Raising Mystery Snails - First Time!
Chick-In-Of-TheSea replied to Katherine's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
I have heard that happen to other people with the clutches on the glass. I don’t know why. Maybe just the adhesive isn’t strong enough or the biofilm on the glass plays a factor. And don’t worry. More clutches to come! 😉 -
Did you ever see the guy that pets sharks and gets them to stop swimming and stuff? Idk if he’s called the shark whisperer or what. But he understands the electrical field they navigate by or sense with or whatnot. (?) He gets them to be really docile just by knowing how to manipulate that field.

Nah you’re good. 🙂 But that’s why I joke. Also I like to read about the worm situation. Kinda like a morbid curiousity- something is gross and yet, I can’t look away? 😅

😳 I’m sorry for picking on you @nabokovfan87. The worms freak me out, especially when you’re describing a lot of worms, and my “coping mechanism” is to joke about it. It’s like laughing when someone embarrasses you. And don’t forget I have worms too! I just choose to look the other way. I do make sure they don’t bother the critters though. Also if it makes you feel any better, in the summer sometimes I get maggots in the garbage bin. The big rolling one the our county provides. Omg. They won’t die with sprays or anything. And also.. eggs that can’t be seen.. So I end up having to boil a kettle like 5 times, and each time dump the boiling water down the sides of the can. Then I have to overturn the can and a big pile of dead maggots slides out. ☠️ Your worm situation triggers the maggot PTSD.

You know what is super rewarding for me? Watching a tank full of 34 baby snails eating green beans. And they often jump off the glass and stick the landing right on the green bean when I put it in the tank. 😍- 43 replies

So true @nabokovfan87. This should never be a chore. Sure, there’s maintenance, but to be able to sit and watch (get lost in that underwater world) is the ultimate payoff.- 43 replies

Mystery snail eggs & inverts journal
Chick-In-Of-TheSea replied to Chick-In-Of-TheSea's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
Remember the little oddball snail? Still doing well. Not growing much, but does join the gang at the dinner table from time to time. And here’s a photo of York and Dodger having dinner.- 1,895 replies

Monitoring Fish Health in a Pond?

That is such a great question. Maybe @Fish Folk or @Ken Burke can help? They have tubs and would have a similar predicament. -

Stuff we don't talk about...
Chick-In-Of-TheSea replied to Chick-In-Of-TheSea's topic in General Discussion
I've been using the 7th generation free & clear dish soap. No fragrance or colors or anything so less harm to the fishies. That's a good idea. Mine doesn't reach the bottom of the tank, but I don't siphon every time. Sometimes I just drop a pond pump in. I do have a higher nitrate level (40-ish) today (pre-water change) and I wonder if that could be a factor.- 43 replies

Same. I always do the "surgeon's arm scrub" before & after. Doesn't prevent irritation, but I do it anyway for good practice.- 43 replies

Skin irritation after working in the tank? Happens to anybody else? Some random interwebs threads say it's the nitrates. ? Also, I hate gloves. 🤣

Not Freshwater, But Fascinating
Chick-In-Of-TheSea replied to PineSong's topic in General Discussion
The molting one blew my mind! That was awesome! Leon's little acoustic guitar theme song gets stuck in my head. I love the soundtrack on the videos, and the humorous, warmhearted commentary by Brady. -
Has anyone been watching the Leon the Lobster videos on YouTube? I love them! It is such a heartwarming tale. There are a series of videos about Leon. He was in a tank at the grocery store, and his claws were taped shut. A man adopts him and sets up a saltwater tank for him and does little exercises with Leon so he can regain use of his claws. He documents the lobster's behavior and finds that the lobster has a cute little personality.

Thanks. Looks like @nabokovfan87 won design. Re-Written Directions seems to be still in progress (for voting or closure). I like your infusoria directions! I tried & failed at it (with a different method). I think we spoke about it in the past. I didn't swirl or split!

My zebra nerite is not interested in anything but algae. I placed her on zucchini TWICE, and both times she left. However, once, and only once, I did catch her eating zucchini. That was the only time she has in the 4 months I've had her.
