  1. I only have 3* 20g talls in my collection. They usually hold breeding pairs of angels. Bare bottom setups oriented with the skinny side out. The filtration is a mattenfilter sponge wall on the far side.
  2. I have a multi colony in a 20 long. I think you made a good choice.
  3. post a picture of the excess silicone in question
  4. I have a 55ah lifepo4 battery in my truck that was used for my solar powered fridge/freezer. In my opinion lithium iron phosphate is the best battery when you factor weight, and depth of discharge to its rated capacity. I will likely tear down that project and integrate into my linear piston automatic battery backup. At the least replace the lead acid battery with the lifepo4 I run on wall power and charge/maintain the battery with a charger but it would be fun to have a totally off grid central air pump using the MPPT some panels and the lifepo4. There may be an update to that post in the future!
  5. You just have to make sure they output a pure sinewave. Its crucial to the linear pumps design.
  6. The aquarium co-op sells an air pump that has built in automatic change over to battery backup power. https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/air-pumps/products/aquarium-co-op-air-pump
  7. I built my own battery backup. It is in standby 24/7 with auto change over. It outputs clean sinewave power and can run the linear piston air pumps. The battery bank and inverter can be scaled up for higher loads or higher runtime. It can be adapted to solar for near infinite run time without wall power.
  8. you can try the breeder box first and see how the eggs do. depending on your water it may work without antifungal treatments If they fungus over then I recommend putting them in a separate container with methylene blue and an airstone. Transfer them to the ziss box once they are wiggling if you want to use the egg tumbler I think the hardest part will be removing the eggs without damaging them
  9. I made a post a little while back where I used that pdf as a reference to make a text document. I also included marineland / perfecto
  10. Replace it and use the tank outside or somewhere you don't care about it leaking.
  11. what model canister? I have used this 1" pond tubing for some of my fx4 and fx6 filters. Its super cheap and very flexible.
  12. What size tank and how thick is the glass? I think with enough of a footprint to spread out the load you will be fine. Especially if its on top of the UGF. In my heavy hardscape cichlid tanks many years ago I would buy egg crate light diffuser and put it across the bottom of the entire tank to spread out any point load caused by rock structures.
  13. this is worth reading https://angelsplus.com/pages/how-to-breed-angelfish
  14. mosquitofish are crazy things, I had about 40 in a wild caught 10 gallon "thunderdome"
  15. What type/size fish? What size tank? For wild collecting I made my own holding container out of this 5 gallon bucket with a screw on lid and a battery powered bait aerator I drilled a hole the same size as the airline tubing right in the center of the lid. This setup works well in situations where you dont have power. But can also work in your scenario depending on fish size/quantity, may just have to change the batteries when they die. You can easily substitute a co-op nano air pump you will just need a usb battery bank to use it in the field. In a car you have options for source of power. The easiest set and forget may be the newer model co-op usb pump plugged into a 12v USB car charger. It will run and self charge its internal battery while the car is on, and will change over to battery when the car is off. Since this pump comes with USB as its standard input this is a really elegant solution and the one I recommend. You get to use the pump after the trip with the same benefits on wall power. A more expensive option is a 12v dc inverter that makes 120v ac "wall power" letting you plug in air pumps powerheads and maybe even filters you already own. It will turn off when the car is not powering the port. The one I linked actually output clean enough power to run my linear piston central air pump. You have to be careful not to overload the cigarette lighter circuit or overwork your alternator. Dont need more things to worry about on a long trip. The heater even in a small wattage will likely not be possible. So best to control the climate inside the car and use an insulated container such as a cooler. If you use sponge filters I would use them in place of the airstones. Keep the bacteria alive and doing its job during the trip.
  16. Off topic but I have had decent results using a belt sander with water to shave down lids that almost fit. Takes a while and you have to take breaks to wet the glass to prevent it from getting too hot. But does work for controlled removal.
  17. duct tape probably the best option.
  18. I think this blog article from Angels Plus is worth checking out. How to breed angelfish
  19. Replace the T fitting in your picture with this 4-Way Metal Gang Valve and adjust the levers until flow is equal. You can turn off the extra unused ports by closing the valves.
  20. Finnex 24/7 ALC or HLC. Set on 24/7 and forget the timers. Half the price of the Fluval 3.0 and does not need bluetooth or an app to sync after a power outage. If you want an ultimate budget friendly no feature light you can get the aquaneat led. I bought a 25 pack of the 10k fowlr version direct from their site. They sell "full spectrum" versions on amazon for more money. They are so cheap you can just keep adding them if you need more light. I have all 5 of these lights currently in use.
  21. I buy them from my LFS when I sell them fish.
