  1. Sorry to hear about your dying cherry tree. ☹️🌸 At this point, it may be time to bring in a professional arborist. Diagnosing what's wrong requires examining the trunk, branches, and bark for clues. And try to remember their history. How old are the trees? When were they planted? Younger or newly planted trees are less resilient than mature or established ones. Are they planted in a sheltered spot? What else is planted around them? Do they get watered with long, deep soakings? (Not just from sprinklers.) Did the branches die off in one season? Over the course of a few years? Did branches start dying after getting pruned? In addition to the diseases mentioned by @Brandy, trees may also succumb to insects if they are weakened by stress or disease. And freezing, yes. For the past few seasons, we have been experienced extreme temperature swings in late winter/early spring, and this has been very hard on my trees, even the mature ones. Another culprit could be ground disturbance. Even shallow landscaping or digging around the tree can shock the roots, or expose them to drying or freezing.
  2. Someday, I will actually remember to post on Sunday! 😁 2-for-1 snail-and-shrimp combos.
  3. @MAC 💜 ORD Ah, I miss the ocean! Oregon Coast Highway?
  4. If you like Nichijō's the quirky combination of slice-of-life plus fantasy/sci-fi, here are few suggestions. You did not mention how old she is. So, you may want to preview a couple of episodes to determine if a series is age-/content-appropriate for your sister. BTW, use the links to see plot summaries, reviews, and voice cast: Natsume's Book of Friends ← #1 in my list of personal favorites! Polar Bear's Cafe Gingitsune Fruits Basket Flying Witch Arakawa Under the Bridge Assassination Classroom Ge Ge Ge no Kitarō We Rent Tsukogami For traditional tales, this is an excellent series: Folktales from Japan. 👹 Natsume's Book of Friends 夏目友人帳「Natsume Yūjinchō」 English subtitled or dubbed versions are available. 😎
  5. Oh no, my condolences! Well, we've all been there. 👼 Very nice looking crypts, btw.
  6. @Jungle Fan — Jules Verne, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
  7. I will report on how well the snails like their gourmet fare, haha! 🥗
  8. Snail food prep The mix on the left is for the fish (Drosophila hydei larvae and pupae). The mix on the right is for the snails. Both mixes use Repashy Super Green. I also made Repashy banana leaves for the snails. Banana leaves make a great base because they are tough and won't fall apart, even after sitting for days at the bottom of the aquarium. First, rehydrate dried banana leaves by soaking them in boiling water. This softens the leaves and helps the Repashy stick better. Mix Repashy and boiling water in a small skillet. Keeping the Repashy warm over very low heat, coat both sides of each leaf. Set the leaf onto a baking sheet to cool and set. (Please forgive the shaky video. Holding the phone steady with one hand and coating the leaves with the other was trickier than I expected. 😁) Place the baking sheet with coated leaves in the oven. Set the oven to the lowest heat setting and keep the door slightly ajar. Turn the leaves over to ensure both sides dry out. Cool to room temperature. Make sure the leaves are completely dry! Store in an airtight container.
  9. Ah, so this brings up more questions...🤔 A T10 bulb? All that tells you is the shape and size of the bulb, not how much light it puts out. T10 bulbs come in a variety of wattages, from 6W to 60W. How many watts (power), or better yet, the lumens (brightness), is the bulb rated? Is it an LED bulb? Or is it an incandescent or fluorescent bulb? A 4 W LED bulb draws only 4 W of power, but is nearly as bright as a 40 W incandescent or fluorescent bulb. The LED bulb product description, usually printed on the box, should specify what would be the equivalent wattage incandescent or fluorescent bulb. One source recommends for Java Ferns, using "1.5/2 watts of light for each gallon in your tank." For example, a 10-gallon tank should be lit with a bulb rated as the equivalent of a 15W-20W incandescent or fluorescent bulb. In your photo, the tank looks like it is in pretty bright room. Is this the case, or is it just bright for the photo? You may need block out the light coming in from the sides and top, in addition to what is coming from the bulb. Lastly, floating plants will provide shade. But don't forget that it could take weeks before they grow thickly enough to filter out enough light to make a difference. And floating plants will only screen light coming from the top. Let us know what you do! 😎
  10. The boys tell me that spring is in the air!
  11. A solution necessitated by my granny-vision, combined with a stubborn determination to collect quantifiable data. 🤓
  12. Among my freelance gigs, I have been a summer-school teacher, mostly youth education. And I have been a digital content creator for nearly 20 years (I think?), so I have been using Adobe software for long time. For videos, I use Premiere Pro. For audio clips, I use Audition. I use the Creative Cloud suite because it is a deductible business expense. 😊 I would suggest, if you are just starting out with image editing software, to try something easier to use and m-u-c-h cheaper. I found this article of "The 13 best Photoshop alternatives," that describes each software app so you can decide which one suits you best. Please note, I have not personally used any of these. I am only offering this list to give you some ideas of what is out there. As you can see from just this article, there are lots of options to choose from. 🤠 N.O. 🤣
  13. @Koi Okey dokey. This is what I meant. I hope this isn't horribly confusing? 🤪 copy test strip from original photo paste test strip into a new transparent layer trim away extra background. Resize, if needed. drag test strip over the color chart and between the closest two color boxes.
  14. You certainly make the forum a fun place for me to hang out as well! 🤩Congrats! 🎉
  15. I believe Java Ferns are happiest in low light conditions. Your tank looks very bright. What sort of lighting are you using? Here is a snippet from the Aquarium Co-Op Java Fern Care Guide:
  16. Oops, my bad. I meant API Ammonia Test. Sorry about that! 🤪 Also, after posting the photos, I thought of an even simpler Photoshop solution. Copy just the test strip into a new, transparent layer. Trim off any background so only the test strip is visible. Then drag the test strip over the color chart and move it around, comparing the test strip to the blocks in the color chart. I have to run, but I will post photos of what I mean. Just wanted to address you questions! 😎
