Try catching him at night, usually works.
I’ve also had problems catching cherry barbs in a 63 gal. God forbid I should ever catch hillstream loaches out of a 100 gal!
Anything really, but Java Moss and micro sword look really nice as long as you have a couple of amanos to keep the algae in check.
Dwarf hair grass is also v. cool.

Males tend to defend small territories in the wild, and mine was quite content downsizing from a 35 gal. Females also tend to be less aggressive, and therefore do better in community tanks.
