Nice job with the terra cotta pots👍 Wish o had the patience to do my plants like that when I first get them, I have to slam them in where I want them ASAP 😬

and BTW that snail is awesome 🐌

I redecorate often 😁 I also don’t actually plant anything in the gravel so it’s easy. Most if my tanks are bare bottom.  Only 2 of 7 have any gravel left and it’s less than an inch. More like barely covers the bottom.  The corys like it so I leave it.

Just been hanging out with my fish lately. My one snail is still in poor condition the others apparently were not so bad they were just empathy cuddling with their sister.
interesting thing with pleco babies. Two of the one ps that we’re pure white would eat and eat and eat repashy but bellies never got full? I can see the food in the others bellies but not these even after I watched them eat. Those two passed away.  I believe something was not formed right in them as the looked different from the start including tummy shape.
I don’t know what happened to Dad but he broke his angel wing tip on his other side. The first he broke a few months ago clean off. This one was slightly attached. I was worried but it severed and is healing just fine. B07E96F2-7134-475F-BB4E-E4497F576183.jpeg.1465da0a3d4d3f852fd1c43e16ade9ba.jpegBabies are getting HUGE.

was feeding tanks today and my big boy Caramel somehow got on the lid. He wouldn’t let go so I had to wait for him to crawl on my hand. He has done this many times and always crawls onto my hand. Silly snail. 07E5750B-8E6E-48EA-95EF-C6FBB34F381B.jpeg.001a0a4df3d4abca15dace6ffa351998.jpegD217F78E-E77D-41D5-837E-BD53CED7BCA0.jpeg.3cf9eb9de25d1c5c32eb1c66b1221c23.jpeg5AED09E9-2DB0-4981-925E-129744F98460.jpeg.cd76c3085c78198937135f62e756ed92.jpeg

plants are doing good so far. Just a few dropped leaves but no melt…yet. Scooter is getting bold. Comes right to the front to feed. Runs from my giant pink phone though so no picture. Everyone else is doing good. Guppy boys may go to lfs this week. They are getting rowdy.

So for two weeks I have been using the siesta method @Torrey talked about only modified to my schedule a bit.  Lights on 7am until noon. Then back on from 5-8pm. In the words of the Monkeys IM A BELIEVER YA YA YA YA!  Plant grow well for me and I never have algae issues….I might but everything in all my tanks eat it so I never see it 🤣. My plants are doing EVEN BETTER!
my ludwiga is getting redder and sending out side shoots after just two weeks (guppy photo bomb makes side shoot hard to see)DA0C8D35-24B5-47AC-B30E-3682FFE4D4D6.jpeg.ab2b06359af5439d57e795e170f3134f.jpeg8122D62D-8A08-4F05-891F-3F96ED0ED647.jpeg.5f40642467869ea2e6108f9134a5ba31.jpeg

I have noticed more growth on most plants this was just the most noticeable.  Bonus my fish seem happier not being under the spotlight for extended hours at a time. My male guppy grow out usually are picking at each other fiercely by lights out. Now they are not. 2nd bonus I’m happier. Over the winter with shorter days and less room light I miss watching my fish in the evening. Now lights are out during my hubby time before he works when I’m not in the fish room and on when I am 😁 3rd bonus I have been flipping my lights up to shine on my pothos not the tanks and my pothos are taking off like mad sending tons of new roots and leaves  46B24DD9-1875-4639-96F2-4778DC971B5C.jpeg.0827929c665ea3adcedb664a8456a5a9.jpeg151FE1B3-AA92-40DF-889C-95D445E044DB.jpeg.d048544243ae18afb3de8fc6f1727363.jpegB04D540E-99F6-4375-B943-6F25361CE853.jpeg.b7b3c7aca0904b54e9f7b7039e24b858.jpeg2DCB04EF-8DEC-4562-A4B7-0C9D7F0FBD73.jpeg.9c0bab16c2680d32338d48d37d7d1fed.jpeg

