I have fish that are supposed to be coming tomorrow!

  • Apistogramma Borelli Opal Pair
  • Sparkiling Gourami x2
  • Celestrial Pearl Danio x6

Both the gouramis and pearl danios will be going in the 5 gallon barry was in. The apistogramma will be bred in the 40 gallon with the mollies.

One of the mamma mollies just gave birth to more fry, awesome! Everyones been doing great, with another very pregant molly!

Today I decided to prep for all of these arrivals. Doing waterchanges on all tanks.

40 Gallon (Apistogramma will be bred in here along with the current mollys)

  • 25% Waterchange
  • Trimmed some hornwort
  • Adjusted the wood to make a cave for the apistos
  • Current Water Parameters after waterchange
    • Nitrates: 35ppm
    • Nitrites 0ppm
    • Amonia: 0ppm
    • PH: 7.0ppm

10 Gallon (Breeding Tiger Platys)

  • 50% Waterchange
  • Trimmed up some pogostemon and removed some hair algae
  • LOTS OF BABIES HIDING EVERYWHERE
  • Current Water Parameters after waterchange
    • Nitrates: 40ppm
    • Nitrites: 0ppm
    • Amonia: 0ppm
    • PH: 7.0ph

I'm really not liking the look of this tank. Its just a big pile of mulm with the java fern and hygrophillia, and of course the never stop growing pogostemon. I'm upgrading this to a 20 gallon long soon, so I'll rescape it then. I have started putting together my plant order for it.

Fluval Spec 5 Gallon (Home for the sparkliling gouramis and cpds)

  • No waterchange, just a top off
  • Some really great growth of plants, bacopa just taking off
  • Lots of baby snails, I'm waiting for the frogbit to take off.
  • Current Water Parameters
    • Nitrates: 10ppm
    • Nitrites: 0 ppm
    • Amonia: 0ppm
    • PH: 7.0ppm

After dimming the light, and letting the light on stay for longer (9:30am - 9pm, 11.5hrs) I've seen some dramatic plant growth. The Bacopa really adjusted well to that change as well as the anubias.

The fish came early this morning! 9:45am! I dont think I've ever had a package arrive in such time. But none the less, the faster the better.

I was very impressed with the packaging. Several still warm heatpacks.

The apistogramma pair and the gouramis all came in looking very happy. However the CPDs were a DOA, I got a refund though so its fine.

The gouramis have lots of places to hide so I'm only able to find one, under a bunch of dwarf sag. Their eyes are a very bright beautifal blue, its awesome.

The Male Apistogramma started checking all his new tank mates out (all the mollys) as the female made its way to the cave that I made. Eventually the male followed.

Seriosuly the Bacopa in this tank, I've been seeing new growth everyday! @xXInkedPhoenixXthats very exciting, and I defentley can't wait for mine to start doing that. This Bacopa was my first stem plant, so I was defentley a little nervous at first. I'm pllanning out some 20 long and hopping I get some trimmings from this bacopa so I can incoperate some in the 20 long

Along with the fish I purchased Some hikari food:

  • Vibra Bites
  • Micro Pellets

I'm very excited to try these foods out, and I'm thinking they will be perfect for the gouramis and cpds considering their size.

 Awwww poor CPDs. That sucks.

Yes you will love the Bacopa. I have the original stems in my main tank and when I trim I either put those trimmings right back in the pot they were growing from or in my other tanks. Each batch of Bacopa just gets thicker and prettier the more you add. I'm starting to put them in my "Angry Man" tank in the front corner. It's one of my favorite plants.

All the fish seem to be settiling in nicely. The apistos ate today, and the male is more active and personal to me. I was told to name him Sylvester, so thats his new name.

The gouramis also have been settiling in, all though will take some time. They dont have any dither fish, because the CPDS were a DOA. They seemed intersted in their food today but I dont think ate any. I'll start hatching out some BBS which should help to get them to settle in.

Today I was able to locate a 20 Gallon Long for only $50 from a local hobbyist. The plan is to upgrade the 10 gallon to this 20 long:

The plants will be coming Tuesday which is when I'll be setting it up. I wasn't thinking I'd be getting one this early but I had to take ahold of this deal.

The 20 long has been setup, planted and now running for a few days. I used the same spongefilter from the 10 gallon, so fish were transfered over right away. Most of the plants are tissue culture so they are quite small. However I'm really looking forward to working with the Alternanthera reineckii green.

The aquarium has a layer of soil and a thing layer of gravel to cap it. Its very dim, it currently has a 3.0 nano on it. However I'll be upgrading it for sure within the week or two. I'm thinking a Hygger Light. However I am very tempted to do another 3.0, but the cost is whats stopping me.

It still has the platys breeding. When catching the fish out I counted 10 babies, 6 adudlts.

