  1. When a Neo shrimp dies it’s like a big mosh pit around it in the shrimp tank. Everybody fighting for a bite. Super savage!
  2. I use the 978 non-submersible. 24/7 mode will grow algae if you don't have enough plants in your tank. If you only have a few plants, the algae can outcompete. The light also has timers of 6, 10 & 12 hours. You can go to one of those timed settings if you need reduced light duration.
  3. It's funny @Guppysnail. I always feel like it's weird to feed shrimp to.. shrimp. 🤣
  4. The makers of this food also make a fun bbs hatchery where the bbs swim up into a jar or something, and then the jar can just be taken off the unit for easy harvest. Oh also the jar is freshwater, so no rinsing. But the hatching area is saltwater. The bbs can swim up into the jar as they wish. They do it because that is the only area of the hatchery that receives light. Light attracts them.
  5. I had a dream that I had so much hornwort. It was always getting tangled and caught on the decor that it made it hard to do maintenance, so I decided to put it into the small, mesh laundry bags with the zippers that people use to wash their delicates. I filled 4 of those bags with hornwort, and I placed them in the tank. After awhile one of the fish was pale and sluggish, and I didn't know why. Also I saw a mystery snail had somehow gotten inside one of the bags. I opened the bag to get the mystery snail out, and then I decided to empty the bags to check for any more snails. I found 4 or 5 empty mystery snail shells in the bags, 😭 and an empty rabbit snail shell 😭 and then I found a shoe (it was not my shoe). Continuing to check the bags and dig through the hornwort, I found 2 more shoes. None of the shoes matched the other ones, and they didn't belong to me. I also found what looked like a giant river rock in one of the bags, but it was made of rubber or something - it definitely wasn't an actual rock - and the rubber had started to erode away. Then I did a water change and added carbon and the fish did better after that. It seemed the shoes had created a toxin in the water. I figured I would discontinue using the mesh laundry bags after that.
  6. @nabokovfan87 my shrimp go bonkers over Repashy soilent green. I've begun to notice that it has ingredients that are shrimp specific and they like. I NEVER have leftover Repashy in the tank. They frenzy over the stuff. I do add calcium carbonate to it. Good for snails and good for shrimps to molt. Calcium carbonate is free of charge from Crayfish Empire. Their mission is to help prevent calcium deficiencies in inverts in the aquarium hobby. You can also make your own shrimp lollies with the Repashy. Soilent Green Repashy: These are just some things I noticed. I didn't get super in-depth with this or into all the vitamins and whatnot. That's a project for another day 🙂 I did this in my shrimp tank because I want to be able to maintain the filter without the worry of shrimplets inside of the sponge. They can be easily shooed off of the fine sponge.
  7. If this fish does not normally have the red streaks on its fins, if it is normally a white fish- I would agree with you on the bacterial infection. @sankaz @Colu
  8. Take a piece of paper and try to slide it under your tank. Do this all around the tanks: front, sides, and back. If the paper slides under it gives you an idea of where the tank is not sitting right. If the paper becomes wet, move the fish to a tote on the floor with the filter and the tank water. This is your disaster plan right here. Pick up two of these totes ASAP. Just have them on hand and keep them empty (don’t put “stuff” in them or allow them to become storage.)
  9. Got the big lotus pod added. It had soaked several days, has 3 plant weights, and was still very floaty! I think it kind of looks cool nestled in like this though. Pardon all the particulates…was a little bit of a challenge and it kicked up some stuff, lol. It is really a lot of fun to see the shrimps go in and out of the pod.
  10. A land pipsqueak that got kinda lost, but found their way again
  11. It is fine, given the plant weight is around the stems and not the rhizome.
  12. This is my favorite method for all of the things. 😍
  13. I agree with that. Rimless is the new fad, but rims serve a purpose. There is a lot of outward pressure happening in tanks. I've seen a video where a guy didn't like the woodgrain rim of his tank and took it off. That did not end well.
  14. I do have ostracods in addition to this new thing. Movement of this one is like a “skittering”. The prefer to crawl vs swim and they duck between rocks whenever they can. I ended up putting these new things in with 18 tetras and a ram. They are probably history by now. 🙂
  15. Mine looks similar to the freshwater isopod.
  16. My husband’s coworker went for a walk on her lunch break yesterday and the soles of her (expensive) shoes melted. 😳 We had a heat advisory of 105-110 yesterday.
  17. I put a mini lotus pod 🪷 into the wild tank. Several babies instantly used it for shelter. Some of the skinnier adults can fit too. I have big pods too but they are much too buoyant and are soaking. This one shown took 2 plant weights to sink after boiling, then soaking for a day. I was hoping to lay it on its side, but it will only sit upright.
  18. Cyclops is copepod, but these things are different than copepods.
  19. I really can’t tell @Guppysnail. They are super small. Look like pill bugs, but they have stripes like a bee.
