java fern, rotala, red melon sword, Jungle Val. So I can tell you what worked for me. I haven't grown anubias in a long time but I have heard it does well warm water. I currently have water sprite in a 86F discus tank and it is growing well. I don't know about cryptocoryne or octopus.
  5. I think @Struggle is right.
  6. My answer above didn't feel right, it couldn't just be particle size, because lighter fluid molecules are bigger than water molecules and lighter fluid evaporates more quickly than water. A more dominate predictor of evaporation rates is inter-molecular forces. I found this paper. From what I can tell in a quick read, medicines can evaporate to a certain extent. So, that what I get for shooting from the hip! Very interesting topic. Much additional reading is necessary.
  7. How a substance readily something evaporates is related to molecule size. Water molecules are small and evaporate easily. Molecules like erythromycin are quite large and aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
  8. They look really flat?
  9. Tubifex and Blackworms are in same family as earthworms, so if you see something that look like earthworms, they are harmless.
  10. The store doesn't have a phone number. But you can ask @Robert what he has in stock in this thread:

    Vorticella

I know other people have had different experiences, but Vorticella have never killed any of my shrimp. If that is a common occurrence, it sure isn't for me.
  12. An even better place (if you end up going with a linear piston pump) to purchase them is from our generous host: https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/air-pumps/products/linear-piston-air-pump

    Vorticella

If your experience is like mine, those zebra danio fry will eat the vorticella as they grow and get larger.

Yeah, Rorer then Lemmon after '78. I didn't know about Leave it to Beaver!

On a side note, I am a '714' aficionado, what with Jack Webb's badge number, Babe Ruth's homeruns, Bastille Day, 5 divided 7, the day the forum went into full operation, etc. Does the 714 in your username have any significance?

That's a good temperature for discus. I always wondered if the higher temperatures interfere with parasite reproduction. I keep mine at 85° - 86°F.

That is pretty much what mine sometimes get. In my experience they go away and don't come back. I don't know what they are, but the discus don't seem to be bothered by them. What temperature do you keep the your discus at.
  18. The Aquarium Co-Op has a nice feature on their website to help locate local fish clubs. https://www.aquariumcoop.com/apps/store-locator

A photo would help. But based on your post, I can say I do see that rarely on my discus. I don't treat it or give an medication. Eventually it goes away on its own.
  20. I would really like to see a photo of this fish.
  21. I use the same salt @Streetwise uses. I don't think salt matters much for hatch rate (but I couldn't prove it). The reason I use I Instant Ocean Reef Crystals is because the hatching water goes into my aquariums along the baby brine shrimp, so I wanted a salt that contained more than just NaCl.
  22. I have a creek in my yard that I use as source of rocks and substrate. I don't ever sanitize wood or rocks before I put that sort of hardscape in my aquariums. Unlike @Brandy 17 year old, I cannot imagine buying hardscape. I not sure what I would be trying to kill if I were to sanitize the hardscape materials anyway. Here is my wife sifting gravel for the 1930s aquarium: I rinsed the resulting gravel in cold water to remove silt and here is what it looked like:
  23. I have ordered them from Eastern Aquatics for the last 15 years and have been very happy with the quality of the worms. My LFS sells them also, but not in the volume I need. As @Fish Folk mentioned, speed of delivery is the key so mine are always shipped UPS Next Day.
