  1. 55g and 29g are about the same height so the settings should be fine. It is more about intensity at the depth of the aquarium. I'm not sure what plants you have, but mine are all low to medium requirement types.
  2. This is my quarantine tank. It is a 20 long. The breeder box is there cause it would not hang properly on my big aquarium. The fry was not planned for. I just found babies and wanted to try and raise them. Lol.
  3. I'll have to run out tomorrow and get fungal med. I have live plants that are sensitive to the salt.
  4. Sorry. I do not mean drive way salt. It is food grade coarse non idonized salt. The kind you use for like ice cream making. Thank you.
  5. I don't have a nearby store with fish meds. I do have API general cure. I also have rock salt, but no aquarium salt.
  6. I bought 4 oto cats a little over 2 weeks ago. Have been looking for them for months, lol. I noticed the largest one has this grey patch on his head. I had not noticed before. All are eating well, especially this one. It is the plumpist of all of them. All are active. They currently have no tank mates except for 6 dwarf neon rainbow fry in a breeder box.
  7. I have rinsed them under tap water, crush their shells, and my rainbow fish gobble them up.
  8. Oh. I was thinking of feeding them to my tank of rainbowfish, tetras. I have not yet added fish to the new tank. Just thought my omnivores might like a tasty treat, but they would need them shelled, lol.
  9. Received some new plants and they had some hitchhikers, bladder snails. These are in my new, still cycling tank. I have been removing and squishing. But thought, would these be ok as a tasty treat for my fish in my established tank? Can they get parasites from eating these? I would squish them first, so not live.
  10. I'm glad I seen this. I just bought one as well and would have not read the instructions 🙃. Now I most definitely will!
  11. I just started into planted aquariums as well and have found this forum after hearing Cory mention it on a video. So glad to have this community for the support and expertise!
  12. Thank you. I'm excited as well. I wanna know what those big eyeballs belong to!
  13. Thank you. I turned off my HOB as it does not yet have an intake sponge, but left my sponge filter running. This tank was just set up and really have not cycled yet. I have added yuck water from the older tank and some used media. And it has anubias, java moss, floating plants (sivinia minima and duckweed) and a stemmed plant that I am unsure of. I was mostly worried about the tank not being established as well.
  14. So I was doing a water change Saturday night and noticed 3 small fry. It was after 10pm, so no where to go to get a breeder basket. Went out the next morning and purchased, but the fry were gone, guessing tasty snacks. HOWEVER, I was using the water I removed to partially fill my new tank (all the siphoned yuck from the sand, decor, and plants). Today, I was adding fertilizer and a pinch of food to the new tank and noticed 2 fry! Questions! 1.) is aquarium co op fry food ok, I crushed it in a morter and pedestal to make even finer. 2.) Do I need to put them in a breeder basket or let them have the run of the new tank as there are no other fish, just plants. 3.) Or add them back to the original cycled tank in the breeder basket. I added squeeze out from my intake sponge in my established tank to the new tank. I have no idea what they are. I have glowlight tetra, dwarf neon rainbow fish, and sterabi corydora. Thank you for any insight! First pic is one of the found babies, 2nd is of the original ones I found in main tank.
  15. I think of my aquarium as both. I'm a plant and fish nut. Always have been! Actually, I'm a animal nut. My plants outside and inside and now in my aquarium are precious to me, but they are also an artful expression and a relaxation method for me. My aquariums are the same. I love my fish and can watch them interact with each other and the plants fir hours on end, but the eco system is art to me as well. As for being an animal nut, I have horses, dogs, my son has a guinea pig and we now have 2 aquariums (1 is still cycling) and a large pond stocked with bluegill, 3 types of bass, catfish, grass carp, and turtles. And more plants, trees and flowers in and around the pond. I may have a problem!
  16. My dwarf neon rainbowfish are not shy either. They greet me when I enter the room. I love watching then zip around. I have 2 males and 4 females.
  17. I just set up a 20 long as well. I am thinking shrimp and guppies or endlers.
  18. I think 8-10 glowlights and 1 betta would be fine. Glowlights are pretty speedy and get kinda good sized. If yours are small, maybe let them fatten up before adding the betta. Mine were in for a few weeks before I added any other fish.
  19. My fish do the same. If I give flake they will eat their fill, but allow it to fall. If I feed frozen, they will gobble til they literally look ready to burst! They get frozen once every other day. They get flake small amounts twice daily. Live and frozen is good for enticing breeding in many species.
  20. I love my little dwarf neon rainbowfish. I also have a school of the cheap glowlight tetra. Really nice red/silverish against a planted background. And I too have a school of sterabi corydora.
  21. Me too. My hubby says I have a problem. I stay up late (even on work nights) watching videos and reading up on aquariums, plants, fish.
  22. I bought my drawf neon rainbow fish from a LFS. I purposely bought 2 males (red fins) and 4 females (yellow fins) striving to have a more balanced group. The 2 males dance and flare for the females and get a "breeding stripe" of yellow on their backs. This morning, I noticed one of the yellow tailed "females" dancing and has a "breeding stripe" as well. Do the females get this as they mature? Or is a male in female colors? Thank you for any advice!
