  1. Pulled some frogbit and salvinia out of the tank, caught some guppies for a friend who's starting their own pond.
  2. Good luck! If you're ever able to find out the solution to the 70 degrees, let me know 😭 When I got my fish in September, the room temperature was 90 degrees. Hopefully soon I'll be able to move the tanks to a slightly cooler area of the house and upgrade the tank.
  3. 👋 Are you from Oahu? I'm always excited to see new people from Hawaii on the forum. My goldfish tank finally went under 80 degrees this month; it is planted and they seem to be doing okay. They sure are personable fish, who've learned to recognize me and spit water out of the tank when they want something.
  4. Good luck! I piggybacked off a neighbor's order last week; it was scheduled to arrive on Wednesday but didn't arrive till Saturday. With the caveat that I live in a very temperate climate and pretty well-suited to a plant living in a box for a few days at the post office, the plant was still in good condition. Of course, it ended up in a tank where the lights went off for a week due to deworming meds...such is life. You can hang on for a couple more days, moneywort! Also, this particular order came in a day or two earlier than usual. Good luck with your own order 😄
  5. Thank you! I've had a lot of fun with these guys; they're not easy to find but I was lucky in that a local breeder had them, and I found some at a LFS. There's platinum ricefish at the local aquascaping store that I look at longingly every time I go...one day...
  6. Pakige today......packed excellently as usual! Assuming I get a little cash for Christmas, I'm sure I'll be buying again before the new year. I'm holding off posting reviews because I'd like to wait a few days to see how the plants and sponge filter do, especially to compare the coarse sponge with the pictured sponge, which was cleaned out on Saturday. Floating the baby tears because leaves decided to grow instead of roots. The paper goes into the cat's boxes for padding. Includes the pink flamingo (which, pre-melt, is the biggest crypt in my tank)
  7. This is absolutely GORGEOUS. Wow!! I'm gonna have to try this out on one of my smaller tanks. The fish look so wonderful against the background. Thank you for sharing!
  8. Moved the goldfish fry out of the breeder box and into the ricefish tank so it'll have more room to grow. According to my research he'll be big enough to go to his new home in about a month! Hatched out some BBS and fed it to both ricefish tanks. Might need to change water tomorrow since I think I added too much bbs to the tank 😅
  9. I have the exact same tank with fancy goldfish. Apologies for the horrible lighting; it's currently lit by a 1-2 walmart grow bulbs, hence the purple. Additional apologies for the fishy photobombers. I have java ferns, anubias, val in the pot in the back, as well as a aponogeton that grew out of a petsmart bulb. Trying to figure out how to secure the anubias and java fern into the rockwork so the goldfish can't disrupt it too much when they want to go digging.
  10. I love seeing all of your updates; they give off a very serene vibe.
  11. I've wanted a fire eel since I got into this hobby. I'm not sure if I'll ever get one though. I'd also like one of those 125-150g fully planted discus/GBR/sterbai/cardinal tetra tanks, as the regular room temperature is pretty conducive to discus, especially in the summer.
  12. The single snail in my aquarium, who has diligently been laying eggs.
  13. Started the rescape of my 36g; noticed eggs on my orange ricefish and threw in the spawning mop, started expel-p on the 10g ricefish tank!
  14. I splurged on an impulse buy from the Coop when I saw the pink flamingo was on sale 😂 However, my early Christmas presents to myself (for the next 2-3 years, probably) were the goldfish tank and a litter robot.
  15. update: Unfortunately as anticipated, the skinny ricefish didn't make it; after pulling it I noticed what I believe is a camallanus red worm coming out of its anus. I'd already started the second dose of paracleanse, so after that I'll wait a week or two, then begin deworming with levamisole just because these fish are so small. At the moment, the other 6 ricefish are energetic, eating well, and have round bellies. Included is a picture of the fish; I'm not sure if the worm will show up as it retracted into the body as I was taking pictures and also poking it with a clay shaping tool. For some perspective on the size of this fish, it's laying on a Tetra test strip.
  16. I'm lucky enough not to have to pay for rent/utilities, so I've set up two for-profit tanks to pay for the hobby, or even possibly a little bit of my car/school. Old pic. I can't remember why the water level was so low, lmao. Plants: Crypts, anubias (which will be moving to the goldfish tank), frogbit, vallisneria, red root floaters, java moss, and amazon sword. Stocking: 7x Daisy's ricefish, 5x bronze corys. Post-qt, one of the ricefish is very skinny and listless so I'm not sure if it'll make it. Treating with paracleanse again. The corys have gotten MASSIVE since I purchased them two weeks ago, and from what I've read, the ricefish are a month or so away from being large enough to breed. If you look at the large white ricefish, they have been moved to a neighbor's tank and just started breeding today! I'd like to upgrade this to a 20g in order to give the corys more room and add more plants, and turn this tank into a grow out tank. There's a sale going on at a LFS this weekend, so I'll see if I can pick one up. Stocking: 5x orange ricefish. I estimate they're a couple weeks away from being large enough to breed. They don't look great against the orange/red substrate unfortunately 😞 Plants: Java fern (also going to the goldfish tank, but the petsmart lace variant has begun propagating, so the babies will stay in here), vallisneria (half of which is going in the goldfish tank), spring onion, microsword, hairgrass, crypts, melon sword, monte carlo, frogbit, red root floaters, pearlweed, and possibly dwarf sag. If you couldn't tell, I love plants and I'd also like to sell cuttings for profit 🙂 I should, however, figure out which plant is which. Plants are my ultimate impulse purchase. This weekend I'm gonna cut glass for the lid and actually pull the plants that are going in the goldfish rescape tank. I'm also gonna replant the pearlweed,
  17. I've been planning to go to Manoa stream to catch some fish for a new aquarium whenever I get it set up...I'll admit I'm a little afraid of catching a massive pleco because I've got nowhere to keep it but I don't want to release it since it's invasive 😕
  18. I just wanted a cheap sponge filter; I'm not sure I've ever used this brand before. But so far it's worked out nicely for the price. I always find myself picking through the more obscure brands and products at petland in search of good deals.
  19. An update Winter is setting in. With the AC on, the water temperature in the tank finally dropped below 80! Added a third tankmate to the 36g; a one eyed Oranda who caught my eye at the store. I qt'd him for a week, but due to poor visibility in the qt storage tote, I added ich to the tank. Oops. The original residents didn't show any sign of ich throughout the treatment process. I also added pothos to the aquarium; it took weeks for the first roots to appear. I put in a larger cutting in the hopes this one won't take as long, but if I go to the hardware store this weekend, I might grab a whole plant. My goldfish were supposed to be juvies, but I'm 95% sure they've spawned (see picture of the mystery fry). I feel like they haven't grown much, if all, since getting them in September. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with the fry; 4 fancies in a 36 is a bit much, even if the first three might be stunted and the tank will eventually be heavily planted. In the meantime, I'm planning a rescape of the tank, adding more rocks and plants. pictured: pothos, new and weeks old Mochi crunch the chocolate Oranda! Mystery fry (presumed oranda/lionchu) Full tank shot!
  20. I love your tanks! The tanks that have the lush, jungle look, plus the wonderful mix of substrates are my favorite kinds.
  21. I was browsing the co-op blog and saw this article about an alternative to moss walls. I'm interested in trying it out and have most of the plants I'd need, but I'm a little hesitant about spending $50+ on the mat, as I'd do this for a 36g tank. Has anyone tried this out, or done living walls in general? If you did, how did it turn out, especially in the long run? Was it worth it?
