Oh wow...thats awesome to get a vets diagnoisis. I don't know of goldfish breaders near me, in Washinton. The ranchu I have(Mordie) has been fine for at least a year now, but has always been kinda weird. When I fed the other goldfish, he would swim the other way, looking for food to come to him. I figured he was just a dork. I am still going to try the merycin. Thanks so much for the update.!

Hi Kat I really enjoyed this thread,. I also have a sick/weird blac,k ranchu, which I have never had before. He, or she, is having the same symptons, so I have him in a hopital tank, and on leval 3 salt treatment. Its day 5 so will do a water change. But he is floating at the top, and barley beathing. Did you add salt back, after water change? I also have not been feeding him, cuz I read to fast the fish if you suspect swim bladder. So, how is yours doing now? I really like your detailed posts...can you update? thanks

I know I am late to this topic, but I have been wondering if anyone has these fish, and is breeding them, other than Greg Sage, and a few on utube? I have asked Cory in live streams about this, cuz he is local to me, but haven't heard an answer. I was able to get a few here locally, and they were so unique, and rare, I have been researching, and its so interesting. So I have one male and 4 females, and about now have at least 2, and maybe 3 babies! I got to watch one being born last nite, and it was so exciting! Would love to hear anyone with experience, to share info. Thanks, diane -

Very nice list! Love all the oddball fish you had there on saturday, too. Actually, love all your fish, they are always so healthy, and happy. And, thanks again for all your help, Robert. The bolivian rams are doing good, and your so right...more is better. The first ram I got(Butch) colored up instantly, when I brought the 3rd one home. Bright red and white strips on the fins even! Awesome fishes! -

We have 2 cargo containers, instead of a garage...I was hoping they would have graffetti painted on them because it'd look cool, but didn't..Actually, we thought they were leaking, but it was major condensation. So, dehumidifiers are a must. Thanks for all the updates!- 351 replies

Nice! would love to see these...next time I get a day to travel there -
Thanks so much, for all the responses! Its reassuring to know that they shouldn't choke on gravel. I ended up with kinda course sand, but haven't put fish in yet. I still haven't gotten my pics from my phone, to this laptop, but will keep trying.

Thanks so much Brandy, for your info. Things are doing better now, and all fish have been surviving well. Yes, I am in north WA. up by the border, but our water is wa different than seattle, I think. High PH, outa the tap, and 7.8 in all tanks.
-
Thanks so much for the response guys...and I should have included the parameters in my questions. This is a 20 gallon high, community tank, been established for a year. Ph is 7.8, Amonia and nitrites are 0, nitrates have been creeping up for a couple months, to between 40-80, sometimes higher. I have been doing 20-30% water changes, every 2 days, but nitrates never go below 40. I have one hob, and 2 small sponge filters. There is 10 cardinal tetras, 5 black neon tetras, 5 corys, and one female betta. Added cardinals, without qt., in May. I did run the maracyn for 5 days, and did the 50% water change yesterday. Everybody looks fine now. Could the nitrates be high, because of too many fish? I thought, since they were all small, and amonia and nitrites remained 0, that it would be ok.Oh, and it is heavy planted, but I haven't been using easy green, due to high nitrates, and the plants are not doing that great. I put some in yesterday, to see if the plants were doing better, then maybe it would help the nitrates. This is probably more info than you needed, but I would love your thoughts on this. Thanks.

Really nice photos!

well, he kinda flew across the tank at first, like he really wasn't happy at all. Maybe he did just wanna suck on it, but it freaked me out. I didn't know they did that! They are so funny, how they have there mouths open all the time. What do you recommend for a safe substrate? And thanks for your response!
-
Hi there! I am upgrading my 3 goldfish to a 40 gallon breeder (petco sale), and would like to know, what is the best substrate to use. I have 2 fancy fantails, and one feeder goldfish. They currently are in a 20 gallon long, and are about 2 1/2 inches. I have small-ish pebbles, with eco-complete underneath, so I could put plants, One of the fantails was able to get a rock, from the eco-complete, stuck in his mouth. When I picked him up, he got scared, and spit it out! I really don't want to worry about doing the hymlic on him, so I was hoping a goldfish member could let me know what they use for substrate. Or, is no substrate the best?I am new to keeping goldfish, so I appreciate any advice. Thanks so much!
