  1. Well, several years ago they gave up trying to keep the fountains at the west end of the 520 bridge running, due to elodea, so bet if you rented a canoe at UW and paddled around that area you might find some.
  2. Please note the info about invasive a few paragraphs down, for pond keepers in Washington: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elodea
  3. This forum has taught me patience and to trust my eyes and numbers and let go of thinking I’m doing it wrong because I don’t do weekly water changes like I read a bajillion times I should.
  4. Regarding the pH - my green neon tetras are thriving in 7.4 - 7.6. Is your tank planted?
  5. There is a lot of power in telling your story, especially to an understanding and receptive group like this forum. Doing so reduces the magnitude of the darkness and lets you see how you can bring a little light back in. ❤️
  6. @CorySo grateful for your fast response and for the info. I bought two moss balls on Feb.16 so I don’t know if that puts me in the refund category, but if it does I would like to opt OUT of a refund; for me that would feel like taking advantage of a situation that is totally not your fault. I have examined mine and don’t see any but I am going to destroy them out of an abundance of caution. We are sailors in the San Juan’s and have an appreciation for how fragile any ecosystem is. We have seen lots of boater education about these little buggers.
  7. @DanielSo beautiful and dreamy and peaceful! Thanks for sharing! I loved the music!
  8. @Cory I’m guessing you have heard this already, but just in case: https://komonews.com/news/local/invasive-zebra-mussels-found-in-marimo-moss-balls This is not good news.😔
  9. Gary Larson was brilliant!
  10. I had one custom cut, with hinges and a little tab on front and back to make lifting it easier, by a company near me. The first one was acrylic because I didn’t know any better and it warped. The second one is polycarbonate and it’s great! One a tiny bit of warping at the corners, cleans easily. The company was fantastic to work with. I didn’t want a glass one because of the cat.
  11. @HobbitNice! What is the block you are feeding! Also, tell me about the feeding plate, and do you have other critters with the amanos?
  12. Oh! How did I miss that? They are now in my cart! Thanks!
  13. To minimize visual impact, I would like to secure airline tubing and power cord for a heater to a corner of my tank. Would the super glue that is used for securing plants to hardscape work?
  14. You can google ‘floating moss ball’ to find places that sell them.
  15. Thanks, @MAC I have been lucky that this tank, started in November, has been remarkably stable. I fell down the rabbit hole of TMI and the dark side of so much info being so easily available. I so appreciate this forum as a collective Voice of Reason. 😉
  16. I have a 20g planted tank with tetras, rasboras, honey gourami, a hillstream loach and cherry and Amano shrimp. The pH is consistently 7.4-7.6. Should I lower it? Would cattapa leaves be a good way to do that?
  17. @BlackLabelCarlingThanks! I guess, then, that my rasboras are shoaling and my green neon tetras are both. 😉
  18. Hello, all! What does a failed molt look like? And how often should I be finding exoskeletons so I know there aren’t any problems? Also, what is the difference between schooling and shoaling?
