New Tank, Couple of Deaths, Trying to find the issue
TankofFish replied to DarthRevan's topic in General Discussion
this will help Emergency: Performing a Fish-in Cycle The RIGHT Way - FishLab and always do research for yourself when it comes to keeping fish. I have learned this the hard way 1 to many times, matter in fact not to long ago. -
Yeah, guess I need to make a decision real soon on this guy.

Yeap, looks like the cat I have...just great, can't stand when I get bad info from a LFS.
-
Not the best pics I know but this cat is hard to get pics of. I just got him moved over to the 55 gallon. When I bought this cat the guy at the LFS said he would get around 8 inches long, any help on the ID of this cat would be awesome

TankofFish replied to shelbyd.mattison's topic in General Discussion
LOL....co-op is making money if they are buying from co-op. The seller is doing nothing wrong on amazon -

this is a copy and past from another sight Corbicula cause the most problems in private ponds of any mussel found in the United States. They have been in North America since the early 1900s when they arrived from Asia likely in the ballast of ships, although there is some evidence that they were intentionally released.

I do think your right

this is the link I'm reading from and I'm 90% sure its the clams I'm talking about Golden Freshwater Clam (aquaticcommunity.com)

what type of heater do you guys recommend?
TankofFish replied to FishyMike's topic in General Discussion
@Steph’s Fish and Plants has given sound advice. If you still want to go with single heaters I use Hygger, yes you have to get over they are china made -
the ticking time time bomb does not worry me, its what I read when they reproduce that has pretty much stopped me cold turkey. One mature clam can lay thousands of eggs from what I'm reading

As I was hunting for drift wood last weekend I was finding a gold shell looking clam. I'm think I might go back and get some to put in one of my tanks. I have read they do well in help keeping the water filter ( filter feeders and eat particles from the water) , not sure if true or not but I think I will find out. I'm still reading up on them though.... any info yall would like to share would be great

What's the meanest freshwater hobby fish?
TankofFish replied to Gestaltgal's topic in General Discussion
My green terror is pretty nice for the most part, every once in a while she will get after the fire mouth but the golden dojo's and cory's she does not mess with. -

I so wanted one and my LFS had one, he talked me out of it cause he said the fish I had in my tank would be killed once the wolf got a little older and my 150 gallon just was not big enough for a fish that could reach 28 inches, at least I didn't think so -
@Torrey yes I did, the short piece went in the snail tank, they are loving it.
-
substrate could be your issues, not sure what type you have but it looks like it has sharp edges

Starting a 350 gallon vieja tank, any advice is welcome!
TankofFish replied to HenryC's topic in General Discussion
Nice 350 gallons!! wish I ccould be of some help but have never had a tank big enough to own one of them there fish good luck -
Well, when I get it all set up I will take a pic of the tank. Right now, I got to order a light system for the tank and a heater for the winter time( tank is in the basement)...I thank all for the replies and oh yeah, the twisted piece, I had to cut 4 inches off of it so it would fit...

Time for the wood to get a nice hot salt bath
-
Yes it was a good find, and any soft wood gets the wire brush treatment, if I find it's soft all the way through I chunk it.