4th bonus my nitrates are being obliterated by the extra plant and pothos growth. The proof is in the aquarium pudding 🤣

babies are getting huge!179639A1-D4D0-44D4-BE57-8EAE30F27FB2.jpeg.1ef1575bfb46524bbbd866353a450859.jpeg068FB0F9-B6CC-402E-9299-A71BC80AD7EE.jpeg.6c2b92081d70d5385a5abe730f511de1.jpeg1E1EC737-2C63-47A8-B298-DB6307B404AB.jpeg.6aec2030a1c0fa2959189891aef0bb48.jpeg2A3E3B76-D240-40D9-A6B6-F57332C4E100.jpeg.52633e9513b23b19c01529d1baf69e82.jpeg4C461B14-F862-4DEE-88B6-5623C8ACBFC3.jpeg.3edb65615be5ed6590bed77cc93f354d.jpeg

The funny tank is back 😳. So it sat empty for a day when I set up the 20l and moved the boys to the 10.  Yup a day. I had plants I was growing out so put them in it with a hydroponic grow light. Added some river rocks to grow algae for baby pleco and nemo nerite the next day. The following day thought well might as well add a cycled nano sponge and a pinch of food for the bacteria.  Never know I might need it for something…..do you see where this is going yet 🤣. Several days later I saw tons of ostacods and tiny tiny detritus worms. Thought wow Scooter the cpd fry I rescued would have loved that. Promptly remembered the CPD spawning over the one terra cotta pot earlier that morning. Grabbed terra cotta pot figured most eggs had been eaten but 1 or 2 may have fallen in the gravel.  Today I see 2 free swimmers. I’m using sera micron and the microfauna as food. Early free swim stage mortality is higher with these guys I found when I used to breed them so we will see. One looks robust see pic. One looks weak but may just be starting free swim. 2FAB4539-84E0-4358-8BE6-A3A82626DD36.jpeg.fae7b8b89e060728e9e35a5d512ceebb.jpegF60D12EE-7F86-4AF3-9473-21EC583AA18A.jpeg.cf81fa885bcb21a8f585372c115ab625.jpeg
i used to trade them for dragon food because they were readily available but my lfs has not been able to get them from their supplier lately so depending how the sera micron does with it not being a long seasoned tank I may start breeding them again.
moved two baby pleco to sorority grow out. Man they are tough to catch. EC63C197-2002-4284-8385-2B0A168264AF.jpeg.c4c5155ec6372e2a5d632348067bb1d5.jpeg34D7C3E3-C0BC-4CA5-944E-30BA563B0EFF.jpeg.bea39ee0716d2922bcfb7fdb1fddf022.jpeg

My two new COD fry are doing good. The second one has perked up.  13F3F005-6DEF-465D-94D6-DF36D977DF9F.jpeg.e34ddd631cf71729a4233fb6ecd60611.jpeg

while I was trying to see these tiny buggers I noticed my hornwort in that bare bottom tank with my dragons light stand holder and a very old worn out led plant light from my hydroponics garden was PEARLING! 🎉at 5:35 in the evening (I noted the time this is monumental to me 🥰) My plants never pearl. The siesta is the difference. The new plants I added last week started a bit of melt…and growing new leaves at thhe same time another first for me 😍41D70408-6E1D-4C2A-812E-EAA5E505A151.jpeg.a3bff8cb226d30acb86cb43d2d0b048a.jpegEA7FC9D8-A3CA-4047-864C-3643CC4B62FE.jpeg.abb16629a338959cc91c07df8858b39f.jpeg5EC2E6D8-4FCC-47C2-B995-15EDB9A67665.jpeg.75eba7ea69fa33c8831c559591bc77c7.jpeg

And this is what I was able to relax and enjoy at 7 pm with it being dark out last night sitting in my main fish room. Being able to do this every night definitely enhances my wellbeing and mental health 🥰BA0EF738-F708-482D-802E-3783A26E305A.jpeg.102d83df55aa6e83293f8bb60f55dbb3.jpeg5741217F-B6D4-40F4-A37B-7A67362D1F6E.jpeg.9ca722bc1b3121901067830963e0003e.jpegC4A22551-2F4D-4F3E-B98C-39EC750718DE.jpeg.3aacbbfa8826767eb041c3bf13838dd4.jpeg5C593445-E62A-4860-90FE-A1379D9C60DB.jpeg.ca321389eb608fdcdd633767539b03f2.jpeg

