CaribSea Peace River is a common and popular river look for a non-dirted substrate. Were you dosing liquid fertilizer and root tabs for your plants that weren't going well? Generally you need both for plants to thrive. The substrate doesn't matter for Cordoras. They're around sharp substrates in the wild. Don't worry about avoiding sharp substrates for them.

Sounds like you're a full fledged NERM already. Welcome! -
Please help tank out of cycle and my setup
Jeff replied to TealStarlight's topic in General Discussion
I squeeze out my pre-filter sponge in the used tank water every week during water changes. -
What is your favorite or "go-to" plant, and why?
Jeff replied to clownbaby's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
Dwarf Aquarium Lily, and Crypts. They both are fast growers, and fill out the space they're in really well. Crypts are a great mid ground plant. I think I'm going to do a Crypt garden ala Corey some day. -
Do you have a link for the flexible ice trays that you use? Looking at ones on Amazon; and of course they all have their flaws...ha I don't want flaky plastic getting in the food like some end up having, or other issues like that. Wondering if you really like the ones you use?

Nice! What are your plans for your tank? Shrimp, inverts? What about your lights and filtration? I always enjoy hearing what 'runs' people's tanks.

Cory mentioned this on the Facebook group. I still have the Fritz salt that the Co-Op used to sell, as I haven't run out yet. Would this work, or do I need their new Easy Brine Shrimp Salt to do this?

Just bought a Top Fin stand from Petco, and I love it! It's the best store bought stand I've ever had; and I've had quite a bit. Their customer service is great too!

The majority of my Amazon frog bit is dying
Jeff replied to TheDesktopAquarium's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
Yeah; Frogbit doesn't care about flow, nor water on top. It's why I have it in my tank. It's not high maintenance at all. -
Whichever substrate you choose - don't worry about sharp edges with Corydoras. Cory himself has said he sees Corys in the wild, with sharp bottoms in the areas they're in, in nature. That is not an issue in an aquarium.

This. Don't chase parameters like this, if everything is happy and healthy.

We LOVE us some tank pics! When you have a chance, let's see your tank 🙂 Welcome aboard!

The same goes for fish and plants, as well - I might add.

Welcome! How long have you been in the hobby? How big is your current tank? How long has it been set up? I'm from Michigan. A lot of great people here, with a lot of great advice! Check out the Aquarium Co-Op YouTube channel - so, so much info to learn from there, as well as here!

Issues growing Pogo + unbalanced tank
Jeff replied to EricksonAquatics's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
Are you using any root tabs? If not, I would suggest inserting those 1x / month. Also, what are your other water parameters? -
I've got the sponge filter one for you, or the other Killifish one. I'm interested in your purple snail.

How did everyone find Aquarium Co-Op?
Jeff replied to Andrew Puhr's topic in Introductions & Greetings
I stumbled upon this video, laughed a lot, learned more about them, and was hooked. I just wish that I had joined the club sooner. I'll hit 3 years in May. This is still my #1 favorite ACO video. I laugh every time I watch it. -
what type of algae eater would be good for me?
Jeff replied to annalyn's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
IMO, the best algae eater is live plants. That's what I would recommend. Tell us a little about your tank - how long has it been set up, pics, anything else besides guppies? -
How much Easy Green liquid fert should I be dosing?
Jeff replied to awong918's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
I know it's one squirt per 10 gallons. One squirt has to be the solution for anything under 10. I agree with @lefty o your plants look great! -
I agree with @Tony s More than you think. Practically any plant that ACO sells on their site. I've had Frogbit and Duckweed as my floaters, and still had Dwarf Hairgrass, Crypts, Pogostemus Stellatus Octopus, Anubias, Vallasenaria, etc all grow. The list goes on. The key, is having a light, where you can dim or intensify the brightness. With that said, I would HIGHLY recommend the ACO light. It's the best light on the market, and practically indestructible. Go watch Cory's video from yesterday - you'll laugh and be impressed by it all at the same time.

I'm always going to beat this drum, as they're so underrated. But, I would get 15-20 Chili Rasboras. When they color up, they are the best looking red fish you can get, imo. And...AND....they're practically like shrimp, where they add almost zero to your bio load.

Yeah; it seems like if you're going to do the silicone method; it's probably best to do that when you start the tank up. @Zenzo is probably a good one to chime in, as he has a good amount of experience. I looked through his background videos, but didn't see a full tutorial for silicone.
