  1. From what I have read and watched they really prefer live but can be eased into other foods. I ordered mine online and was told they are fed northfin community and bug pro so I am going to try that along with vinegar eels and microworms. Those are the live foods my other tiny fish go crazy for.
  2. I'm hoping to spawn them, but it seems tricky. Hopefully I can get everything just right!
  3. So after MONTHS on 3 separate fish sites wait lists, flip aquatics has blue axelrodi rasboras! Last week I traded spixi snails at my lfs and came home with 4 rosy loaches (I'm going back tomorrow for 2 more), and 6 spotted rasbora. I couldn't help myself though- I've waited too long for these axelrodi! I ordered 6, as well as 6 chilli rasbora- both wish list fish my lfs doesn't have. To score free shipping I added a couple mystery "adoption tank" fish. Just had to share with folks who understand, lol! Anyone have experience with the blue axelrodi rasboras? I'm going to add them to my well established shrimp tank. My strawberry rasbora and spotted rasbora are both doing amazing with shrimp, so I think these guys would too.
  4. They are super shy. I spent a lot of money on a school of them and rarely get a glimps of them in my planted 20 long. It's super sad because they are gorgeous!
  5. I bought a brine shrimp hatchery. I want to feed my apistogramma to encourage them to breed. A little extra would be given to other tanks- honey gourami, endlers, guppy. I dont have a lot of fish to feed BBS, so I only want to hatch a small amount at a time. Is it ok to put a tiny amount of eggs in the hatchery? Would the water/ salt ratio be the same? Also, is regular sea salt ok to use? Or aquarium salt? I have both. Thanks for any help. I'm sure it's simple once you get the hang of it, but I'm feeling intimidated by it right now!
  6. I am a softy too! I get super attached to everyone. I can't just let babies get eaten or toss my wild type shrimp into a tank where they will be eaten. Every one of my aquatic friends is loved! Those are beautiful fish!
  7. I haven't seen him hurt her, just chases her off. Hopefully he will settle down. I have only had them a week tomorrow. They are very cool little fish. They always swim right up to the glass when they see me. 💕
  8. I have my first apistogrammas and I'm just curious if anyone has experience with keeping these guys? I have a male and female macmasteri. The male was chasing the female a lot on day 1, so I added 2 extra hiding places. Originally I had a single apistogramma hut, a planted branch, and the sponge filter as potential hides. The female also goes into my houseplant propagation pot which I didn't plan on, but seems to work really well! Yesterday I didn't see the male and I was concerned by bedtime. I poked around and found him hiding in the apisto hut. Today he's out and was intent to chase the female away from all the food. Is this normal apistogramma behavior? Is there anything else I should add to the tank? More plants? More hides? I want to be sure she gets enough food, and isn't constantly forced to hide out. She's super friendly with me, and adorable! I named him Ignacio because it means fiery one. It definitely fits with his colors and personality! The female is Alba which means white. 🙂 I added a current photo of the tank. Maybe an apisto expert could spot any problems! Thanks for any guidance!
  9. I only have bottom dweller bug bites, but I could look for other types. I have hikari micro wafers and repashy which are both for community tanks. This is the article I was referencing. Do you say bloodworms are bad due to bloat? I usually have dried tubifex and dried and bloodworms on hand, and was interested in trying daphnea with other fish. Would tubifex or daphnea work ok?
  10. I bought a beautiful pair of apistogramma macmasteri today. They are super cute and I am really impressed by their social behavior. Whenever I approach the tank the male swims over to check me out. The female seems friendly as well, but the male chases her away. Anyway, these are my first apistogramma , and I was wondering if anyone has experience with feeding them. I read the co- op article on them and it mentioned bloodworms, black worms, daphnia, brine shrimp etc. Would these foods be ok in their dried or frozen forms? It also mentioned repashy. I have the community one. Is that a good one , or is there one that's better suited to them? Thanks for any help on this adventure!
  11. Definitely not plantlets. I have had those and they show tiny brown roots and leaflets. These rub off and feel kind of hard.
  12. This java fern is in my heavily planted shrimp tank it's a 20 long with plant lights. The plant was growing in java moss. The weird stuff on it was on other leaves, but not as bad. I removed the worst leaves and was able to rub it off the others. It came off in tiny green balls and definitely has to be algae or something because it smells very grass like.

    Endlers

My endlers quickly overwhelmed me! They definately breed nonstop and they don't predate on their fry. I have them all separated now and I gave away two tubs of them! Definately a great fish if you want a successful breeding project, but not for the faint of heart, lol!
  14. I have 3 honey gourami in my 20 gallon tank. There is also a small school of albino cories, 4 kuhli loaches, 1 male guppy and snails. I male keeps making bubble nests and chasing the other male to a corner where he hides. The female doesn't seem interested, and his nests don't stand too much of a chance with the other tankmates. I recently moved my blue dream shrimp from their 10 gallon to a 20 long with strawberry rasboras. The 10 gallon is still running with a sponge filter. I did a water change yesterday and plan to do another to get the sand cleaner today. I was wondering if I move my bubble nester to that tank and let him set up a real good bubble nest, would my female be more likely to spawn with him? I was thinking I could add Mil (my female) once he has set up his nest, them remove her once they spawn so the babies could be raised in the 10 gallon. Has anyone spawned honey gourami? I watched Irene from aquarium co-op do a video on breeding honey gourami and it looks like an interesting project. I'd love to hear success stories and advice from folks who have tried this! Thank you! Picture of my little man and his current nest. 💕
  15. Thanks for sharing this! I have albino cories who aren't old enough to breed yet. I am hoping to get a spawn one day though. They are so cute!
