Right, and then what if they die? You'd never know, then your water would be contaminated and you wouldn't be able to figure out why.- 1,895 replies

I wish I had known about the RR back when I bought my moss. That would have prevented this whole thing. Everything else had a salt dip, but for moss you can't because salt should not be applied to roots. I'm going to go ahead and link to the RR thread here, in case there is anyone who is following along in the journal here and feels lost. 🙂 I was onto some videos about Malaysian Trumpet snails the other day, and there are some people that are strong advocates for them, they keep the sand clean, you don't even see them after the lights come on, etc. Then you look in the comments and there are the horror stories, how they multiply, you can't get rid of them, they get into filters, etc. I think @Hobbit had quite the experience with them, clogging her powerhead, etc.- 1,895 replies

Makes sense. Thank you. 👍 What I could do is report my results of the seltzer on limpets and post in the RR thread "for the sake of science".- 1,895 replies

Is there regulation about putting limpets into a lake? I know you cannot add fish, snails, loaches, etc but this is practically a microorganism and there would be things to eat it in a lake. This is a touchy subject, I am certain.- 1,895 replies

To cull would be a big job. I'd have to selter basically everything. They are all over the driftwood and pots - that's gonna be a project in itself. Help lol- 1,895 replies

Same. I'm done with 5 gallon buckets. 2-gallon buckets are available at Dollar Tree for $1.25/ea and they have a spout and never "mis-pour". EDIT!! Dollar Tree buckets break! I bought 2, and they both broke in just a few months! If you need a smaller bucket go to Ace Hardware! They have a variety of sizes. -
Sharing is caring.

Yours isn't green but the procedure is probably similar.

Recently Dodger was added. I don't know Dodger's gender, and I haven't seen them mate. I'm not sure if York is still laying held eggs, but I assume she is, since she was alone in the tank for clutches 1-10? I don't plan to hatch more. At least not yet. I'm having trouble finding them homes. The nearest aquarium club is 2 hours, the LFS doesn't take good care of snails (puts them in with turtles; the turtles are eating them). The big box store would take them as a "donation" but we all know the deal with big box stores. I want to do my best to ensure they have a nice future.- 1,895 replies

Mystery snail eggs & inverts journal
Chick-In-Of-TheSea replied to Chick-In-Of-TheSea's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
I did do a small water change on the snail tank. I probably didn't need to. I only had a .1 ammonia reading, but I am used to going through the motions, and I wanted to vacuum their little dish. I thought it would be a good time to cull some of the limpets, as many of them are very visible when the water level drops. It takes them time to get back down into the drink. Anyway, two quick swipes of a test kit card and I had about 30 limpets. I know I can drop them into seltzer water, and that would be the end of it. So... well... I put them all back into the tank. Because I know they're snails! I couldn't do it! Lord, help me. At 3:50 in this video is a really good shot of limpets. As you can see, their little mouths are like nerites'. Seeing them close up like this makes me appreciate them. I read something online though. It said if you get a nerite it can outcompete limpets for food. This is an option? Good excuse to get another nerite. Or would that be cruel? A slower limpet death of starvation? Sigh. I'm so conflicted. I do spend some time over on Father Fish's YouTube channels also, and he's always encouraging everybody to embrace the little creatures, embrace the microorganisms, you don't want a sterile tank, everything has a purpose. The only thing that really bothers me is they are obstructing view all the time, and a week or so ago I cleaned the glass to get rid of the algae they were eating (the mystery snails travel on the glass but don't really "clean" it), and so all the limpets moved onto the plants, decorations, driftwood, and (most annoyingly) snail shells. So usually 75% of the mysteries have hitchhikers. So as my ad is about to hit the little town paper and people come over for snail adoptions, 1) is it going to be off-putting to see a tank full of limpets (would that concern them or prevent a snail sale?) or 2) I have to pick up and inspect every snail in the tank to remove limpets prior to the sale. 😭- 1,895 replies

Trough on the HOB is dry, so the media rearrangement is successful. Also no noticeable detritus. This is great. I didn't have to buy any new media either. Many thanks @nabokovfan87 @Minanora @Brandon p- 1,525 replies

For the first time in awhile I did not have to do a water change on the snail tank because the newly added plants are keeping parameters in check. Hooray! And I only added them a day ago! Up to this point I have been changing 20% water twice a day.- 1,895 replies

Yay!!! This is awesome! I don’t think you’ll have a problem @TeeJay. Shrimp have such a small bioload. (Now you have some critters that will actually appreciate the banquet food blocks.)

Did you plant it or float it? I’m not in any of those areas. Is it because it is a fast grower? I am floating it. Is that the right thing to do? The leaf melted off but I planted the little bulb with the root. We’ll see what it does, if anything. It’s near a root tab.

I found it. It was still in the breeder box. The leaf was totally melted and had fallen off the root. Here is the root with the little bulb. I don’t have much hope for it, but I planted it by a root tab. -

I got a bonus lily with some other plants I bought. I temporarily put it in a breeder box with some Java fern clippings until I could decide where to plant it. Now I can’t find it!
