  1. I normally let my mine falling the tank. When I hatch outside use. Those serving sizes are for humans. I use a tooth pick and drop a small amount. It goes a long way. @Guppysnailor @Chick-In-Of-TheSea can talk more about what they do and snello. Use it in my snello but I don’t make it often
  2. I’m do think the tank likes the real plants but if I ever go with big cichlids I’ll ask for your help. They don’t do well with real ones
  3. I have not, but I do have a tank with real moss one the bottom. I don’t think it’s a problem if you can find some that is fish safe. If you can find some with a thicker pad you can probably cut it just a little bigger and habit fit tight ing the tank. I would worried that pieces of the green grass pieces would become loss and the fish eat it and just stick in the gut. I think it would depend on the fish you wish to keep. The worst thing that can happen is it doesn’t work and you have to change things around. I’m sure lots of people will disagree but if it’s what you want to try go for it. There are things to think about 1. fish safe 2. Maintenance how to clean and vacuum 3 is the look something you think you would like. You can probably get scrapes to test it at the box stores. You didn’t say how big the tank is 4. positive bacterial: will there be enough to keep a health tank. I have a stone bottom tank. I use this stone the gaps are filled with crushed stone of the same type.
  4. I have almost never kept Cory on sand so I don’t think that is necessary but I do agree that if you have gravel it should not have sharp gravel. I would also remove the eggs and hatch yourself. There is a co-op YouTube video that has Dean discussing it.
  5. I have very good lights and have been looking for colors. I have gotten the red plants going well and just thought I could try some different colors. I saw some yellow plants in a YouTube video but you never know how easy there are to get and if my skill is up to them.
  6. I like both. You did a great job with the false plant’s. I do like the red plant in fake tank. You have done an outstanding job on both tanks.
  7. I’m going to disagree at some point, maybe just to do it!
  8. What is everyone option on triming the plants. Should it be every 2 week or as need. I have some good new growth and hate to have damaged leaves on.
  9. Agree again. I have luck with heavy plants like think moss on the bottom.
  10. I have used reef salt but only for treatment in my aquarium l. Never had and issues but it was not a regular part of the tank maintenance. I got a huge box when I bought a used tank and the owner gave it to me. It’s mostly from brine shrimp.
  11. Can you adjust the colors of your light? I would looking easy carbon from the coop as it can help control this. Cory has a Video on YouTube and i believe on the webpage.
  12. That’s great to have a supply of good drift wood I’m surprised so my places don’t have good drift woood
  13. I do think you do need to watch balance. A balanced aquarium is goo but if I see an explosion of one thing be it snails, detritus worms, limpmets(I have never seen explosion to worry about other than looks with this), algae or whatever it’s then I start to think what is causing this. With detritus worms the first thing would be to much food or lack of vacuuming(not always possible in all tanks due to reasons. Plants, moss, or something else.
  14. @Chick-In-Of-TheSeamost wood is fine it’s the cellulose that is really important. I have found that Malaysian Drift Wood is the favorite for most plecos. It’s a big wood and I think it might be easier to process. They wood keeps a healthy gut. This is there I get. It’s not this brand but looks almost the same which not all Malaysian drift wood does, sinks well too. 15. I don’t see why not. I use a tub but it is always set you has heathy bacteria and plants no snails or inverts because if I have to treat there is a possibility of them not making it. I treat all incoming fish with salt so I like hard plants I can’t kill Amazon swords and such. I also keep 2 or 3 male guppies gosh I have of the 100’s I have 2or 3 can go in just to keep everything going. I know some people like bare qt tanks but I prefer to treat with salt observe and get them ready to move on to a similar tank. I see no reason a 5.5 would not work. If you choose to keep it bare I would run a filter at all times and put a pinch of food in just a little to keep a balanced system.
  16. I really depends on the type of shrimp. Most amanos hardy. It’s quick changes. That goes for most aquarium animals though.
  17. Detritus worms., but there are so many. You may want a good gravel vacuum to remove some or add a a couple of small fish like endlers, neons. Since it’s a snail tank you can find less colorfully fish so you draw way from the snails. I would think that that many worms free swimming is taking away from the look of the snails
  18. I best place to put it is not near the intake but the out fall. You going to get the best distribution through out the tank. Having the CO2 through the filter can chase the co2 to break near the surface. Since you don’t a in line system that’s not an option. One of the best ways is though a power head if yo can. I think if you have not other better options then by the intake is ok but not the best way. The biggest issue you will have is if you have carbon in those filters as activated carbon/charcoal will remove CO2 . It won’t remove it all but you will get less bang for the buck
  19. I think if you breed for fun overall and profit comes you will be happier and probably more successful. This thread has gotten long and I don’t know how much experience you have breeding each of these. Some are east like the snails, but the size area you need to produce a enough to make profit is a lot. LFS are often ready and willing to take mystery snails. Prices are low. I breed blue mystery snails and in these area there is some demand as snails in tanks as cleaners but most go for food for snail eaters. They would rather sell those than ramshorns because they don’t want anything do with them because once they have them in there filtration systems( many use bank or one massive system for tanks. The smaller the store the more likely to have shared filtration. On some of the hobbyist web sites like eBay you can sell them but eBay is algorithm driven so you can sell items and the more you sell the more eyes are sent to you store. Even paying for eyes doesn’t make a big deal. I think you can do it and it seems you understand that it takes times to learn an not get lucky breeding. Even when you know what you are doing it’s still a little luck. All the best
  20. I have kept green severums with a hodgepodge community tank. It worked out great for me, but I have heard it can be an issue some times. There are several severum but the green are the calmest. Calm might night be the right word however I think you match those up with Rainbow cichlid stay small enough 3-4”and would go with serverum
  21. I don’t think that will be anywhere near enough tanks to do what you want.
  22. They will be great in there. They will grow right into them. I would not get more. They are the best algae eaters when smaller I think. Once there full grown they seem to not eat as much, but still eat it. It’s like kids eat all the time and most adults can’t eat all the time or it’s bad for health but they still eat.
  23. Zoom worms watermelon Texas rigged. Easy to use and for kids that like to cast over and over its weedless and very easy to rig. Thought my kids at that age on a cheap Zebco push button. The then moved up at 6 or 7 to shimano or penn reels. We got ugly stick rods because they didn’t break as easy. Corrtsticks where still a round, and didn’t break but they where like using a tree trunk to fish. I’m in Fl so second hand fish stuff is all over. Every one is going to retire and fish, get a bit, and have that dream aquarium. Florida man does get a break once in awhile.
  24. I agree with @Fish Folk. I would be more worried about a tanked water heater. If I have to run the warm water in my tanks I have to run the water out of the water heater. I wash dish’s do laundry and maybe shower some the water that was sitting in the tank is gone. I had a tankless at a previous home 20 years ago and tankless was much newer idea and never had a problem. To be safe and know test the 3 times you will know what you are putting in the tank. Most water you let sit will test different after those times but I still think it’s the right way to do it. If after the test you are happy with waiting go for butbdo the testing first.
