A bit. Why??

Try to glue some on a rock and see how that does for you. How they interact with it. 🙂

I usually cut it about 1/8-1/4" long and just let it grow.

Fuzzy puppy bath time photos from a year ago. 😂 Saw It when I was looking for an old tank shot for that new years thread. Had to share!

Have you seasoned the filter or added bottled bacteria?

Been in use as a power head in my 20 gal eyesore for the past week. Got an order of plants arriving for it on Monday!

Also added 1 male Palaeatus Cory and 1 female to the breeding tank today, along with a piece of Java moss attached to a rock ( @nabokovfan87) hopefully something happens!
In the meantime I’m conditioning the Emepror tetras with BBS and frozen bloodworms…as a Plan B.

We have a spawn! A bit small, but it’s better than nothing…here’s a rundown:2137EE3F-16B9-46EB-8076-659940855287.jpeg.d696d1be66b7e4b7033195d6d4ee8873.jpeg4AC8E1CE-7E42-4705-88FA-0E0379C4324F.jpeg.cb1c390a27840a3fbc90a53a99492e1f.jpeg

I got home from school, then started the process of taking down the spawning tank. First I removed the Coconut hut 🥥 🛖 and the filter, along with the fish.
I checked the décorations for eggs, and found 3 on a rock. Checked the Java moss, found 1, and also found 1 in the mountain of spawning mops I had put in.

I then made an egg tumbler with an old Nutella pot and a screw driver: A3FA399F-F6D3-49BB-8B7A-0126EC0EAD43.jpeg.29ca19f226612b9888b5ae3105b3fded.jpeg46A32D82-0925-447A-8A74-6BB32B32EE2C.jpeg.1826585715fdae90876b8e2243f68c7a.jpeg

My hypothesis on why there were so little eggs is that the parents were in the tank for too long and ate what they spawned.

Shame!🤷‍♂️

On a bright note, it snowed again. ❄️ B36C1E6F-DC2E-427C-AACC-DF872FDD358C.jpeg.bfb33f64bb7bebb6694cf3c60cb10853.jpeg

I’m now wondering what I can breed next in the tank…Zebra Danios???

My LFC realeased a list of fish/ plants which will be present at their annual fish club: here’s the link and please comment if there are any cool things!😁 http://www.decoulon.ch/Bourse/Liste_poissons_et_plantes_2023.pdf

You should get some of these....!
Caridina Cantonensis «Pure Red line»
Caridina cf. cantonensis «Crystal Red»
Neocaridina davidi «Red Sakura»
Neocaridina davidi blue velvet
Neocaridina davidi red cherry
Neocaridina davidi blue tiger

I would check out the red Sakura and see what they look like.  Should sell well if you have a shop to do so at.

I do have a shop to sell them at, but I don’t have a tank to spare for some colony breeding of them. Might put some in with my Endlers & White Clouds though…especially the blue dream ones, as their retail price is 20 bucks over here.😳

Depending what water you have... I'd be eyeballing the "pure red" caradina or the Sakura Neo's in addition to the quality and pattern on the blue velvet and blue tigers.  Blue tiger has to be insanely rare.

See the thing is here in Maryland it’s not like we don’t get snow, we used to get a lot (thanks climate change)

I’ll make sure to take lots of pics at the swap, last year someone brought an entire horde of L134s!

Final thing: I picked up this dug-up plant stem near a local pond about 1 week ago (it was floating in the water), planted it in my 63 gal, and hey presto! It’s doing quite well!😊517A9454-7635-4203-9147-D2B73B79D149.jpeg.d02e105024734aa9efb5724c788e351f.jpeg

Speaking of sharks, I have to do a presentation on sharks for marine bio, for some reason my teacher (fully knowing they aren’t sharks) are allowing me to do “freshwater” sharks (the cyprinids not true freshwater sharks)

If you would like a fun / interesting shark to learn about by all means I can send you one to research!  That is really awesome that your professor / teacher is letting you skew the line a bit.  Some teachers just sense passion and know the results in the work will translate well there.

It's an interesting species because most of them in the wild aren't around, maybe they are, maybe they aren't....  Which is an interesting point to research.

Quote

The species is endemic to Thailand, and was described by Hugh M. Smith in 1931 as being 'not uncommon in Bueng Boraphet and the streams which lead from it, and as being found in the Chao Phraya River as far south as Bangkok.[2] A 1934 expedition reported catching a specimen in the Silom canal.[3] As of 2011 it is only known at a single location in the Chao Phraya basin and has Critically Endangered status on the IUCN Red List.[1] From 1996 until 2011 it was believed to be extinct in the wild. There is no evidence that collection for the aquarium trade is responsible for the species' decline, and it is more likely that the construction of dams and draining of swamps that took place during the 1970s was to blame.[4]

Here's a great article as well, I'll toss it in that other thread, but it has some great information and sketches.

I remember seeing that the Chao Phraya river is teeming with RTBS, rainbow sharks, and alike. Snorkeling must be fun. 😁

Have you ever gone to Gillbach river up near Dusseldorf? The river with all the guppies.

I know it's a different country but I feel like as a fish nerd that would be a cool thing to go see

The Guppybach? It’s on my bucket list! The underwater shots on YouTube look really cool, and it’s surprising how nature can take hold of a place so quickly. For those who’ve never heard of it: it’s a creek located next to a power plant (keeps the water hot enough) filled with guppies, cherry shrimp & Java moss. 😄

Maybe it can be a graduation present

I know if I ever end up going to Germany I'm going to find a way to work that into the trip. And that was before I just found out that it has cherry shrimp and Java moss!
