  1. Oh and this is what Sam Wilson the Betta had his tank end up looking like. I am trying java ferns again, it has been a battle of mine over the years to grow it.
  2. So I ended up with her plakat as she found him to be aggressive. What I have done though is since converted the tank to a shrimp and snail tank, and she is loving it. Just thought y'all might want an update.
  3. They key thing is to find fish that it won't be able to get in its mouth. Here are 7 of my picks: 1. Various corydoras (no nano one's like pygmy). You could go salt'n'pepper, albino, panda, etc. 2. Bristlenose pleco 3. Swordtails 4. Boseamani (sp?) rainbow fish 5. YoYo loach 6. Platies 7. Mollies
  4. The betta will have a hard time getting away from an angelfish.
  5. As for floating plants, I have luck with my male honey gouramis with both water lettuce and frogbit.
  6. While not a plant, my honey gouramis (particularly the males) love floating logs. The sale the betta one at the Co Op which they have liked for me in the past ( https://www.aquariumcoop.com/products/betta-floating-log?_pos=1&_sid=6ee6465ec&_ss=r ). However, the zoo med small and medium floating logs for my honey gouramis work much better. Mine tend to next in the little air circle at the top of each log. Here is the small one: https://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-Floating-Aquarium-Small/dp/B000FMWPBK/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=aquarium+log+floating&qid=1624230303&sr=8-1 Here is the medium one: https://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-Floating-Aquarium-Medium/dp/B000FMWPCO/ref=psdc_2975452011_t2_B000FMWPBK I so wish the Co Op would carry these. In my personal opinion, they are way better, even for bettas, than the betta version.
  7. It may be exerting more energy to get leaves to the top level to have better access not only to light but CO2. Many of my aquarium dwarf lillies have done this in the past. Also it may possibly be nutrient defiency as it sheds it gets rid of its least productive leaves to focus in on those who provide it the most. Fun little itp, you sort of can train plants at times. If you cut runners that go to the surface; it will promote it to bush out. As time goes on it, it sort of learns to take less attempts to send up runners.
  8. Almond leaves are a wonderful thing for aquariums as they bring so many different benefits. One thing I have wondered about at times is why do certain almond leaves cause different effects on the water. There are some brands of almond leaves I am able to add to my tanks that will stain the water but water cloudiness never occurs. Then there are other brands of almond leaves that within a day of adding them to a tank they will begin to cause cloudiness. Is there something I am missing when buying almond leaves?
  9. Otos are amazing but they can be especially fragile, especially when not kept in groups. If you are buying otos from a store that has not fattened them up, there is a fair chance they may or may not make it through getting adjusted to your tank. Most of the time I do not want to drive almost 3 hours to get healthy otos, so I buy from a big box store. When I do this, I know evven though they try at this location, that I will see a percentage of them pass. Here is a fun little video from Chris at Fish for Thoughts on Otos. He compares them and samiase algaes to stats as if they were video game characters / DnD characters.
  10. Y'all I can't believe in about a month we will be hitting our 1 year marker 🙂 and I'll be turning 40 on the same day. I am so happy that I found all you wonderful folk. It has been a great year.
  11. And for those of us who are members 🙂 They already have the video of the plunge up.
  12. My water is hard, so I do freshwater as to avoid adding additional hardness to the water.
  13. If you are new to fish keeping, I would encourage you to maybe consider a plakat betta as they are hardy and make a great fish 5 a gallon. You might be able to keep 2-3 african dwarfs and maybe a mystery snail with it.
  14. If its going to be mostly just them, I would say maybe 6 for most people.
  15. This video that came out on More Aquarium Co Op by the wonderful @Irene might help
  16. That is going to depend on a lot of things, like what is your water change schedule, how heavily will you be feeding, will there be plants, what type of substrate etc.
  17. Here are some stocking ideas. The thing is with smaller fish, a lot of them need to be kept in groups. There are exceptions like bettas. It is very hard to be able to get a group that is top, mid, and bottom because the actual tank is just so small. You are pretty much not going to have a mid section. And for corydoras you will not really want to go with anything bigger than pygmy. I know you asked about Panda, but they are just to big because you will need to keep them in groups.
  18. This may or may not be relevant, I do run an air filter in that room. This is the air filter: https://www.amazon.com/LEVOIT-Purifier-Home-Allergies-Pets/dp/B07VVK39F7/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=air+filter+hepa&qid=1621903306&s=home-garden&sr=1-3
  19. Airstone installed 11 months ago. Green felt. No smoking or vaping. In the room next to this room, I will occassionally run cinnamon oil in a diffuser in the mornings on Saturday and Sunday (my days off). This is located in my bedroom on a book shelf with 4 other 5 gallons.
  20. I am not trying to be rude, but just to make sure your tank size is 5 gallons? With a tank that small it will be hard to stock anything beyond one or two species, and they will need to be nano.
  21. Currently TDS: 280~ Tank Size: 5.5g Ph: 6.8 Water Change: Roughly 50% weekly (I do 1/3 tap water with 2/3 distilled water) Fertilizer used: Aquarium Co Op Liquid and Root Tabs Substrate: brown basic aquarium gravel Hardscape: Dragonstone Plants in tank: Anubias nana petite, dwarf water lettuce, dwarf sag., java fern Livestock: 1 betta and 3 african dwarf frogs
  22. Alternate unlisted youtube videos that I will take down at a later point. I don't want to speak negativelly of the coop in anyway way, just wanting to provide some info. Video 01: Showing that it has quit working in the aquarium: Video 02: Showing that the actual air is going through the line: Video 03: Dissambling the aquarium co op sponge filter with never clog air Video 04: Showing once the never clog airstone has been cleaned, that it works once you put it back into the tank
  23. A while back I commented on a post about experiencing the never clog airstone malfunctioning. This ended up happening tonight. Here are a few videos of documenting it. I hope it helps. Also it seems to resolve if you take it a part, wash it, and put it back together. Video 01: Showing that it has quit working in the aquarium: https://photos.app.goo.gl/GvEVMqniQ1KTsJL27 Video 02: Showing that the actual air is going through the line: https://photos.app.goo.gl/3UcBg5nMdpX7amzP6 Video 03: Dissambling the aquarium co op sponge filter with never clog air stone: https://photos.app.goo.gl/bTwqh1FJyxrMjAvQ9 Video 04: Showing once the never clog airstone has been cleaned, that it works once you put it back into the tank: https://photos.app.goo.gl/STerPphRjtNgwjPo7 The sponge filter is removed from the tank and cleaned under a sink every two weeks. The aquarium receives a 50% water change weekly. The sponge itself was serviced 2 days before the videos were taken. The airstone has been in use for 11 months.
  24. So I have an aquarium with a fair bit dragon stone (maybe 30% of the tank) with a single plakat for about the last two years. So far I have not experienced any issues. But this is simply my experience over the last two years.
