  1. You may have to go with twice monthly root tabs on the swords. Easy carbon from the coop with also help
  2. I found this were colu takes about red blotch. I may have to skim through and look for colu’s post.
  3. I have you that was treated and now healthy but there is the permanent damage Colu talks about. She has been fine for about months. She acts normal and can see some out of it because if I walk up on the side of the tank with the bad eye she reacts.
  4. I think it’s a bacterial infection that can effect al fish but really affects corys. I’m going to ask some that might know more. @Colu do you think this could be red blotch disease. This is just my opinion and if you can you may want to wait for colu to answer. Do you have any meds there.
  5. I have super low Ca and super high Mg. If I want to increase Ca available in the water for snails and plants. With the calcium chloride I worry about depleting any buffer I have. I do use magic shell and like it but it has extra Mg in it. Removing Mg: is there a way to leach out the Mg from the water before a water change. The only products that that have found that remove/fix Mg also do the same with the small amounts of Ca I have. Is they only way to RO and then add the proper amounts back in.
  6. Have you offered them on Craigslist. I know no one uses that anymore. I hit it up all the time. I do it for used tanks mostly but I haven’t gone fish there and given. Fish away their. I see them on the Facebook marketplace but Facebook has a policy about live animals if that matters to you. If you do that and people want to meet to get them pick don’t let them come to your home. I know it’s common sense but people tell me to pick things up at their homes all the time.
  7. I have well issues as well. I have to fill two of the big gray trash cans and let the water sit of a day at least. This has stopped my fish from dying when I do a water change. I don’t have e.coli but without letting it gas off the fish will die fast. Not sure that will help but I can understand the trouble with a well. I don’t drink the water. I don’t boils the water because I worry that the minerals will be more concentrated. Your have a bacteria so it’s a totally different ball game.
  8. It depends on the fish and the food.As @Flumpweeselmskes most of the point would have too. I used to feed the vegetables I was going to cook for dinner al the time. I would just Pacu scrapes but i they were normally trimings and not cooked. I think if you did not have sauce are cooking oils those they are fine. There are some plants that’s that you probably should stay away from. Potatoes skins, the green stems on tomato’s. If it’s the first fist I would give it a quick google, if you do this it should only be a treat not a everyday thing. Most fish foods have been call me Whited so fish get all they need
  9. Yeah you sure know if there is a short. I use hygger but they have so many. It’s also a money choice because I have so many tanks. They not short but I don’t feel they are the best. If you are on a tight budget then they are a good option.
  10. I have tetras in hard water. Most are thought to be soft water fish but that is changing now more fish are being raised and not wild caught. The fish farms in Florida generally have hard water. I think you can get away with them .
  11. As a last resort clove oil. I know this is a sensitive subject and being a farm boy I see things a little different.
  12. I go fine floss then the course sponge but I have the course sponge stand a little higher so water cans go over the top. In one I use a filter that Rhett use for intake as the water out flows. I use it more to have the water more gently fall in the tankI have a small babe of ceramic cylinders on the left. Then floss the the course sponge( normally I only have one not two I was working in the tank and wanted to stop)any bigger pieces faster then the intake sponge on the outfall. I doubt it does much other than slow and spread the water flow. I did because of course Angelfish fry. They were getting outed all over. I think the two of you got ithat thing down. Nice work
  13. Yeah I yeah he was just talking about checking it, I was just suggesting that when they checked that they may want to check that there was no electricity escaping. The glass tube one are the ones that have some issues. I have noticed that my neons did this before I reached in and found that the heater was shorted. It probably is not that but as long as they are checking , checking that just to be safe. There are some interesting papers about ll lateral line and electricity. I didn’t know it was shark week but I’m sure you’ll hear a lot about lateral lines and sharks being able to detect injured fish if you watch that this week I don’t have cable so I don’t watch it but I didn’t think of that when I wrote the post
  14. You may want to search past posts as well as this has been discussed before. Most turn to there own design to fit needs. It may help. Good luck I hope you find what you are looking for.
  15. That’s a big water change but we each things different I would do 50 several days in a row but they could both work. I have water conditions that a 90% change would shock my fish.
  16. I think it’s similar to this the one I’m used in the pore experiment.
  17. Breeding the plecos in a tank like that is highly unlikely do to the amount going on and the loach’s can and will interfere with breeding.
  18. @nabokovfan87 is right on I used to grow plants this way. Just the sand wet and cover with good plactic wrap. If you can use restaurant quality it works great. You may crate your own mini climate. Watch for mold. That really only happens when the sand is wet and zero air if you see some remove it. And make a small opening in the corner very small.
  19. They are schooling fish I would sort of go down the line of @Colu but check there is no short. The lateral can pick up small electrical anomaly before us. I has seen fish swim right to a shorting heater and get to much power. And then people have no idea until the short gets bad and you feel when you put your hand in it.
  20. Order them all the thing even from eBay like others I saw post here. They are probably fresher than the ones in the local store.
  21. I removed a pair from the show tank and not I guess the show tank wants to breed. It will fail because there are some many different fish in that tank.
  22. Check Facebook. Many have moved some of there information there especially during Covid to be able to have meetings. The it was easier to find. I live in an area that has a pretty bigg and I never knew until I but a used tank and was told. He did daily that many members were older and not tech savvy. I would google search by the smallest area to bigger. City, country state, if you find one in the state the can likely point you to the right clubs for you.
  23. Hey they is a time and place and I’m not going to say trash. Big cichlids need big fake plants sometimes. LOL.I have done some great tank with silks