this morning…. After 20 minutes of pleco baby struggling with nonforward or backward progress out of coarse sponge intake(I unplugged the filter as soon as I seen this). I had to try and get it out. I cut away most of the filter. I knew if I pulled it’s fins would break. I finally got him out. He indeed had broken his left pectoral off at the body. His right is bent. He is too small for me to tell if it’s broke but it does not appear so. I put him in the boy guppy grow out 10g so I could monitor him and so he had no competition for food other than 2 juvenile mystery snails.  I took boys to the lfs a week early to ensure they didn’t pick at him. He found his food dish and was all over the tank just maneuvers oddly. If he survives his ordeal his forever home will be with me so I know he is well cared for due to his new disability.

LFS wants more shrimp  I shared my new CPD fry story they said they would pay for them if I hatched more  so I guess I’m going to use the funny tank and make a more concerted effort to start breeding them again  I used to trade them for live dragon food but cash works 🤣

water sprite refuses to grow on stems for me. It breaks apart and makes half an attempt to float. I don’t want it to float. Last week I glued it to 2 terra cotta pots figuring if it died it wasn’t a loss. Silly stuff is growing like crazy glued to a pot after years of me struggling with it 🤣3134548A-5A5F-4DB7-AF7E-5A88D1756186.jpeg.901b5b29d182f570c19dc6dfd2adfa41.jpegC512D434-C84F-4C16-94B1-DC9445379367.jpeg.b6da76eb3852b9a2fcc18d8700eaecd4.jpeg

Mine is going nuts in 4 tanks.

It grew so much in the T4 it's now growing out of the water😳

I need to grab pictures tomorrow, and start another journal.

Hope your little guy makes a full recovery!

Every morning and evening mom and dad pleco sit in their food dishes waiting begging for new veggies. FADBFF34-C398-445C-A71D-EC564F02CD6B.jpeg.2015d846e20296988ea56ec889cc8b90.jpeg

This morning Lefty (I named the little guy from yesterday because he lost his left fin) was sitting in the food dish in his new tank. It is hysterical because he never had a food dish babies had a hard time figuring out the clear glass. I used terra cotta this time. Mom and dad won’t eat any leftover wafer or veggie from the previous night. They sit and wait for new. Little lefty was front and center waiting for new this morning 🥰

I used the siesta to untangle and trim gobs of pennywort out of all the tanks this is gob 1 of 3 in the guppy/panda tank. It’s harder than untangling Christmas lights!1E1DCBCB-1F12-4EF7-9E41-7AF9D8ECB34B.jpeg.ca301bfae027c31b1429e7985bed1de0.jpeg

I did note my fish were more at ease with me messing in all the tanks with plants during the siesta period 😁

I’m getting plant brave I ordered this but have no clue about tissue culture transition any input is welcome on tissue culture or this plantCCD82961-E61A-44F7-B37E-E0014DDEFB6C.png.2889a939f0c84ff50d1e692612c34f0f.png

Tissue culture - it will come bound in a gel medium. I usually pick pieces or the whole thing out of the container and run it under the tap slowly working the gel out.
The best success I had with them was in aquasoil or dirted tank. I’ve got some fun crypts like green gecko from culture.
Alternathera rosanervig was designed for high light and CO2 setups. I’ve tried it and AR mini It will need a lot of intense light and nutrients to get that red. I can’t say I’ve had amazing success - as the article mentions I found ar mini more forgiving- but it did root but grew leggy for me and never looked right or how it looks in pics. This article has a great review of care:

Pennywort grows faster than hornwort in my tanks. It grows faster than any plant for me. It’s tough and only melts the biggest leaves when I introduce it. I love it. It will grow like a vine but tall so no matter how deep the tank it reaches the top with light. So I start high and slowly move down. It grows roots at each node so super easy to propagate new plants.
yes dads dish is my left moms is my right but since they started mating they will share or switch. When they were babies they also shared but then competed for both dishes so I put a third in the middle 🤣 to limit aggression because I didn’t know their sex yet. It was easy to teach. I place no food anywhere else in the tank except minimal food that is missed by the cpd. But I think I actually did not teach it because Lefty did it day one with the food bowl. But the baby pleco grow out only had food in the front as well so pretty easy to move to bowl I think.
