  1. I have 2 of the 36" ALC and 1 of the 30" HLC They seem to be working fine for me. I run them on the default/max 24/7 cycle
  2. Lucas or LRB Aquatics on youtube uses ground/tree moss in some of his tanks. Not sure which videos, he has a lot, but maybe ask him in one of his livestreams.
  3. You could use a multi valve manifold instead of running a pvc loop. It would work but not as consistent pressure as a loop
  4. I would say the best option may getting 2 of the 36" finnex 24/7 or fluval 3.0 models
  5. I have had success using ASI Aquarium silicone. It is available on amazon in black or clear, rated for use in aquariums, fish safe. I havent used the ge1 since they changed the packaging a year or more ago. When I did use it, it wasnt for seams that hold aquarium pressure. I figure why risk it for a small cost savings. With the ASI it says right on the package "tested to withstand constant stress on aquariums up to 750 gallons"
  6. Is this effective on chloramine as well?
  7. @SevI have some. I bought a small group from one of my local fish club auctions. TBAS, Tampa Bay FL
  8. Great idea. I do rinse but may be worth mixing in this method for heavy bbs feeding times of the year.
  9. Would be a good idea to get a prefilter for the filter intake tube. Stop the free swimmers from getting sucked in.
  10. Just curious on what price they were asking at the show? I saw the booth and the filters but didn't think to ask about pricing.
  11. The thermostatic mixing valves can be compared to a preset shower valve. Room/pipe/ground temp water has to flow through the valve before heated water from either type of heater can replace it and be mixed. I think they are designed more for overtemp and antiscald protection. The preset is the max allowed temp which is why its so challenging to find one with a temperature range low enough to be fishroom worthy.
  12. @813aquatics nice haul, lots of swag. The rolling cooler I bring with me to fish swaps/meetings is decorated with many of the same stickers. Got a few new ones this year to add to it. @clovenpine I agree, Cory and crew did a great job. I wish I could have made the members meet up at 7. I had to leave around 5. @Brandon p I would definitely recommend checking out the next one, especially being local.
  13. Orlando event was great. Seemed like a bigger turnout than last year. I live in the Tampa Bay area and it was really cool to see several of my local fish club members running their own booths this time around. @Cory @Zenzo The co-op booth and crew was great. That mountain of shirts, free to all attendees, was impressive. The member sweatpants even cooler. Thank you for your time and advice. I will be looking into a magnetic option as you suggested. -s1
  14. They are the same valves and hose. Almost all parts interchange. The main difference is pump size and the fx6 having one more of the same media trays.
  15. I think the plywood options you described would work fine. Thicker would be better 1/2" is prob the thinnest I would use.
  16. I just wipe them down with wet paper towels. In the video you referenced I think Dean said he used the basic type of Dawn dish soap. If you rinse it until there are no more soap bubbles I think you should be safe for fish.
  17. I recently cleaned sponges for 6 fluval fx6 filters in my washing machine, I ran them with hot water and didnt use any detergent. It worked surprisingly well.
  18. I have good luck using lifegard aquatics 1" double threaded I like the threaded option better than slip, and for some reason they are often cheaper as well.
  19. 2x3 should be fine, the pictured stand is serious overkill
  20. depending on which pane of glass the scratch is on and if the tank is drilled the easiest thing may be rotating the tank to put the scratch on the background side.
  21. I think the tuff stuff 110 gallon stock tanks are the best for the money
  22. Washed all the sponges/media pads in my washing machine with no detergent after running a sterilization cycle empty. It worked amazing. They came out really clean and mostly dry. Saved a lot of time for sure.
  23. As expected the eggs hatch rate was pretty bad. I would estimate about 5% Still amazing that some hatched after spending 20+ years in stored in non ideal conditions as an egg
