  1. Hi- I have kept and raised these guys for about 3 years now and don't keep them in anything larger than a 20 gallon. You could easily put a pair in a 10 gallon, but I don't know that I'd go smaller than that.
  2. You got a pretty good photo for an identifier here. It is a Melanoides tuberculata or what was sold to you as a Malaysian Trumpet snail. There are several different species and varieties of MTS, some larger some smaller. The photo you took shows the snails pallial tentacles, which are those weird finger like projections above it's head. The pallial tentacles are a part of an MTS respiratory system. Nice photo!
  3. I pull eggs from a spawning mop in my 75 gallon tank and use german breeding rings to hatch and raise them. I feed sera micron for tiny fry, vinegar eels, and baby brine shrimp once they're old enough.
  4. Some Yoshi bonding/training time... he's a good boy 🙂
  5. They look more like the Galaxy Pearl variety that I am growing out right now. I have platinums as well, there is a distinct difference in color between the two. Here are a few photos of my platinums.
  6. I've had 1 especially aggressive female who could not get along with anyone in the tank. She charged at any fish that got close to her. I moved her from my peaceful 55g to my 75G South and Central American cichlid tank and she fits right in. The rest of my BN plecos have been incredibly peaceful.
  7. I only have 1 tank scarlet temple has ever really done well in, and it's my 69-70 degree unfiltered walstad. It is the lowest tech tank I have. I have ridiculously hard water, but it still does well. It loves the dirt.
  8. Bagged up some various Endlers, Guppies, Shrimp, Snails, Ricefish and Bristlenose plecos and delivered to the LFS today. Left with $200 and a baby Flowerhorn 🤦🏻‍♀️😳
  9. It has always been my experience that the presence of a horizontal stripe usually signifies a hybrid. I have raised these guys for awhile now and never had any with horizontal stripes, and I've got some pretty big boys.
  10. For the most part, the Goodeids don't predate on fry terribly. At first they are weak and not able to swim, I assume the wiggling makes them look more like food. Once they are free swimming and look and act more like fish, I don't notice issues with predation. Generally if they make it past the first few hours, they do fine.
  11. They're prolific and sassy little buggers. Of all the Goodeids Xenotoca doadrioi so far have been my favorite. Zoogoneticus tequilas come in a close second. That dark smokey gray color the males get is fabulous. I am trying Ameca splendens outdoors this year and so far, they have done well. I'd love to get my hands on some Skiffia multipunctata and Xenotoca variata at some point.
  12. I suppose my other option is an fx4 or fx6 next to the tank. I can build a box around it with a cabinet that matches the stand and it can double as a plant stand. 🤔 is an fx6 overkill for a 125?
  13. I'm searching for a canister than can handle a 125 gallon and only requires about 12" clearance. Is there such a thing? I'd hate to go HOB on a 125, but I will if I have to.
  14. I just noticed your Guppy grass was in a tank full of tiny EBAs 😍 By far one of the cutest baby fish I've ever seen.
  15. Wish I had a LFS that would take Guppy Grass to distribute around here. I toss it out by the bucket loads. Beautiful plant, but such a weed.
  16. Beautiful! I left my Whiteclouds in 40 breeders in the basement this year with my Dojos and did CPDs, Ricefish and shrimp in tubs this year. I missed seeing my Whiteclouds outdoors though. They are always so outgoing and happy outside 🙂
  17. About a year and a half or so. His teeth grew very quick when he wasn't grinding it down on rocks, no matter how many snails he ate. To encourage them to grind on rocks, you can spread some repashy on it for them to eat. Sometimes it takes awhile to get then to eat the repashy, but once they figure out it's food, spreading it on the rocks is a good way to get them to figure out that they can grind their own teeth down.
  18. I just had 2 wisdom teeth extracted and can't eat solid food 😂 Such bad timing for me. 🌮🌮🌮
  19. I have had to trim mine a couple of times when he was younger. Eventually, he figured out how to file his own and now uses rocks in the tank as well as snails to keep them down himself. I have a large Seiyru stone in there that he prefers to grind his teeth on. You get lucky with some of them.
  20. I have decided to keep the stand and just change it up a bit. I got the tank all cleaned out and started painting some of the stand a bit. I'll be painting the back black in this tank tomorrow and finish painting and update 🙂 Hopefully it turns out well.
  21. The stand is 38" tall. I was going to use a canister filter with this tank but with the way the stand is built, there's nowhere to put one.
  22. I will have to check when I get home, but it is definitely taller than any other non-rack type stands I have. It seemed like an issue at first, but then I kind of liked the way it looked higher up. I will also have to get on a step stool to work in the tank, but I don't really mind. I don't have to do much inside the tank they are in now so I don't think it will be an issue. These are the lucky new residents of the 125.
  23. I keep thinking maybe it could grow on me. I'd normally just build one, but lumber is ridiculous and this just works right now. I think maybe I can build a canopy that kind of matches and it would be easier for me to like it. I'm excited for this project and my cichlids would sure love the extra 2 feet of swimming space 🙂
  24. I've been here for quite awhile and have finally decided to start a journal on an aquarium project. I was finally able to find a 125 gallon tank semi-local (they are very hard to track down around here) and picked it up yesterday. It is pretty much bare bones tank and stand, no hood/lights/filter etc. So it's going to be a fun journey. This stand would not be my first choice by any means. I'm still not sure how I feel about it, but it's heavy and in my house now so I may be stuck with it. Here is the new/old tank. I'm starting the clean out process today to get rid of the rest of the gravel and whatever else is left in it. I think if I keep updating on this journal it will encourage me to work a little harder and faster to get this thing up and running. 🤞