My sparkiling gourami only are eating the baby brine shrimp I give them, which is too expesnive to feed every day. They almost never come out either. Truly are shy fish. I do beleive that they would benefit from having shoaling fish but I cant find any smaller rasboras or neon tetras at my lfs. All though I just got them, I'm thinking they will be happier in someone elses setup. If the CPDs werent a DOA perhaps we would be in a different boat. So I've put an ad out for them on kijjiji. Itll be tough to catch them out, perhaps I can use Live baby brine to lure them out of their hiding spot and scoop them up fast. Its a planted tank which is why I'm thinking itll be tough.

Sylvester our Male Apistogramma Borelli Opal is coloring up nicely. I'm looking forward to little baby apistos swimming everywhere. I'm gonna start a brine shrimp batch this evening, should be ready for sunday morning.

  • 3 weeks later...

Now that the Gouramis have been given back, the tank remains empty...again! After Hugos passing in Janurary the tank has gone through 2 sets of stocking. Barry the Pea Puffer, that died. And then of course the sparkiling gourami that didnt work out.

The seller I've purchased the apistogramma pair and gouramis doesnt seem like a very high quality dealer. Both the apistogramma have suddenlly died only weeks after receiving them, and one gourami died. Along with the 6 cpds that were DOA.

I ordered 10 Pumpkin Shrimp from a canadian shrimp breeder located in Calgary. They will be going in my fluval spec 5 gallon that housed my sparkiling gourami. Because it has a internal filter, I have to make it shrimp safe. To do this I got some mesh netting and ziptied it to the intake, this should work. I'm excited to try shrimp again! The shrimp will be shipped Monday, and should arrive Tuesday. I've been impressed with my passed drygood orders from this company, so I'm sure I'll be pleased with this shipment. Along with the shrimp I ordered some Frogbit.

My shrimp came yesterday! I ordered 10 orange Pumpkin Shrimp, however they added one in case of a DOA. There was no DOAs so 11 total! They have being doing great so far! I have a small container of shrimp king complete thatl ill be using. I'm thinking about using the LEGIT Fish Food bottom dweller foods for these guys as well.

I drip acclimated them before putting them into the tank in a specimen container. The shipper gave me some subwasser tang for free for something for the shrimp to grab onto during shipping.

I've only ordered dry goods from this company before like food. They are a company that specializes in shrimp and planted aquariums. However they dont have a website, only a facebook page. Their customer service always had speedy replys, longest I've waited for a reply was one hour. Shipping prices were some of the cheepest I've ever seen for livestock. I am very happy with this purchase. For those wanting a source, PM me!!!!

Currently I'm only feeding them the shrimp king complete foods. I'm wondering what other foods youd reccemend. I'm hatching out some brine shrimp soon, would the shrimp enjoy that? Theres a 5in1 pack for some of the shrimp king foods i might wanna try. Along with some repashy.

Looks awesome! Personally, I loved the Shrimp King stuff when I had it (the 5 in 1 is really cool, but kind of a pain sometimes as the packets don't reseal). I don't think I've noticed my shrimp taking the live brine shrimp, however if any brine shrimp end up on the bottom they'd probably like it. Honestly, they seem to do fine with just flakes (I use Extreme Krill, but I imagine most brands would work. I've heard the krill within it helps to make them redder, so if you're trying to go for a certain look that might help). I've tried putting in frozen brine shrimp, as well as boiled then frozen zucchini which they seemed to like.

When I had mine, blanched kale, blanched spinach, blanched squash, and blanched carrots were a hit. Take blanched foods out before they foul the water (temperature determines the time limit).

BugBites shrimp food was also a hit, and I would cut a piece of blanched kale, sprinkle with the BugBites, roll up like sushi, and skewer with a bamboo stick, and lower in the water. Rarely had much left after 2 hours when I would remove the stick.

BacterAE would foul the water, no matter how well I followed the directions... however... I learned to dose a 5 gallon bucket with a sponge filter with the BacterAE, and I would drop the bamboo skewers and bamboo chopsticks in the bucket to grow a great biofilm. Probably equivalent to the reaction @Guppysnail's shrimp give the Repashy. Takes about a week for a good biofilm, so I just kept 2 buckets going once the colony got big enough. Move a skewer into the tank, replace it the next day and drop the "used skewer" into the "used bucket". Once the "new bucket" was empty, and the "used bucket" was full, the bamboo was well seeded and I reversed the process. Never had any problems with water fouling after that, until I got really sick with covid.

I woke up today with my first shrimp molt... very exciting. However later this afternoon I saw a dead shrimp, do you think this has to do with the molt? Or could it just be a random death.

image.jpeg.b7b6ad01f0a54d730f0b4aa993b4a2f5.jpeg

Water Parameters goes as follows:

Amonia 0.25ppm, I did a waterchange to remove this amonia and i think it was caused from the dead body being in the aquarium for a few hours.

Nitrites: 0ppm

Nitrates: 25ppm

Gh: 75ppm
