  1. Is this the one? I like this one because it has different sized tubes. It fits my FX 4 perfectly. I only need to clean mine about once a month, but each person’s set-up is different!
  2. Ahh- thanks — it says they need to be kept in schools - which I had, but all died but 2. Might explain why they’ve become nippy. I was watching them carefully this morning and thought I caught them in the act. Pretty fish, but theyll have to go in the big boy tank while i try to beef up their school😊
  3. Yeah, I've seen others say they have good success with plants with this tank. I'm glad to hear you think they're nice tanks - this gives me confidence! Next time I visit, I may just casually bring up some cuttings and root tabs. Once she sees how pretty live plants are, I think she'll never go back. 🙂
  4. Hi All! My Mom finally got back into aquariums again after years of going without. As kids, we always had what I thought was a giant aquarium - 30 whole gallons with an UG filter and fancy goldfish, and It's her influence that got both my sister and I big into the hobby as adults - but I think we've intimidated her with our enthusiasm. One day out of the blue, she said "Hey lets go look at fish tanks." I was so excited! We settled on this 5 gallon Top Fin "Engage" aquarium. it has a really big compartment in the back that we stuffed with sponges and used Seachem Bio-Media. It even has an easy way to change water. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this tank, what do they like about it, does the pump last, etc.. Some reviewers put an air stone in the compartment and I'm wondering if I should advise her to do the same. She has agreed to only keep a betta in there so I am especially happy about that - I want her to feel successful, and it's a big responsibility to teach someone from scratch about this hobby - there are so many variables! Thanks so much! EDIT: It's the Engage aquarium not Imagine
  5. Hi All, I have 7 threadfin rainbows - had them about a month and a half. When purchased from Aqua Huna they were so tiny I put them in a grow out tank. Had no problems there. I've since moved them to my 72 G tank and i've noticed several males with bitten off tail fins. Not ragged - the tips are bitten clean off. Did the dominant male do this or maybe it was another fish. Other culprits could be female betta who appears to ignore them or some active Cochu tetra which also appear to ignore them, although they do school together sometimes. I'm just wondering if this is normal behavior for threadfin rainbow fish. Thanks so much!
  6. Just to clarify, hill stream loaches do not eat snails in my experience. Yo yo loaches do eat them but they come with their own sets of issues.
  7. Ha! so funny 😊- no worries with practice and patience u can be awesome like me 🤪 I’ve actually used a whole bottle of Clove oil on my snails before I got the loaches but I was too shy to say so. I usually do Clove oil and then finish them in the freezer - or crush and feed - whichever
  8. Ha! I think the snails will make that decision for you - even though I've been diligent in the past on snail removal, they still found a way. Now we just "coexist"
  9. I"ve been known to crush a few snail treats for my other fishies- I consider this to be "advanced" hobbyist level LOL! Sometimes I am and sometimes I ain't.
  10. Hi everyone, So I've recently lost my male Red Tail Mamore Apisto. I'm very sad as he was beautiful and had such personality. And his female seems sad too. However, to replace him would be costly because I got him thru a sale - to replace the pair would be about $80 regular price. I'm thinking of adding another pair of apistos of a different variety. Maybe some Super Red cacatuoides If they did happen to harem breed, would this significantly alter the resulting babies' desirability to other hobbyists? I'm one of those rare people that doesn't really care about breeding fish, but fish sometimes do! What does your experience say? I've included a pic for reference.
  11. Also, I'd like to add that Yoyo loaches also eat snails - though they only seem to do it when I'm not looking. I just toss my excess ramshorns in my loach tank. This seems to work for me as loaches are kind of annoying- At least I can put them to work! They seem to like the little ones best
  12. Yup- I’ve almost done that too- you’d think I’d be more careful with expensive things- sigh—
  13. Thanks so much for the helpful replies- looks like I’m in the “continue to add” camp as I’m starting to notice deficiencies. I’ll look into a test kit- I hate testing though! I guess I’ll bite the bullet 😊
  14. Yes, boiling (or drying) Repashy smells awful. However, I tried the freezing after prep idea and it works like a charm! Also it keeps it from going bad which was also a problem I was having. Such a simple solution - thank you!
  15. I suspect a lot of us are in a similar situation. It's definitely not the Co-op's fault - they shipped within hours of the day I ordered - and it was a Sunday - seems like many moons ago..... On a positive note: I can't wait to get my Ranchu sticker! I have a special place for it all ready on my MacBook cover. Everyone in the house knows which computer is Mom's!
  16. Hi Everyone, I was listening to a live stream the other day, and Cory mentioned that Easy Green now has potassium. I checked, and yup, so does the bottle I own. My question: Does anyone know when potassium was added (or upped)? I've been adding extra potassium because, in the past, I'd noticed deficiencies in my Java ferns. But now I add it as habit - I don't have a K test kit. I'd sure like to stop adding extra if I don't have too. Thanks so much! 🙂
  17. Well, isnt that interesting. I have been look for the answer for my corys- While my panda cory juveniles are good eaters, my false Julie cory adults seem more finicky. And I haven't really noticed poor water quality from the repashy - I'll bet my corys and loach crew are eating it all even though they make a mess. I can see that my concern is more of an aesthetic kind of thing.
  18. Another vote for freezing! Yesterday I made mine into jerky (by drying in an oven) which does help, but takes a REALLY long time to get consumed. I'm watching the progress, but as long as it doesn't cause an ammonia spike, I suppose no harm done.
  19. I'm interested to see if this helps. I have to target feed my cories with sinking pellets in the morning and after lights-out. Still trying to figure out the exact proportions and I have no idea if it's enough. Currently I feed one less tablet per Cory in a 90 gallon.
  20. I guess I meant it breaks apart and the pieces float around. I do think I have too much water though.
  21. This is true - although I find that if I don't feed at night, Stuff floats around for several hours. This last batch I added myosis frozen shrimps just for fun - which may have contributed to it being watery.
  22. Hmm... Never thought of freezing it. I'll try it - thank you!
  23. Hi Everyone, Does anyone know how to make Repashy less messy in the aquarium? Am I adding too much water? If I add less water, it is grainy and I wonder if its cooked. Maybe I'm overthinking it - help!
  24. Cant wait to read about your dragonfly larvae adventures! Thanks for sharing about your lively community!
