  1. Two of them are on the small, thin side but the others look nice and round. I suffer from "newbie panic" so I had an ahhhh moment. Thank you for the info!
  2. @H.K.Luterman @Cory I may be in a bit of a pickle. I read all I could find about caring for pea puffers and somehow missed the deworming portion. I just got mine from Aquahuna last night. They're in a species only tank. So, now that I already have them, do I order the paracleanse and then treat? Do I run out to the store and grab something else? If so, what? Do I feed them on the days I treat the tank? They already cleared the tank of all the small bladder snails I had in there and we fed them a few frozen bloodworms.
  3. I monitor my water almost daily so I know when to change it and have a bucket of declorinated water on standby for water changes so it's room temp. I think this specific shrimp is just sensitive. He's the smallest and most timid of the bunch. (I only have five so it's easy to keep track.)
  4. Ooops! I didn't mean to hit "like" for that response. Yeah I had no idea they were so sensitive to water changes. Last time I checked, he was upside down on the bottom of the tank but still alive so I imagine it's about over for him, which would be my first causality and makes me sad.
  5. I've read that too, so thank you for the reminder. I got them down as far as I could but I guess it wasn't far enough. Lesson learned!
  6. That's probably exactly what it was. It was a rather large water change. Everyone is still alive right now. Maybe he's just stressed out.
  7. I've heard some in new generations in the tank can come out clear but I've only had this guy for two weeks. He was lightly colored when we came in but he's very clear now overnight. I guess I'll find the answer if he dies in a day or two.
  8. Good morning all! My cherry shrimp was acting strange last night -- furiously doing laps around the tank then sinking to the bottom. Today he's acting ok but he's turned almost clear. Is this a death knell? I did do a water change and add a bunch of plants to the tank yesterday but I checked the water before I went to bed and all the levels were fine.
  9. I did a partial water change, planted eight new plants and received my frozen blood worms in the mail. Now I'm ready for my puffers!
  10. @James Black thank you for talking me off the temporary proverbial ledge. I had a moment of panic when I saw the root tabs floating on the top and thought I did something disastrous. I'll make sure to poke a hole in them from now on.
  11. @Paul_Obermiller on another plant-related note, I stuck Easy Green root tabs in the substrate but I guess I didn't get them in far enough so they popped out but I also added liquid Easy Green for the other plants so am I in the danger zone fertilizer wise? Do I just monitor the nitrates in the tank the next couple days?
  12. I purchased the swords before I knew what kind of lighting I had but oddly they seem to be doing the best out of all I've purchased so far. I know I'll have to do some major trimming with those too, but as long as I trim from the outside rather than the middle, they should be ok, right? As for the trimming the sag, what's the best way to do that? I've read about a few different methods.
  13. After over an hour of arts and crafts, I am covered in glue but I now have alllll the plants I want for the tank. I have a few different kinds of crypts, anubias nana petite, swords in the back, dwarf sag in the middle that I think I will totally need to keep trimming and a Java fern on the left that I had no clue would come that big. I really have no clue in general, but I'm proud of myself and think it looks pretty. Anything I should be concerned about? The tank lighting is just what came with the Tetra kit I got.
  14. Oh my gosh! The city just did a system flush. I don't really know what that means. Do you think that's it?
  15. Sounds like Memento, another Nolan film, which I loved the second time around. Have you seen it?
  16. @JettsPapa that's a great idea! I'm adding straws to the grocery list right now. Thank you!
  17. I realized I never did this! I live in Denver and joined the forum in December. Just wanted to say thank you to all of you out there! I recently realized how truly unique this forum is -- thoughtful, informative, supportive, welcoming, uplifting. It's a true honor and pleasure to be here.
  18. I agree with @toothgrinder. Try to put it where you can see it. I use Shrimp King as well and noticed the first time it floated on the top and then dropped in places I couldn't see. They did find it very quickly but now I'm going to try putting the food on a spoon with a little tank water so it soaks up water and will drop where I can see it.
  19. I just finished it! I adore Christopher Nolan, but I found the movie hard to follow. Maybe I had fish on the brain. Ha!
  20. Action: Any Marvel movie Comedy: Ace Ventura/Bridesmaids Drama: Saving Private Ryan/The Town/Godfather II Horror: They're all too scary for me! Fantasy/Western/Pirate: Need to explore those Sci-Fi: Cloud Atlas Sports: Moneyball Christmas: Elf/White Christmas/Christmas Vacation Romantic Comedy(ish): About Time/Quiet Man -- shout out to The Duke, John Wayne
  21. I have two older cats -- Karma & Walter -- and a paralyzed pit mix named Indy the Roller Pup. Here's a pic of Indy, Walter by the Christmas tree and one of Karma showing me she's over whatever I was doing at the time. She's a sassy one!
  22. @CorydorasEthan I love running -- I was also in cross country in high school way back when. I just ran my first marathon a couple years ago and it was one of the best experiences of my life.
  23. @Fish Folk what a fun question! In addition to being a new Nerm, I love writing and am actually the fashion editor for a Denver publication. I also recently started a small bakery because I have a strong passion for baking and making people happy, so I kind of live triple lives, but it makes for interesting days.
  24. I'm not adding anything to the water but the gh did go up in the 10 days since I first tested it, although that might be user error.
  25. @FlyingFishKeeper I've read all the articles I could find about this part of water chemistry, but I was still confused because it seems like my kh is fine but I was worried about the gh so thank you for answering my question. So gh is something you should just try to keep stable at long as the tank and its inhabitants seem fine? What if the gh continues to rise? What's the best way to lower it? More frequent water changes?
