  1. Hello all! I used to run 2 canister filters on my 75g until one sprung a leak over a year ago. Instead of buying another one, i decided to run a sponge filter. It's been running for well over a year and every time i ring it out in tank water, it's like squeezing a brand new sponge. Nothing comes out! Is my Cascade 1000 that good or do i have a defective sponge filter? I do use an airstone to quiet it down some.
  2. That's a great deal! If it comes down to it, resealing a tank is not difficult at all. I bought a used 75g many years ago and resealed it. Still holding up well to this day. Just buy it. Your wife will forgive you eventually 😂 Good Luck!
  3. UPDATE!! The little guy did make it! I will admit I don't know much about snails and i just assumed they only survive in water. He looked and felt bone dry at 5am this morning so I thought ge was a gonner and threw him in the trashcan. Came home from work and put him in the tank and within 5 minutes he was moving around! I have a glass lid but I've kept it off for now to help keep the temperature down some. May have to reconsider that now. THANKS EVERYONE!
  4. Woke up this morning to find my mystery snail on the floor, about 3 feet away from the tank. Sadly, it was too late to save him. I've had him for a few months and never had a problem with an open tank (no lid). Not quite sure what happened but I'm guessing he found his way out, off the stand and onto the floor. Anyone else have this happen? Never kept snails before i started my planted tank so I was wondering if this is common.
  5. I had the same issue. You can try stuffing some poly-fil at the exit of your hob. It will reduce the force in which the water comes out and is also very good at removing the smallest of particles for crystal clear water! Good luck
  6. Hello again! I am basically starting over (see my previous thread for more info on that disaster) and I just heavily planted my 10g and I'm trying to get better CO2 distribution. I've tried multiple different configurations between my filter and diffuser locations and i could never get my drop checker lighter than dark green even up to 3bps. I just placed the diffuser directly under the internal filter so about 80% of the bubbles get sucked into in, broken down to smaller bubbles and distributed throughout the tank thru the outlet. Does anyone see an issue with doing this? The only issue i could think of would be the possibility of wearing down the propeller over time. Luckily these Nicrew internal filters are fairly cheap on amazon if that does happen. Not many options to increase flow in such a small tank imo. Any and all suggestions are welcome! Thanks.
  7. Update to those who are interested. It turns out that i didn't have a diatom issue at all. It appears that it was the "Mopani" driftwood i had in the tank. I removed the wood, propagated my anubias and glued them to a aquarium rock. Problem solved! I haven't had the brown junk issue since. I was confused because diatoms are usually easy to brush off things in the tank. This junk was difficult to remove but the reverse respiration helped save a few plants. Time to buy more now! Never once crossed my mind that it could be the wood. Lost a lot of plants in the process but I'm glad things are looking better. Anyone else have this issue with wood? I took my time and boiled it several times and soaked it for 2 months before starting the tank. It was ordered from amazon saying it was Mopani driftwood but now I'm starting to wonder...
  8. I think they look nice. I have one on my 75. The problem I have is that my wife likes to walk in the house and put all of her worldy possessions on top of the canopy and out of reach of our 2 year old. Drives me crazy!
  9. I would say it's been going on for about 2 months. Tank has been running for a year. I am using a Nicrew internal filter. I was running a hob bio wheel but i switched due to lack of proper water flow and CO2 distribution. Maybe i didn't let the internal filter run long enough to build up BB before removing the hob? The wood was well boiled and soaked before adding to the tank a year ago. Could be?? I had a Thrive tab break open in the tank the other day and a milky substance entered the water column.
  10. I would mark this experiment as a SUCCESS!! Many of my plant leaves were covered in brown diatoms and were suffering. No matter how many times I tried or how many water changes I did, I couldn't get rid of them. Thanks to @Guppysnail I was introduced to Reverse Respiration as an option to save my plants. I carefully removed them from the tank and placed them in seltzer water for 10 hours in the dark and then replanted them. Most of the diatoms were gone and what was left is slowly disappearing!! My tank was almost completely taken over by diatoms. I gave everything else a deep clean (except my bio media) while my plants were soaking. Everything is looking MUCH better now! I still have a lot to learn with the planted tank but this discovery could be a game changer! Big thanks to all involved for the research and information!!
  11. Anyone know what's going on here? 10g planted tank with BDBS and root tabs. Every time i do a water change (50% weekly) my piece of driftwood and sword show a white substance on them. It's usually on the underside of the leaves and wood. I can brush it off fairly easy with my hand but if i leave it alone, it usually goes away within a few days. I have the same type of wood and use the same water source in my non planted tank and have no issues at all. I have searched the net and can't seem to find anything. Ph 7.4 Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 40 Gh 7 Kh 11 Injected CO2, Nicrew classic + led on 8 hrs a day. Thrive tabs and Thrive liquid ferts doses 1x a week.
  12. Anyone here have issues with Buenos Aires Tetras eating plants? I have five I'm considering adding to my planted tank. I remember reading somewhere that it's a possibility. Just curious if anyone has these in with plants. In the meantime, I will work on my fish photography skills 😁
  13. Just got some seltzer water! I will definitely do before and after pics. Do you think it's ok to keep my Anubias attached to my driftwood and just soak the whole thing?
  14. This is very interesting! Having a diatom issue that is covering all my plants. I'm willing to try anything at this point to save what I have left. I don't have a ton of plants so I will remove them and let them soak. Excited to give this a try!
