Streetwise
I have not bought new fish in a while, and I have plants that still need to be planted, mostly some Bucephalandra from the Co-Op. I hope to get some more shrimp this year. 7

For once I was not picked last! my fish room is ready to transition, well maybe evolve is a better word. Over the last year I have successfully community bred panda cories, venezuelanus cories and plecos. And more recently I finally was able to breed my angels by pulling the eggs. I don’t know where to go next, but it probably will involve shipping fish. (He says nervously) My first Guinea pigs are @Beardedbillygoat1975 and @rockfisher, so tag your it. Oh, and here are a few pics of the angels. 7
redfish
Soo, thanks for the tag! Let’s see: I’m trying my hand at the RR process on some wild caught floating plants. I first rinsed the plants with some rainwater from soaking driftwood. then I moved the plants to a second container to further clean it and added seltzer. then I used the first container to weigh the plants down for full submergence “hopefully” and moved it to a dark place until tomorrow. I’m sure it’s not perfect but it’s a start. Drilling holes in the top container would be better and I will do that next time. I plan to add the plants to some outdoor tubs. Very basic start for now. Compared to @Travis and @MattHasMTS who I’m tagging since their cool projects helped encourage me to try a mini pond. 8

Beardedbillygoat1975
@Ken Burkelooking forward to it. Think they’ll get a 45 gallon along with @Fish Folk’s rams! Addendum: I don’t think I understood earlier when I posted. This summer was hard, abbreviated tubbing, tearing down fish room 1.0, losing half my stock to dead dwarf water lettuce after getting 7/8 tubs successfully here - I think I’ve learned resolve and determination can get you far but Mother Nature can be a cruel mistress and what will be will be. But I’m also getting ready for a bunch of new projects, new tanks, GSAS and dude I live 5 minutes drive from the Coop!! I am back to enjoying my hobby after a few dark days. PineSong
Thank you for including me, @xXInkedPhoenixX, sorry for the late reply as I had a full roster at work and we had out of town guests in for the evening. I am so blown away by everyone's tanks and the incredible variety of fish-- MountainTop's puffers that look like shoes, Guppynail's scarlet badis with Napoleon complexes, Fish Folk's natives--I love it. I also love that so many of you make me feel minimalist for having 5 tanks and a pond 🙂 A few weeks ago I brought home Kevin, a baby angel fish. He is so cute I can't stand it and I can pretend that he's not part of my response to Fry Overwhelm. He will eventually have to live in the 29 or a larger tank but for now he's in with the girl guppies and male platies and getting along nicely. Here's Kevin, looking grumpy as I woke him to take this photo: And then...I brought home a pair of comets who I am QTing in hopes of putting them in my tub pond when I bring in the summer tub fish. One of them looks chubbier and better than the other, but I'm hoping frozen BBS and clean water and meds will even them out. Here's one of those guys: I am going to Chicago for Aquashella (I mean to see family "coincidentally" on Aquashella weekend) so I am looking forward to all that I will see and learn there. I will tag @Woogie23 because I have been thinking of them and their valiant efforts with the barroom silver dollars and hope that all is going in a way that isn't heartbreaking and discouraging because Woogie and those fish deserve a good outcome ❤️ 6
drewzero1
I've had a busy summer so my aquatic interests have taken the back burner a bit, but after thinking about it I still have a lot to show off. This year has been all about the low-effort breeding projects, and this summer there are babies everywhere! (Except my patio pond, but I'll get to that in a bit.) I've had a few opportunities this summer to pick up some plants I can't usually get in my area: dwarf water lettuce (probably?), jungle val (probably), and another mystery plant that the molly fry really love. Last week my LFS had some Monoselenium tenerum come in by mistake and I jumped on it; I've been looking for sußwassertang for ages and this is close enough to give it a shot. First baby endler in my work tank, along with dozens of tiny ramshorn snails. (I tried endlers before but I don't think I gave them the best chance.) The patio pond was a qualified success in that some of the fish survived (put in 6 white cloud minnows, got 5 out). No fry and no signs of spawning. I had to pull the plug early to get the pond out of the way for some patio renovations, but I've got the green light to put in a bigger more permanent outdoor pond next year. For now the pond inhabitants are mingling happily with my other white clouds in my unheated 20 long. Finally, I've been working on a top-secret project for the last few months... a 5 gallon pico marine tank. The current stocking is a blue-legged hermit crab, plus Caulerpa mexicana macroalgae and whatever's in the live rock. This is kind of a test to see if I can handle keeping saltwater. Eventually if it works I'd like to upgrade the tank, lighting, etc. to accommodate clownfish, corals, and additional inverts in a slightly larger reef setting. I'm going to tag @JettsPapa because he really helped me out with my past (and future) gourami aspirations, and I'm curious what he's up to now. rockfisher
