  1. @nabokovfan87 thanks! These are things I’ve collected over the years. The long hose is from a Python. However I did away with the mechanical piece on the other end because when I moved a) it didn’t fit my faucet, and b) the hose faucet outside kept seizing up from calcium/corrosion, plus I was not as likely to do tank maintenance in inclement weather. And no temp control. You noticed that, eh? Yeah. Summertime in southern U.S. w/ pipes running through the attic. Ice not needed if I do maintenance in the morning, but today I wanted to try out the new gravel vac in the afternoon. One thing not pictured is the digital meat thermometer. I use that to get an instant read on the bucket water: the water that’s being pumped into the tank. I bought the lid prop because the guy who made the blue dispersion piece (which I love so much) sent me a coupon code afterwards, and I wanted to support his small business. You know what works really awesome for keeping a hose from whipping out of a tank*? You probably already have the stuff. A binder clip and a rubber band. As such: The binder clip fits rimmed or rimless tanks and the rubber band is KEY. That is what creates friction against the hose. That hose will NOT slide against that rubber band. No way. The two materials against each other are super grippy. If I’m in more of a hurry, I’ll just dump 2 buckets into the tank and not bust out the pump/hose contraption at all. But I’d use this dispersion doodad instead. I hang this on the side of the tank so it doesn’t move when I pour water into it. The binder clip could also be used to hold it in place. —— *yeah, that happened. More than one occasion.. 😳
  2. Oh and also the fish were very calm. To have a clear tube in there (vs an arm AND a tube) was no big deal for them.
  3. Now I’m the one asking the dumb question. Why bother with the tidal vs another brand of filter? What’s the appeal?
  4. Oh also I was able to easily start the flow with the dip method. The intake was not too long for that.
  5. @Guppysnail @nabokovfan87 I got the Python Small/Tall and I LOVE IT!!!! 😍❤️ The rigid tube is thinner diameter, the flow was not too fast, no wet arm, soft hose so easy to crimp to stop flow, and it went the perfect speed to get the whole tank vac’d. Which is great because tank water gives my arm a rash. 😳 To give you an idea of how great it worked, Pair that with the tank refiller and lid prop, easy peasy maintenance!
  6. Snails will eat the algae off of plants. Are you finding that the plants have been damaged. Also keep in mind that snails need to be fed regularly; they eat more than you think! They cannot be treated as cleanup crew. That's not enough for them to eat/survive.
  7. Bump up that temperature as well. Ich is a cool water disease and can't take the heat. I went to 86 when my tank had ich.
  8. It looks like infusoria, but based on the picture I am not sure if it's a creature, algae, debris, or even fish eggs, perhaps. Does it seem like they are moving on their own or getting pushed around with water flow?
  9. The YouTuber that made the Scarlet Badis video is good at replying to comments as well, in case you run into any other Scarlet Badis questions.
  10. Yep, that works well if there's nothing else in there; no other critters will get sick. Sometimes I do have an issue where the meds (especially salt) kill the bacteria on the filter though.
  11. Here’s today’s test = .5 ammonia. Based on the neon’s last checkup, I decided I’m not going to chase around this nitrogen cycle with all the extra water changes etc, so I moved him out to the snail tank about a week earlier than planned. There’s lots of cover in there; obviously the anacharis are happy in that environment. With no one to bully him, I think he will do ok. Lights off for today. This is what the snail tank looks like now. Most snails were adopted out. Just a few remain and are keepers.
  12. I’m the party pooper here, but where there’s a fruit cutting, there’s fruit flies…
  13. I mean fortunately bare bottom and @TeeJay has a sponge filter so they should be easily found. I had detritus worms in my snail growout too because I was always feeding the snails. They went down into my sand and I don’t even know if they are there anymore. Haven’t seen any in awhile. They didn’t bother anything. They just enjoy snacks and actually are a beneficial cleanup crew if you can get past the fact that they are worms. 🙂
  14. Welp, bound to happen with that much salt. My bacteria is dead. ☠️ Not the first time this has happened to me when doing salt treatments. Haven’t tested in a few days because I’ve been changing water daily to get to the level 2 salt, which has now been accomplished. I figure, if I’m going to change the water anyway, why test? If a test shows something bad, I would do what? Water change. LOL. Anyway.. Unplanned water change today due to the reading. w/ Prime dosed for whole tank volume + Fritz Zyme 7. Will be testing each morning now to see how we’re doing. Afterwards, offered a flake to the fishy but he refused it. 🫤
  15. Isn’t the basket just there for convenience of maintenance? My Penguin doesn’t have any basket.
  16. If there is a sick one, I honestly can’t tell which one. I don’t notice any symptoms.
  17. Ah yes, I’ve seen this one. I do vac it sometimes, not every time but when it gets the line.
  18. This trip is 6 months, but I am not sure how much of that is driving and how much is stationary.
