@Bev C I also use clear glass or plastic so the sun keeps the water from getting nasty. Seems dark opaque cups make yucky water and don’t do as well for me.
I put the sweet potato in the tank raw for feeding or it gets mushy and messy. I hear others blanch though.

Thats it. It will send 3-15 sprouts. Each sprout can then be removed and rooted using that same method. Once you see roots either plant or drop roots on the tank.

How do you hold the sweet potato in the tank? I sprouted my sweet potato a while ago, but now I don't know how to suspend it in my rimmed tank.  Thank you for the very informative journal!

Once I remove the sprouts from the potato itself and then root the sprouts in a cup of water or sometimes before they root I root them in the tank. I use egg crate lighting grid and cut it down and I put that on the back of tanks instead of the plastic strip that goes on the back of the glass lids. And I just stick them through here’s an example of one tank and then the empty one is where the sweet potatoes are going to go.
The journal thing is fun I get so many ideas from so many people and they can pick up ideas for me and it’s just a wonderfully fun thing. I’m glad you like it. Anybody can start one so if you start one tag me so I know what I’m looking for I’d love to follow along I follow along with so many journeys on this forum I really get a lot out of it.

i love reading the different journals on this forum too i learn a lot ..

I was thinking of starting a journal but I was not sure if I would update it often and i do not take many photos or videos,, I am not that interesting person and i am no expert on plants and fish

but i have notice there might be a need me to journal for a few people here   that it might help ..

since i am disabled and fish keeping  for 13-15 years with one hand  because you have to rework a situation  differently to work better for a disability

I learn allot through my mistakes or accidentally

Still thinking of starting … a journal

@Bev C your experience and the fact that you have reworked things to accommodate your disability are very valuable. I don’t think it matters how often you update or if you take a lot of photos. If you think of something that you are doing you don’t hear about share it.

EVERYONE IS UNIQUE AND THEREFORE INTERESTING!!!!!!

@Cinnebuns I’m mailing a clutch of magenta mystery snail eggs to a friend. Can you please walk me through step by step how you packaged them to arrive safely please? Thank you 😊 🤗

Sure!

It's simple really. I sent them in a tupperware which they can then use as an incubator. I set it up the same as the incubator I used with 1 exception. I also put paper towels on top of it so it doesn't dry out. I poked holes in the lid. First layer is wet paper towel. 2nd layer is dry paper towel. Then the clutch. On top of that dry paper towel and then damp paper towel (not too wet so it doesn't drip down).  So it's kinda a clutch sandwich lol. I advise the person to remove the top paper towels and float in a tank.

@Chick-In-Of-TheSea @Cinnebuns @Katherine

I can confirm red onion and tiger nerite are the same. You see the new growth pattern since I got this one. It is now well fed (I always have algae 🤣) and the black has spread to dots and color has lightened. So I’m guessing before they did not have adequate food so grew slower making the pattern tight together

Hope all is well, I haven’t been able to keep up with everything how is lefty? Are you still making trips with your guppies or did you find somewhere local? I see lately you are obsessed with snails especially nerites. I wasn’t aware of so many different verities. You have some beautiful types. I had to relocate all my nerite snails to one tank due to them laying eggs all over my driftwood.
Are you still using a siesta period with your lights. I’ve changed my to a single cycle of 9 1/2 hours a day. I believe I’m having better success this way. Getting a lot of new growth. Do you believe if I’m bringing in my vallisneria from my outside tub into a 78-ish degree tank I’ll need to accumulate? Do pants get temperature schocked?
thanks @Guppysnail 😃

Not just nerites but piano snails, spixii snails and white wizards also. This years adventures are all new to me snails and fish. The new fish are Scarlet badis, Badis badis, Melini corydora and my fish guy has Bolivian rams in qt right now. The less common ones I started separate journals for so folks aren’t sifting through 50+ pages to find them. Lefty is great  Her and Angel spawn monthly  A140D957-1EC1-41DF-B770-835205029FC2.jpeg.71909ad288b48d5be7b938cbdb41de77.jpegBDD17164-2E5E-4138-8F50-FD9940400F17.jpeg.775215c030d499308e80e0d604881c34.jpeg
My use of siesta went by the wayside for the summer. Those rooms get so much direct sunlight my lighting needs decrease drastically.  I only light through the dim part of the morning and early afternoon.

Right now it varies depending on the sunny/ overcast nature of the day. And varies tank to tank based on sun position. For the winter I intend to return to siesta periods.

Your Val I’m uncertain.  Val for me tends to melt if I look at it incorrectly.  Based on that I would allow it to hit room temp naturally and then set it in a sunny window. When the glass is at tank temp move it to the tank. This is just what I would do to avoid temp shock not any great nugget of knowledge 🤷‍♀️

My scud culture is so entertaining. I almost don’t want to harvest them. They are so busy all the time.

My sweet potato is thriving. I hope the shoots become large enough to harvest before that window ledge becomes too cold. They like warm. 237C26C6-F65A-4C72-9C50-F8459989FF06.jpeg.5e5d097b7b5b28cd4da6c06c800835d3.jpeg

😍😍😍😍 Ord.... Trying to play catch up with everyone's stuff. Are you letting angel and lefties spawns hatch out or are you pulling the eggs?

Any more white wizard babies!?

No white wizards but I have 2 piano snail babies. 091218DF-7F01-480E-B34D-D8D44085AD16.jpeg.05bfded2f07574f9d524e344b04f0271.jpegB41EB0B0-FA22-47F5-9580-B651ACB97168.jpeg.7c8534422279973c7ddb11b3c87c66d8.jpeg

Currently @Fish Folk is helping me with an experiment.  I’m shipping Lefty and Angels egg clutches as well as Mom n Dads to him. He is hatching. Trying to get good hatches after shipping so I can more easily share them. I’m no longer hatching any. I’ve raised so many the fun is gone and now it’s work. I’m working with several new to me fish and snails this year so I really don’t have the room.
