    I'm absolutely loving this as a science nerd. Biologist and Chemist. I feel like we're going naked without all of our new contraptions..... like skinny dipping for aquarium hobbyists. Oh how riskay! It will also be very interesting to see what plant life you choose. Balancing plant and fish needs shouldn't be too difficult but I imagine species selection of plants would have been rather limited to the Americas, Europe and common specimens from other regions. This should be a blog from start to finish! Video or written form but would be awesome to see and look over.

    Will you be purchasing an icebox or no frozen food? Lighting should be interesting. what are your thoughts there? I’m In the NE and that’s tough thinking about heating and lighting. Side note.... my son’s school has the 3rd oldest electric fridge and it still works. The mansion is great but was a ton of work to turn into a school.

    So exciting!!! That tank stand is so gorgeous too. Would be awesome for a natural Asian themed tank. My kiddo is sooooo excited! Guess she’ll get a tour of our house like Murphy did. ><

    I'm torn here..... Bettas, Cichlids or shrimp.... but I guess I can have shrimp if we don't count them as "fish". While I would love to try a pea puffer, I could never not have a betta buddy. My husband would kill me if I ever bred them again....lol

    Yes. I don’t know if it was a mistake. I’m still hoping they are baby blue Amanos from diet....but they are holding color so far. I don’t want to mix my neos and need to know where I’m going to put them.... I wish they would answer.

    Definitely seen the neo breeding tree before. The issue is if they are Amanos or not. I ordered online as there is no where to get these near me. The seller is not responding so it’s more the species or even genus that’s in question more then color variety. Thank you though!

    Still staring at these to try and see if they might look any more Amano like as time passes....no answer from retailer. (Sigh) 3 in one picture and 2 in the other. The blue ones are extremely active while the more clear ones are more chill and feeding in one spot mostly

    My shrimp are super happy buggers with lots of biofilm, rock and plants. These I just got. They are in quarantine. Moss in with them and some rocks.

    Poor Nerite passed yesterday morning. He seemed to enjoy the salt and I thought he might pull through but alas he did not. I’m not seeing worms so my chance to test medications through various containers is not going to happen. Tank is otherwise ok. Newest resident is in. Thank you for your help!

    Got them set in quarantine. Hoping to give them time. If they really are not Amanos and are neos...I guess they’ll go in my son’s tank. >< Hoping they refund or ship new neos. Betta is adorable and has been “nice” to the cherry shrimp so far. He was looking at one and it smacked him in the face then ran. He looked stunned. Poor baby. Lol. ><

    So I ordered Amanos. I know then can be blue under stress or with a certain diet but I’m looking at these and not sure....

    Can I get a drill bit size for API? I've always rigged weird temporary things....this is a must!

    I'm using aquarimate....You can pay for more monthly from it but it is pretty good. I wonder how it compares to Aquarium note. Exit31, I have the same journal and was thinking of putting the stickers on it.

    Totally missed the temp....when narcoleptics read tired. Yeah. That high a temp will only add to the issues. Baking the animals and stripping O2 out.

    Ok. Nerite is still alive but either sleeping or on the doorstep. Ugh. here’s his quarantine setup. A bit of salt. Some moss from kid’s tank. Crushed coral. Bacteria added and of course declorinater. Time to water change my tank. ..... House at 74. Excessive heat outside. Heter coming Monday if I need for him. Luxury quarantine....

    Suggestions: More plants. Easy green and Easy Iron help a ton. PH is very low. With no KH it could really swing. Get some crushed coral or one of those magic shells made of calcium carbonate. Your shrimp will die with calcium to help them molt. i would start there. With the glass fish I don’t think they like higher PH but a bit closer to neutral would be good. The minerals in the water will help it stabilize. Your plants natural processes cause it to swing everyday. Plants consume oxygen at night but produce it during the day. Some tanks get crazy O2 dips at night and PH swings from the acid plants exude. Without minerals to buffer the swings can be even wider in just one day.

    Thanks! Cheers! Working my butt of today on kiddos tank, quarantine of nerite and my tank clean up from meds. Got a pregnant shrimp. saw the screen name. I’m in NJ but but I grew up in Kensington. My husband and my BIL are always heading up to Maine. Can’t wait to be back.

    Thanks so much W. He's in a hang on atm with some excess guppy grass. I'll be moving him to an extra large critter keeper with some Aquarium Coop mixed wanna be Java moss. lol I've tried wafers which I know nerites are not huge on and other veg. My shrimp tank has tons of biofilm but I don't want any of that water in with him. I'm going to put an IAL in and crushed coral pieces. I put in veggies but he is BARELY moving....won't climb sides or anything. I do want to "experiment" with the worms after I water change my tank. I'm going to get what I can of them in containers....I'll be adding Salt to one, flubendazole to another, paracleanse, and the last the NO Planaria Beni Bachi....or other Nihon (Japanese) brand.....(when you realize your Japanese aquatic vocab is not up to par when that package arrives) I'm annoyed I don't have a microscope in the house.....my ancient one must be at my in laws.....

    All living inhabitants in the tank will use up the minerals in the tank. So any any minerals not added back in sufficient supply will deplete. What size tank? What flora and fauna? Tank parameters? I would answer those first and you might just have your issue solved. Snails and shrimp need higher kh for molting etc....Crushed calcium is an easy way to add it. Not knowing your GH or TDS, I would think you are lacking other minerals as well but do not want to speculate without full results.

    I can’t wait until these are back in stock....though I’m deeply fond of the bubbling noise of 4 one liter bottles bubbling in my dining room for hungry betta adults and fry. >< ahhhh college.

    Definitely Walstad. It’s text heavy but I’m a biologist and chemist so it doesn’t bog me down much. I have Barron’s plant encyclopedia. I used to have plenty of betta references but most I know by heart by now. there is one that is out of print I do want to get my hands on.

    Love it ty! I have the nano on my pennplex radius 10 gallon and I love it. My son’s Topf in has a submersible nicrew suction cupped to the lid since the hood is low and closed off. I really like the siesta ideas. My tank gets loads of sun but I’ve got it very planted and growth is great. I don’t want to CO2 in my living room with a 4.5 year old. Wondering where you’re from. Do tell? I need to get an updated shot after I water change today. So much change.

    I think the term “breed like rabbits” should be “breed like guppies”. Good luck!
