  1. I bet it is a poop by now 😄 😄
  2. Maybe after having lots of fish passing away, the filter couldn't handle it so you are reading nitrites. Still quite toxic I would say. Have you tested for ammonia?
  3. Dark colored substrates. Shrimp show better color on darker colored substrates. I would go for something brown or black-ish as long as you wont be keeping black roses. And to me, river sand is not dark enough. I have some shrimp on it and nope, it is not dark enough imo. They don’t show their exact color well.
  4. I have 7 bettas and they are extremely peaceful in general. I'm lucky on that one. The only fish they all hate is male guppies. Females, perfectly fine. Fry, perfectly fine. Males = death. 😞 I love how everything is working fine and well for you. All those cycling attempts and time you've spent to learn is paying off. I'm so happy Sherry. Congrats! That's your success 🙂
  5. What “was” that part made me laugh 😄 Aaah Chick, you never fail to make me laugh
  6. Crayfish are escape artists tho! I guess u have no lid? @smm333
  7. @nabokovfan87 can share his opinions and experience regarding seachem tidals. I personally love AquaClear a lot. But I guess it has restarting issue due to most people there using rimmed tanks, so the Hob stands much higher than the water level, so in case of a power out, the water inside the motor part drains so once powered up, it works dry. I use 3 aquaclears in my bedroom tanks, and my tanks are all glass to glass. I dont have this issue personally. Only one tend to have magnet stuck inside the motor, so sometimes it needs manually to be touched on the motor part to restart.
  8. @Biotope Biologist Are isopods safe to collect from garden? Or they may carry some nasties? 🤔 Also this seems like something you may like Edit: I found some people selling them online! Yay. They have the normal grey ones, orange ones that you have and cow ones. Cow ones are also adorable So I better get some as cleanup crew?
  9. Suddenly you decided to drop the oldschool habit huh? 🤣 I didnt know the price. That's HIGH
  10. That does not directly mean its cycled to be fair. The cycle might be not there at all even. To make sure, you need to have an ammonia source in the tank, then you gotta read ammonia to nitrite, and nitrite to nitrate. So basically you gotta also know your nitrate and ammonia readings, as well as there must be an ammonia source to have the beneficial bacteria cycle going on. On an empty tank you will also read 0 nitrite, or when they cycle is very new, maybe all you will read is ammonia and no nitrites yet. 0 nitrite reading may not mean it is cycled, is what I'm trying to explain. hope it is not confusing. Beneficial bacteria lives on the surface but they like oxygenated water flow. These two are mainly combined at filters. Even tho there is bb on surfaces like drftwood, substrate, glasses, plants, etc., they are mainly located at the filter. When you introduce an established filter into a new tank, it generally handles a similar bioload directly. If you move only plants or gravel for example, they will indeed introduce beneficial bacteria, but I don't think it can handle the same bioload of the fish from where it is taken, if you introduce a fresh new filter.
  11. Maybe you like these too!
  12. Pretty sure rainbows and red tails bully SAEs. Well to be fair, even my 3 SAEs bully each other enough 😄 But that's nice to hear. I'm always interested in roselines and I love my SAEs and I like them in their big tank
  13. they are very pretty and ancient looking. I fell in love with the yellow witchers. The others they have are Disco, Ironfist, and Dennerle
  14. Usually plecos and whiptails like farlowella eat more algae as juveniles, and they start eating less or some even stop when they grow up. It can assist you with algae cleaning, but algae control is always up to us at the end of the day really. Well, you will have to support your fish's diet no matter what to be honest. I personally always see what tanks offer as an extra grazing source but I feed my fish dedicatedly. Royal Farlowellas look amazing. Maybe you can even breed them! who knows
  15. Some are more herbivorous and they eat algae. Red lizards don't. If you want some algae eating and like the whiptails, you should check the ones like Royal Farlowella instead. I keep mine at 78F too. but with a high flow+ supported oxygen with neo air diffuser. These guys really like colder water with high flow, as colder water has more oxygen content. My friend @beastie keep hers in a colder high flow asian tank, and pretty sure hers is waaaay more happier than mine. Mine is alive and well, but surely doesn't thrive in such conditions considering it is basically not what he naturally wants
  16. Keeping the water part cycled seems a lil tricky. Isopods are really cool. When I was a kid, I spent my summers feeding them nonstop at my grandma's garden. There were so many! 😄
  17. Look at its size next to a couple aquasoil balls. @Schuyler
  18. Well, I love crabs. Seeing @Ninjoma's journal, made me even more willing to keep some. I made some readings and watching regarding the care and tank setup. I will be setting a paludarium for a group and try it as a breeding project. %80 land, %20 seems like the best option advised in general. My questions are: - Does the humidity, temperature, etc has any effect on the gender of the babies? - Should I aim a certain temperature, or room temperature is fine? - Can they crawl on flat surfaces like glass? - What is the ideal substrate for the land parts in your experience? - Which tank should I keep them in? 110cmx40cmx25cmh, or, 50cmx40cmx25cmh? - They are usually okay to be kept in a group ,but some males can be deadly aggressive against females it seems. Any experience on this one? -Is there any temperament difference or any difficulting difference in breeding different vampire crab species? Like disco vs yellow witcher vs Ironfish etc. Please share any experience or knowledge of yours!^^ @Biotope Biologist do you have any experience or knowledge about crabs? If so, I would love to hear from you as well This channel is a vampire crab gem. I'm in love with the videos 😍 https://www.youtube.com/@IndoorEcosystem Challenge for everyone that visits this topic.
