  1. Convict cichlid. Just add water and enjoy the show.
  2. Cool build and write up. I mess with those trays when shopping sometimes. Thinking of fish related ways to use them.
  3. The cysts were actually protected from the rust in a glass jar
  4. Facebook market. I upgraded my 2 fx4 and 1 fx5 last night to fx6s. Thinking about possibly putting the fx4s on my 40b pleco tanks
  5. I bought a bunch of fishroom supplies from a breeder getting out of the hobby earlier today. While going through the storage containers of stuff I found an old can of brine shrimp eggs. It looked to have been stored at fish room temperature or higher for many years. The can was pretty rusted and the eggs were actually sealed in a glass mason jar inside the coffee style can. Some were clumped and not in the greatest condition. The brand is Sanders, which I looked up is still selling brine shrimp and has the same phone number and address as listed on the can. The can has a copyright with the year 1996 and is pretty aged looking. I have not seen this brand at my local supplier. Anyway I thought it would be a fun experiment to make a batch using these eggs. Will report back with results if anything hatches.
  6. Cleaning begins. The leaning tower of fx trays
  7. Thought the picture was cool so I decided to share. 8 feet of fluval filters lol. Bought a gast regenerative blower and an insane amount of fluval fx6 filters and several boxes of misc fishroom supplies today. Flowerhorn breeder shut down his fishroom. He was running fx6 on 40 breeders. 😀 Will most likely upgrade my tanks that run an fx4 to an fx6 and keep a a backup. Then sell the fx4s and the remaining fx6s locally or at club meets.
  8. I have used this OLFA Square Razor blade several times for resealing tanks. It in my opinion is the best for silicone removal without digging into the corner/seal. When the blade is brand new it is also excellent at removal of residue, it comes off in thin sheets. I think its exclusive to Lowes.
  9. Sounds like a nice tank for an epic planted shrimp colony setup
  10. Did the store give you adult brine shrimp or newly hatched baby brine shrimp? The ziss hatchery is ideal for daily hatching of tiny baby brine shrimp.
  11. Here is a spreadsheet I made a while back. It lists common tank sizes seems relevant and could be a useful reference in this thread.
  12. I buy the big bucket of sera discus granules. I store it in my chest freezer and fill and feed out of these 16oz squeeze bottles which is stored at room temp near the tanks. I cut the tip so the hole is much bigger. I feed this food to pretty much every tank. I see it as a higher quality staple than tetra tropical granules, a food that LRB feeds to pretty much his entire fishroom with much success. I have even put this food into a pepper grinder to make fry powder out of it. I have been looking into buying a vacuum sealer to seal up smaller portions of this food and aquamax. Any suggestions on brand or type?
  13. It should be strong enough without a vertical center support but I would add a 2x4 front to back in the center span under the plywood just because. To add depth you can add a piece of 3/4" plywood that cantilevers over the extra 2" I have seen people with tanks up to 20 gallon longs have the end of the tank extend past their shelving a couple inches with no issue. I personally like to support the perimeter of the tank.
  14. I like those fluval flex tanks. Maybe some tall flowing vallisneria across the back.
  15. I started my colony in a 40b with 7 Multifasciatus that subbornly took 6 months before my first batch of fry. Eventually they formed 3 small groups that bred. The tank was sand bottom with many escargot shells. I quickly found getting any fry to sell out of the tank was nearly impossible and the breeding never really took off like I expected. A good tip I got from Andres from BioAquatix was to separate out a proven pairs 1 male 1 female to their own tanks. It seems counter to the common way of colony breeding them. But made sense there will be no predation or threats and they will start their own colonies a lot faster when they have the tank to themselves. You can provide limited caves using pvc elbows with a cap on one end. Bare bottom. After selling some off and rotating the stock in my tanks. I now house whats left of the original colony in a 20 long with aragonite bottom and escargot shells. Its about 15 fish.
  16. Is the pair of angels in their own tank or did they lay in a community setting? If they are in their own tank you can leave them to tend to it and see if they will parent raise. If you dont want to take the chance or they are in a community tank you can remove the leaf with the eggs on it and put it in a container with air and methylene blue. This is a pretty good write up https://angelsplus.com/pages/how-to-breed-angelfish If you dont have another tank I suggest using the ziss breeder box to seperate/hatch/raise the fry

  18. There is a club that just met last Thursday in Venice. It was small group but had a good speaker Andres from BioAquatix. FatherFish from youtube was the auctioneer and also serves in some management capacity in the club. He was talking about possibly merging the Sarasota club into the Venice club. May be worth checking out if its close enough to you. It was quite the drive for me so I may only go to future meets depending on the speaker. TBAS just switched from Monday nights to Saturday mid day. I think this upcoming auction will be a big one for fish, The last few meetings had no fish auction. December was the Christmas party and January was the annual plants only. So there should be lots of people waiting to turn in BAP fish and also selling fish they couldnt for 2 months.
  19. Here are some ways to go about this: 1. Hatch enough so you feed all of it when its separated (I prefer this method and will usually overfeed just to use the brine up) 2. Hatch a little less so you can keep the remainder in the refrigerator and feed over the next 24hrs 3. Hatch the same amount and freeze the remainder immediately into small cubes. On a side note, 813 area code? Are you in Tampa? I am 727 Pinellas Park. There are some fish clubs in our area if you havent checked them out yet. TBAS and Pasco are great.
  20. I use a flow meter to monitor flow rate and total gallons passed through the filters. Once you lock in the flow rate you can use the spec sheets that come with the higher end filters to estimate when it will need to be replaced. Filters like the spec sheet above are usually sold for whole house applications, upflow canisters are the same but with a much greater capacity. Both filters will last a very long time when used for aquariums. You can choose to test water monthly or just pick a safe interval to change the filter based on time. The big filter like my friend uses work for multiple bath whole house filtration and last many years maintenance free. Either way you will want to remove chlorine before your RO unit to extend its filtration life/capacity. So the de-chlorination part of your system will be doing double duty.
