  1. For the tap water "de-chlorine" side of your system: I run my tap water with chloramines through several different cartridge filters before it is put into my tanks. If you only have chlorine and not chloramine then its an even easier process to filter out using city pressure only without a holding tank/reservoir just using inline carbon filters. A friend of mine uses a giant upflow carbon filter only, not even a prefilter lol. Its rigged to a garden hose to manually fill tanks at his store https://www.freshwatersystems.com/products/upflow-non-electric-catalytic-carbon-filter you can also change/add media for your specification. I have no pump and use the city pressure to drive the water into the tanks once the solenoids are opened by my sprinkler controller I have my flow rate capped at 0.5gpm on this system to give the most dwell time in the filters. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mXhJMY0nAtFoQ4Lrvd1DrhWizs-t4NCzuNBuFd3bCOk/edit#gid=736804507 The 20" filter does the majority if not all of the work, the other smaller sized filters were used because I had them on hand. My initial auto water change system was setup per tank with the smaller 10" blocks.
  2. Zoomed sells a can of freshwater river shrimp https://zoomed.com/can-o-shrimp-fish-food/ I feed my flowerhorn shrimp intended for human consumption. I buy them frozen and the price per pound is a better deal than the omega freeze dried and zoomed canned shrimp I was using previously. It may be worth looking into, I buy it at a restaurant supply store (GFS) and it is sold by how many shrimp make up a pound. You could try the smallest (most shrimp per pound) and if they are too big cut them into pieces. https://gfsstore.com/products/623861/
  3. If you have other tanks you could take the majority of them out and leave just a few. It may make the fish more likely to hunt them. You could also try total removal and after holding off of feeding for a while introduce just one fish in the same way you would drop in food.
  4. The American legion may be a good place. Two of the clubs I attend hold their meetings at the VFW buildings.
  5. Just confirming that you have the heaters manual setting to a temperature higher than the controller set temp. If they are set to the same or lower temp than the controller they will turn themselves off even when the controller is supplying them power. This will surely trigger a continuous heating alarm with a heater functioning as it should.
  6. I killed a fish today in one of the strangest ways. It was while feeding baby brine to my fish room. One of my mature male caudopunctatus jumped out of a small opening in the lid, just big enough for the turkey baster. It landed directly under my heel right as it was coming down almost like he was aiming for it. It was over before I could fully process what had just happened. I then spent the next hour moving the remaining breeders and "resetting" that tank. I figure it must of had some bad vibes.
  7. Looks cool. There are some massive pieces at my LFS that I have been eyeing the same way for over a year now.
  8. I have moved a 125 leaving wet sand in the bottom. It was heavy but made the trip.
  9. Never heard of them, I would look at some of the big box pet stores or even a LFS that is a fluval vendor. They will either have them instock or can order you one. Im not sure how well a glass tank would ship. I like looking at the glass tank in person before buying if its possible.
  10. Might be able to use it with just the one it comes with at first and easily add a second later if/when it is required.
  11. They should be fine with the light that comes with the flex kit. I think its the equivalent of an fluval aquasky.
  12. The fluval flex tanks with the internal sump style filters seem like the best choice for quality and convenience of a built in filter. Its light will also be fluval quality but may not be as powerful as a plant 3.0
  13. If they are still alive I wouldnt worry about it. I have removed air to let them settle before harvesting just to forget and leave them sitting without air for quite some time. Even if dead they can still be fed and would be similar to feeding frozen baby brine. Just make sure you can separate the brine shrimp from the hatched/unhatched eggs.
  14. I make them for use on mattenfilters out of thinwall 1" pvc and use them with bulk reticulated 30ppi foam from jehmco. Have not made one to fit ontop of a sponge filter but the design would be the same if you could find tubing the same diameter. It would just give you directional surface flow vs upward flow
  15. I keep the 1 pound cans in the freezer. I fill a small container that I keep in the refrigerator for daily hatching.
  16. Many years they are very efficient and reliable design
  17. I use the cheap aquatop 100w and 200w quartz as heating elements plugged into and controlled by an inkbird
  18. I got a great deal on a bulk lot of sicce scuba heaters back when I started setting up my room. I think they may have been discontinued so for new setups I use cheap aquatop heaters and go slightly undersized (based on common recommendations) I combine them with heater controllers from inkbird and sometimes hygger on "important" or "hot" tanks
  19. I only use the tumbler if the male kicks the eggs out of the cave. It works great to save them. With most batches I move the father and the eggs in the cave to a growout tank. I let him raise them to just before they swim out of the cave then dump them in the ziss breeder box. My group is female heavy and my male will raise 2 batches at a time, I let him recover in the growout tank for a few days before adding him back with all the females.
  20. Smaller and cheaper, and the plastic is actually thicker on those. Nice find.
  21. Something to consider is how much space the cinder blocks take up. For your limited space you will be able to fit more tanks if you build your own stand out of 2x3 or 2x4. Wood is affordable again. Wait to buy tanks when they are on sale for $1 per gallon or finding deals on facebook/craigslist.
