  1. Ah. That makes sense. Thanks @AdamTill
  2. Does anyone know why it is recommended to not feed for one week after dosing?
  3. 1) If my water quality numbers are good and rarely vary much, the water is clear and the fish and inverts appear happy, how often should I do water changes? 2) I dosed the tank Sunday with the meds trio because one of the tetras appeared to have a bacterial infection and I don’t have a qt tank. (I will be getting one shortly). The directions in the Coop article say don’t feed the fish for a week - does that include plants, too? I use Easy Green. 3) If I find I need to add Wonder Shell or calcium in the substrate or HOB, which is best? I thank you in advance for your help. This forum gives me the confidence that I can keep my little critters heathy!
  4. Should I be worried? He is acting normally. Tank has two sunset honey gouramis, one reticulated hillstream, six lamb chop rasboras, bunch of pond snails, ten cherry shrimp, three amanos. The tank is planted, and I include a pic to show generally the environment. Parameters: temp 78.4, ph 7.4, NH3 and NO2 0, NO3 around 5.
  5. These are some of my snails rehearsing for the upcoming National Cheer Squad Championships - this is their 6-man pyramid.
  6. Yes! Collectively they are “The Kids”, as in “Hi, kids!”. Individually my pair of sunset honey Gouramis are Cedric and Emma, my reticulated hillstream loach is Nigel, my original pond snail is Fred, the six lamb chop rasboras are The Flock (get it?), the ten green neon tetras are Los Chiquitos because I’m bilingual and they are from Colombia 🇨🇴. Yesterday I got four cherry and four Amano Shrimp; I don’t know their names yet.
  7. @Jollypop4321That looks so awesome! Wow! Can you tell me about the mollies - why are they not pc?
  8. Here’s a video of my planted community tank after one month. The photo is when first set up.
  9. Thanks, all, for the thoughtful comments. They confirm what I was already thinking from all the research I’ve been doing. I think I will remove the remaining bio rings at the next water change and replace them with one more layer of coarse sponge; I should still have room for the polish sponge on top. My tank continues to have good numbers and healthy fish and plants, which I attribute largely to the great articles, blogs and vids from the Coop as well as advice here on the Forum and when I go on to the store. 🤗
  10. @Dandy PearlThanks! I kept the bio rings, and I added some Fitz 7. I also have a sponge on the filter intake. I did a check this morning and all numbers were great but I will check daily for a few more times. And thanks for the reminder about tank water for cleaning the media. 👍🏼
  11. @FlyingFishKeeperAh, yes. I just added some Fritz 7 and I will keep a close eye on it. Thanks!
  12. Today I swapped out the cartridge thingys that came in my HOB for stacks of coarse filter media. I did keep the bio rings, but less than before to make room for a fine polish filter on top. Do I need the bio rings? As always, thanks for the advice. This place is a treasure!
  13. @AleshaLol! I’m always happy to bring a little humor to the table! I was sitting in front of the tank, soaking up some peace, and the order of my thoughts on this was “where did all the snails come from”, “what the hell happened to my Armanos”, “the Stargate looks kinda cool”. It made me crack up, and I figured this forum was likely to be full of like-minded folks. 😉
  14. Yes, and my DHD is malfunctioning so I can’t figure out where they went to go get them. So frustrating!
  15. Just curious - has anyone else had a problem with snails coming in through their Stargate ornament, and Amano shrimp leaving through same?
  16. Thanks, @James Black; they are pretty special little critters.

  19. What are your recommendations of good references on aquarium fish anatomy, diseases and behavior? Thanks!
