  1. Heres what my light settings look like. The aquarium is a 10 gallon (so about the same depth as a 20 long) We also have a thread you should check out. Its a thread full of other forum members light settings, perhaps you can copy someone of a simillar setup. I will say that your light looks to be too high for your size of tank, which is most likely why your dealing with this algae. My settings are what bentley pascoe reccemend in his video, but just tuned down a bunch for a 10 gallon.
  2. Crypts grow big roots. So when you pull it up just beware that you will be making some mess. If I were you I would take this an oppurtunity to do some matnience. Do a big waterchange, move the crypt, scrub the glass, etc. When I moved my crypt I pulled it up, then moved it to where I wanted it. After I drained the tank down 50% and refilled it.
  3. I really liked the book written by Diana Walstad. I would totally reccemend that book to anyone! Its totally changed the way I look about fish keeping. I know pleanty of other forum members have read that book and gave excellent reviews.
  4. I have a LFS that keeps all there bettas in plastic cups, just like the big chain stores. I try not to shop their as their quality and price of livestock isn't the best. However I have another LFS that keeps their bettas in actual aquariums with all the other fish. All though the downside to this is that they dont have as big as a selection for bettas. But their quality for bettas is way better then most stores.
  5. Looks like a peacock cichlid. Its a lake malawi african cichlid. Very beutifal fish.
  6. I have been quite absent on the forum, as well as not very present with my aquariums. I haven't sat down and really enjoyed them. Often forget to feed, etc. The motivation just hasn't been there lately. I feel like this is because of my work load. I have been working almost every day, and on top of that have a bunch of school papers due. However today I don't work, and I told my self to take a day off and enjoy the fish. Do some waterchanges, and really get my hands wet. I wanna move Penny to the community tank soon, and change up the stocking in the 10 gallon. I want platys (I think...), and then perhaps in the future upgrade it to a 20 long. The rummynose are able to move back, but I will wait till penny is ready to move them. Once everyone moved, its time for shrimp!!! I have been really wanting some pumpkin shrimp for that shrimp bowl soon. I honestly miss my fish, and I wanna get excited about this hobby again. Perhaps I will head to the LFS soon. Its hard to find hugo in his bowl from afar due to the plants and the tannins. But I pulled out my phone and I see him race through the plants from the back of the bowl up to the front. It was a challenge because he decided he wanted to find a way above the floating hornwort, and not below. When he eats his food sometimes half his body will be out of the water due to the hornwort, he has 0 patience. Often I will move the pellets to wear he can grab them easily, but he doesn't want to wait the 2 seconds it takes to do so. Weird story about my angelfish. A few weeks I spotted some ick on him. I didnt have a spare tank for him, and all I had was leftover ich medicine from my last treatment, I also adjusted the heat. I didnt do much, and within days it dissapeared. none of the other fish appeared to have ick either.
  7. I always wear my murphy hat when I go to a fish related event (like a visit to the LFS, club meeting, etc.) One time I wore it out at public and a guy commented on the hat, figured he must have been a fellow nerm.
  8. I have a 10 gallon aquarium that is currently being used to house my guppy trio, as well as to serve as a grow out tank for my small angelfish named penny. Within the next few weeks I plan to move Penny into the community tank, as well as the rummynose tetra that are growing out in Hugos tank, Once all these moves have been completed I want to make a fish order. Consisting of some pumpkin shrimp for the shrimp bowl, and my next breeding project fish. However I cant seem to decide what I should breed next. Keep in mind all these options should be fine for a 10 gallon aquarium. I was thinking one of the following... Platys - I love platys, but have never kept any Pair of apistogramma or kribensis Orange Venezualin Corydora - there are some really pretty ones on aquahuna right now. open to any other suggestions I am fairly new to breeding, so I would like a easy to breed fish.
  9. I have been in a similar boat then you. I found great success with any bulb plants (aponogeton madagascar lace plant, crinum). Just place in some root tabs and they will take off.
  10. agree with @Hobbit, corydoras in my experience are usually a shy fish. If there other more outgoing fish (like aurora was) they'll figure that because their not hiding, we shou5ldnt either. Generally fish who serve this purpose (to be active so that the shy fish are more active as well) are called dither fish. I would suggest perhaps some guppies, or another betta as @Hobbit suggested.
  11. @Ethan L.Did you get him from keepfishkeeping.com? I thought I remembered seeing a similar one just like him on there.
  12. The Heart Face😍 reaction would be used for something like that. I do however love the scroll to the top button idea. I think that would be very helpful!
  13. It defentley looks like its the windows fault. Perhpas try to add a curtain, or with black paper you can block the sides of the aquarium that are getting the most sunlight. I found that when battling green water the best way to fix was to block out all light till the green water was gone. I simply turned the aquarium light off, and covered the aquarium with a towel. Leaving 0 light in the aquarium. After 5 days nearly all green water was gone. And by the 7th day the towel was taking off. If you dont solve your sunlight issue you will see green water again.
  14. I've had a simillar problem with my frogbit. I simply dosed more fertilizer and it bounced back overtime. All though @Tihshho could be right, your pleco could be taking a snack. I know my mystery snail loves floating plants, and especially loves frogbit:
  15. Porcupine puffers are some of my favorite puffers! I saw one at my LFS, at that moment I started thinking "where can I put a big saltwater tank for this guy". It was hard to resist. I told my self the next big FOWLR tank that I own will house a porcupine puffer, or a dogface puffer.
  16. Yes I beleive this is now the usual time for livestreams. Tuesdays at 7pm CT. Based on the community post cory posted for members it appears it will be replacing the regular sunday stream.
  17. Least Killifish is a fish that I've been wanting to try out for myself. They are a livebearer, and only get to about 0.5 - 1 inch. Defentley a very cool fish. Other killifish species may work great as well such as clown killifish. However I'm not sure how these two species do in soft water, you'll have to look into that.
  18. I saw that on the community page this morning! I beleive this documentary was available many months ago but you had to pay to watch it. Now its free and I cant wait to start watching. With the livestream this evening, and this documentary I'm gonna have a busy day!
  19. One of the downsides to being so active on this forum is never ending MTS🤣
  20. I dont suspect the filter to have been the cause. I'm agreeing with @Tihshho that it was most likely the parents that ate the fry. Some breeders like seperating the aduldts and fry so that this doesn't happened. Usually however with experiance the parents will learn not to eat their fry.
  21. Porcupine Puffers are some of the cutets fish. I beleive@Streetwise owned one a while back.
  22. Welcome to the forum! 7 Gallons is a tricky number to dose with but heres what I would do: 1) Treat with a full dose or 3/4 of a dose. If your doing half a dose your risking the medications to not be strong enough to do anything productive. 2) Your loaches should be just fine for the 9 days. I just recently left my fish for 10 days with no food, I came back and they were perfectly fine. 3) Remove any carbon. I'm not sure why this is but most medications tell you to do this. I beleive the carbon removes the medications from the water, not sure though.
  23. I thought I would share some update photos. The 10 rummy nose tetra that I got earlier this week were starting to dissapear. I suspect the angelfish was taking a snack on them because there not fully grown. So I put them in Hugos tank for them to grow out. Hugo didn't like the company and started chasing them. So I moved Hugo into the shrimp bowl until I can move the rummy nose back into the community tank. I'll have to wait on my shrimp order. Hugos loving life in the bowl though. I dont think he's ever been this happy since his finrot treatment😪. The water is a little chilli because it doesn't have a heater since it was setup for shrimp. It sits at a solid 72F, temporarily I beleive this to be fine.
