  1. they are a nice to have to target specific plants, but the fact is, everything in the tank is in the water column. so if you are using a liquid fertilizer, the fert is getting anywhere in the tank that is wet.
  2. the staff ( i believe Zenzo is currently doing it) chooses recipients it seems based on criteria of forum participation, being nice, helpful etc. im sure that im not 100% correct in that, but it doesnt require entry, nor is it just a random draw. no purchase necessary to win!!!! this is a very cool perk of the forum!
  3. i used to keep long fin black skirt tetras with guppy's with no issues.
  4. dont feel bad, ive never been able to keep stem plants alive. plenty of others do great for me, but not stems.
  5. id also go with the 10g. a larger tank is always easier to keep stable, and clean.
  6. there is a big thread somewhere up in the general discussion area. not uncommon. it is a great little pump, until it isnt.
  7. probably wont be in the next week. the lower abdomen will typically square off a bit the last week or so.
  8. salt will likely help with the clamped fin, and swelling. probably wont do much for cloudy eyes, but hopefully gets them on the right track until the meds show up.
  9. first question is, what is wrong with them? without knowing anything else id do about 1tbsp per 3 gallons just as a general tonic.
  10. pretty much all airline tubing gets that way after a while. to get around trying to pull the airline and put it back on, i would pop the top off the sponge filter leaving the line hooked up. then just pull the bottom half of the sponge filter with sponge still on it out to rinse off.
  11. put the valve piece about 3' away from the syphon end. that way when you are gravel vac'ing or filling and you need to stop the flow you can without running all the way back to the faucet.
  12. lay it out how you want it, take the hose slide one of the black collars over the hose, slide it back a bit, then take one of the barbed fittings and push that into the hose. now take the collar you already slid on , and slip it up to the barbed fitting you just pushed in, and thread the 2 together. that just completed 1 fitting. once you get 1, its not hard you'll figure it out. id google up some more videos as its much harder to describe than to do.
  13. it will hold at least an amount of rocks equal to the weight in water it will hold. biggest issue with big heavy rocks is that they can bear all the weight on a small contact point if they are placed directly on glass.
  14. in a nicely planted tank, its hard to go wrong with ember tetras. they really look good against greenery.
  15. when i see a box labeled "grow light", funny but my mind doesnt instantly think normal house plants.😈
  16. likely some form of bio film. the fish are eating it, id not overly worry. safe , but unsightly.
  17. for needing to fatten up, just multiple light feedings daily.
  18. they tend to move a bit when filled up, unless they are on concrete.
  19. like above, i make an effort to level the stand, but if it moves after filling i dont sweat it.
  20. 15min float to temp acclimate, then plop em in.
  21. they tend to max out at about 4" so he should be okay long term in that tank. they also are one that likes to stay hidden most of the time.
  22. oh no... i gave up on stem plants a long long time ago. i stick with anubia's, java ferns, crypts, and vals. i even manage to keep amazon swords alive, but they do struggle. plus im currently snail free, except for a few nerites.