I’m working on some guppies. What I bought was not what I got. I ordered BLUE Moscow‘s and got something with blue. They looked pretty good and the females had nice blue tails some they at least had some color. As I raised them I started selling to a LFS. About the third time we noticed that the some of the males had pink/purple tails and dorsal. After a few hours he called and asked if I had anymore of those. I said I did. He asked me to try to breed more. So I have be working on that. I’m starting to learn genetics which will help with my other breeding projects. I breed angelfish, panda corys, very few L-333, and escondido carpintis(they look simlair to Texas Cichlids) these are supposed to be from Guatemala but I’m not having them tested. I just got a 125g and haven’t settled on a plan. I want to expand my breeding to some more small plecos and my discus by right now plans are on hold until after Christmas. This is not the best example of one the new guppies but it was the easiest to get from the pond. It doesn’t help taking pictures of a fish in a round glass. Chick-In-Of-TheSea
This year I: Cured ich in a display tank with nothing but garlic cloves and higher temperature. Added sand.. here is the sand inspector. Likes to inspect while the job is in progress. Took out the plastic plants and now have a lovely planted paradise for my fishies Bought one (yes, ONE) mystery snail which laid eggs, and those eggs just so happened to be fertile. I learned to hatch those eggs and raise truly adorable little baby snails and then adopted those babies out to local hobbyists (of course I kept a few). Then I helped people out on the forum here after they discovered they had been gifted with eggs from their snails. 😍🐌 I learned how to make TWO kinds of Snello… I rescued a snail that was being bullied at the big box store (blue one). He found a girlfriend and took her on a dinner date. I also found the cutest hitchhiker in the Christmas moss. I learned Reverse Respiration. I trained a Bolivian Ram to take her meals at a cave so she didn’t have to compete with the school of tetras. I trained her with a flashlight and got her to follow the beam.. After that I had 2 little black neons that came down with columnaris. I had them for a few months and they were quarantined before being introduced to the display tank, but after a few months things were not looking good for them. Happy to say both are fully recovered, and no one else was affected! This is Pippin. He’s a former patient. He lives a somewhat lonely life in the snail tank right now because he’s the runt, and the guys in the display tank pick on him and stress him out. Well, now the quarantine tote has been sanitized and seasoned and is ready to go again, which means Pippin is getting buddies! Yep, we are increasing the school size and he will be reunited. With larger numbers, everyone should get along. So then, what about the snail tank? The snails have been moved out- all but a few.. hmm.. (🦐 🦐 🦐? ) It’s also becoming well known that @TeeJay has started his own talk show here on the forum called Coffee with @TeeJay, and there are fun topics involved! I’m tagging him so he can tell you all about it. ☕️ Edited September 7, 2022 by Chick-In-Of-TheSea 1

That’s cheating! 😆 😉 Hmmm, fishy life has been pretty boring lately. We’ve had a doc out sick a lot lately, but she’s getting sorted out now and should be back Monday. This means I should go back to my normal schedule and hopefully get my tanks and plans back on track. I’m still planning to consolidate all my smaller tanks into my Offish, fish room, but things are moving achingly slowly. I’m making strides, but they are baby steps at this point and will be for a while. I bought a pair of guppies a couple months ago - the first guppies I’ve kept in decades - and now I’m getting a bit obsessed with guppies. I’ve found a local breeder and have plans to get some trios that will go in some 10’s so they can breed as they like. I may put some in my outside tub next spring. I still have hopes that once I get the Offish done, I’ll get a 150(ish) gallon tank, set up a fast flow riverine style and get some gold nugget plecos breeding. That’s a long way in the future if it happens. Let’s see, who to tag? Soooo many good options, but many have been tagged already. I want to see what @Brandon p has been up to, he always has interesting things going, but it won’t let me tag him properly for some reason? I’ll tag @KentFishFanUK since I haven’t seen anything from him for a while. 5
KentFishFanUK
