That's what I would do as long as I had the power outlets available for it. I don't know what fish you keep but I'd keep an eye on the flow from two filters and adjust accordingly, but it's not something I would worry excessively about. For example if you have a betta I'd turn the flow down because they're notoriously poor swimmers but I wouldn't worry about the increased flow for a whole lot else

Aliens are listed as wilds because they're hybrids of "wild" splenden complex species, mahachaiensis and smaragdina traits are pretty prevalent in them but I think they might have domestic splenden genes crossed in too. I know on aquabid you find them under the wild-type listing but honestly I wish they had their own category at this point because as far as I'm aware they aren't naturally occurring to any degree I know the co-op has at least one video featuring one They're nice bettas, there's nothing really different involved in keeping an Alien compared to any regular splenden. I really liked mine until my lid slipped forward and he jumped out the back 😥

It works if all you want is tannins and no leaf litter. I've only tried Twinnings rooibos but any brand that's 100% rooibos should be fine. I've only actually used once because I still have a lot of almond leaves, so I've ended up drinking more of it than using it in aquariums, but I did 3 bags divided between a 55 and a 29 gallon and that ratio seemed good to me. Edit: Rachel O'leary has a video about this on youtube, and that's where I learned about it. If you haven't seen that yet I'd recommend watching it.

I've asked one store about plants previously and they said they'd really only be willing to take Anubias and Java Fern, and even since then I don't have either in amounts I'm comfortable parting with. There are a couple other stores I haven't asked at all though about plants or fish. I'll have to remember to try Email when these fish get more size on them, it would save a lot of leg work

I know the advice has been given to see what a local fish store actually might want from a local breeder instead of just trying to dump whatever random fish you've spawned on them, but I'm wondering if anyone has success stories doing just that. So in my case I accidentally spawned more Indian Ricefish than I know what to ever do with, and I've never seen any sort of ricefish available locally (let alone the rather drab Indian Ricefish.) Now I've been enjoying these fish a lot for a purchase that was somewhat out of the blue, but I get the feeling that none of my local stores will be too keen on taking any, I'm unaware of any local clubs I could offload them at (and good luck with covid, I'm guessing) and I'd rather not try shipping them in freezing temperatures. Considering how easy it is to make more of them, I wouldn't mind doing so, but I'm not going to if nobody around my area wants any. So how would you approach this? Go in and ask if the store would be interested in trying to sell a few, then go from there? Have any of you had success doing this?

I've had crypts and swords do very well with Eco Complete, haven't tried many stem plants but the one type of rotala I had (i forgot what it was exactly) did alright with it

Hey that's not a bad idea... the lid is just for a regular 29 gallon or 20 Long. I want to give it to my dad but first I want to make sure none of his fish will be able to jump out. I doubt cut up signs would bother him, and all his fish are pretty small so that should keep them in if they ever decide to get jumpy.

I'm thinking about getting some glass cut to build a small tank, if that goes well I might get lids custom cut in the future, but for now I'd like to use what I already have As for an LFS having spares I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask but I'm not too hopeful that mine would

Hello all, I'm trying to figure out how I can use a spare glass lid that I have laying around. It's like the one in the picture I linked, but the plastic backer has long since been discarded. I'm hoping to find a way to tighten up the lid to prevent jumpers, I was hoping I could buy a new backer somewhere, but you guys are a creative bunch and if you have any ideas I would love to hear them. I think the only thing I'd rule out right away is cling wrap.

I've been using a green leaf GLA Pro regulator for a little over a year now, so far I'm not disappointed with the price tag but it'll take another couple of years for me to really know for sure if it was worth it, as of now though I see no reason to doubt that it will last even long than that. I would recommend green leaf stuff but it might not hurt to shop around

For an aquaclear I'd pretty much just use what they give you, I'd trade the carbon for more sponge though and add a pre filter Nothing against carbon really but I'd rather just save it than use it all the time

I had the same idea to try Killis but the batch of Notho Jubbi eggs I bought failed to hatch anything after two tries now I think I'm gonna try another set of eggs before I give up and figure out something else to do with that tank

I think I would pick Bettas and go overboard with Betta racks, I kind of want to do that anyway. If I can get away with saying the general gourami family of fish then even better. I haven't gotten enough of them in about a decade now and I don't think I could ever get tired of them.

Yeah, when they spawn the male will keep the eggs up in the bubbles until the fry become freeswimming You can see it as a way of him saying he likes the tank and has claimed it as his territory, and to keep up the good work

Sounds to me like your Betta likes the tank and made a bubble nest

I think it took my 55 gallon about 6 months to leech out pretty much all of the tannins, the bad thing is that I like them so I had to start buying almond leaves 🙃

With stones I fear you'll have to pay a lot per pound in order to get something that will really make an impact on something as tall as a 55 So I think I would recommend wood for big pieces, probably spider wood because a single piece can branch out pretty far through a tank I'm a fan of mopani wood because it almost always sinks immediately but that will leach a lot of tannins into the water and some people don't want their water to look like a strong tea, and big pieces worthy of a 55 will be expensive No matter what piece of wood you'd pick you can use smaller stones around it if you'd like that in your tank, I'd recommend smooth river stones or seiryu stones, or really anything that isn't a tan/brown because you have plenty of that already with that sand, and wood would be brown too I know you didn't ask about this but the cheapest upgrade I can recommend is a black background. You could get an aquarium-specific background or tape up some big pieces of construction paper or even a garbage bag. A background makes a huge difference. I'll link a picture of my tanks, my 55 has a bunch of mopani wood in it and the 29 has a couple pieces of spider wood surrounded by seiryu stone, hopefully they can help you make a decision!

I'll vouch for Green Leaf too, I'm very happy with my regulator and love that mine is modular so I could upgrade it from feeding one tank to feeding 3 without buying a whole new regulator. As for paintball systems... I played with one from a different company for a while and although I had no problems with that regulator I've stopped using it because getting paintball tanks filled was a huge pain for me. I only found one place in my city willing to do paintball tanks and it was very inconsistent and the cashiers never knew how to check out co2 refills (which got me a free refill at least once, though I would have appreciated consistency more than that) and I had to deal with this about once a month. After upgrading to a 5lbs tank and being able actually use the gas supplier in my city for refills now I can't say I'd ever go back to my paintball setup, although it did technically work fine. Your mileage may vary 🤷‍♂️ I haven't tried one of the kits like from fluval but they would probably be very controllable and consistent but they're tiny, you're going to be constantly buying refills and that money will add up fast, if you want to try one as an introduction to co2 though I'd say go for it, but be aware of what you're getting yourself into with whatever option you pick.
