  1. It's going to be fine. During the Texas freeze this past February I had no power for a 24 hours and my gas heater has never worked. My tanks got down to high 50s with no issues. I did warms water changes and used a cup to pour water back into the aquarium and keep movement over the filters.
  2. I would figure that the freezing winters in Idaho would kill off the tropical snails.
  3. When I bought mine I happened be driving through Temple Texas and saw a reddit post and messaged the seller. So I'm not exactly sure what the specific water parameters were. However Texas generally has hard high PH water. I didn't lose a single shrimp though.
  4. This past week I did the blasting sand myself for the first time. I only did enough for a 10g with a 5g bucket. It took a long time to get it clear. You really have to get the fine particles kicked up into the water column.
  5. Your shrimp will do fine in the PH and will appreciate the hardness. I keep my blue cherry shrimp in nearly the exact same water parameters.
  6. Try soaking it in hot water. It likely has dried out ferts blocking it up.
  7. Just follow the KISS principle. Keep it simple, don't let the Google searches get you overwhelmed.
  8. Inglorious Bettas setup heating tape under her jars.
  9. Are your tetras nippers? I've had mystery snails that only came out at night when they were with more aggressive stock. I've also had them do that just because.
  10. @Atitagain @Coryhas a great video from a while ago that has most of the information you need.
  11. @Mikeo how was the flex in the shelves? I found mine had about a 1/2 in dip with only 2 10g that were 1/2 full. I didn't take a chance and bought 3/4 plywood shelves and have no flex.
  12. I love those old hex tanks. Make aye your Otto's are eating they can be challenging.
  13. I welded the upper and lower portion of the uprights together so now I can move the center shelf where I want it. 2 10 gallon on the upper rack and a 20 long on the lower with the very top and bottom for storage. Walmart sells an under sink liner I'll be using to help protect the MDF from drips and spills.
  14. Are the shelves MDF? How thick are they? What secures the upper and lower uprights together? Sorry for all the questions, I bought the project source 24x48 rack this past weekend. It's also rated at 800lbs per shelf. However the uprights are only held together by the rivets on the load bar. So I can't move the shelves to get the viewing heights where I want them. Also the MDF shelfs are only 1/4" to 3/8" thick. Seems very thin and I am worried about sagging and bending.
  15. You can add a lot more fish, just don't to it all at once. A few per week or 2. A Neon/Cardinal tetra school would give a few different colors green green or black neons would look nice too.
  16. I've found them to be so-so. They are great at being silent and easy to use because they fit anywhere and run for 24+ hours off my battery bank. However the longevity has been somewhat of an issue. The pump will randomly not be working and I have to give it a good smack to get it working again for a couple of weeks. Two or three times and the pump will be completely dead.
  17. I'm planting a crypt up front where the three stones are and dwarf hair grass along the right side. I can also easily swap to a 15 or 20l.
  18. Does anybody have experience with these 2 as tank mates? I have a 10g with yellow fin White Clouds and Scarlet Badis and want to add a couple of Pygmy Sunfish. What are your thoughts?
  19. I found this article earlier this week about nutritional value and post hatch time. I was going to make a thread about it, decided not to. Perhaps I should have.
  20. What temperature do you hatch at? I had low hatch rates and/or had to extend the hatch time to 48 hrs untill I added a heater at 80°.
  21. Just swap the sponge. It's only a small part of where the BB live.
  22. I second the white clouds. Also most Danios will occupy the top of the water column.
  23. You'll likely be fine. I turn off my canister when I feed BBS. A month or 2 ago I forgot to turn it back on and didn't notice untill the following evening. I plugged it back in and never noticed a difference.