Thanks @Odd Duck! I haven't been active on the forum in a little while, my ADD brain makes me go hard on things like the forum/hobby in general for a while then other life gets in the way and I 'forget' about it for a time before I'm back in hard haha - but I admit it has given me the warm and fuzzies to be tagged even though I've not been around! Few bits going on in the hobby for me, my breeding programme for a few different types of Japanese ricefish in outdoor ponds is getting off the ground nicely but running out of time this year before the weather gets too cold for breeding. Hopefully next spring I'll be in a place to start spreading them around! Still struggling to breed my panda corydoras' but my wild type Endlers are doing well. Got a couple new live food cultures, a high density vinegar eel culture and moina in green water which is a nice addition to hatching bbs. Bought a new 4' tank and stand which will be my main display in my living room, it's around 280 litres so roughly the same as a 75 Gallon? Won't seem like a lot for most of you guys but in the UK that's considered a pretty large tank. Also quite an upgrade to my current 20 Gallon display on a repurposed baby change unit! I plan to do a nice aquascape in a roughly 'south american' (inspired) biotope. Still in its box at the moment though as need to get the right substrate and wood and lighting etc in (cue my wife's "what's wrong with all the bits of wood and stuff you have in the shed already?" 😂). Still I'm excited to eventually get around to setting it all up! I'm gonna tag @laritheloud your turn! (Don't think you've been tagged yet!) 6

Its Hutch
Osiyo. Thanks for the tag @Guppysnail. I'll tag the boss himself @Corybut he is normally busy so I'll also tag @lefty o again and add @Torrey. I've got lots going on currently. I am building a stand with the help of my BIL for my 35g Cube. I have a bowl full of Albino Corydoras fry. I have about 20 CPD fry I am raising and beefing up. I've got my Nothos Kilifish Rachovii growing out and coloring up. I am breaking down my for profit shrimp tanks to make room for the new stand and aquarium. I am conditioning my Paleatus Corydoras to breed but need the outside temps to cool off before I can do a cold water waterchange. Here are some pictures. Wood all measured and cut. Rough Draft of how it'll go together. 7 week old fry vs 1 week old fry Close up. Male Rachovii who won't sit still for a picture. Pictures don't do him justice yet but you can kinda see his pattern and colors starting to come in. The pair I got is about 8 weeks old right now I think. 2 1
laritheloud
This is a really great thread, and thank you @KentFishFanUK for the tag. I don't have much going on in my fishy life right now, though, as I've been focusing on maintenance and working on other things! Most recently I obtained an L519 bristlenose pleco that's super neat, along with a pair of nanochromis splendens that I'm not really counting on breeding successfully but it'd be great if they did. Both are about wrapped with quarantining together and thriving. The pleco will stay in my 20 long until he grows out enough to make a smooth transition to my 55 gallon. My thicklips are doing great but Lady Marmalade was getting bullied, so I separated her to a different tank and she's doing a bit better. Hoping the lower-stress environment will do her good. For anyone who remembers my shifting municipal water parameters, after a year of KH 10 GH 0 water, we have switched back to the hard water wells this year. I now know that water parameters are likely to change in the fall, around August-September. I've stopped adding wondershells to my tanks and let them stabilize at the tap levels of GH 8 and KH 10. I have a newfound love of cichlids and really want to move in to trying more of them out long-term. After my thicklips live out their happy lives I plan to replace them in my 55 gallon with other species of cichlid to complement my Anomalachromis Thomasi and Electric Blue Acara; I'm not anticipating that this should happen too soon. I still have dreams of getting a very large tank for my living room (either for goldfish or cichlids, depending on my mood at the time), but won't be able to until the kids no longer use their toy collection. On a more personal level, another reason that I'm pulling back on expanding my fishkeeping adventures at the moment is because I'm starting intensive eating disorder recovery. I've beaten up my body; I'm bulimic with an exercise compulsion and I'm always tired and aching, and I can no longer sleep uninterrupted for more than two hours at a time. I am feeling hopeful that I can repair my habits now that I've been matched to the right help, but I'm nervous and stressed, especially with the school year starting back up again and two kids to shuttle to activities. ❤️ Fingers crossed all goes well, and I can find some energy again... I'm not sure who else needs to be tagged! @Colu? Someone else? I feel quite out of it. Thanks for reading, this is an amazing community to be a part of. 3
