  1. Not my Reese’s though!!!!
  2. Thank you all for your help....He hung on 3 days with the low water level, but sadly passed yesterday. Really bummed by this loss but trying to "just keep swimming".
  3. It looks like there’s nothing to be done. Rosh Hashannah tonight. Mochi had been doing ok. No change but never worse. Even my husband commented how odd it is. He is now swimming in corkscrews. I removed the sponge filter and lowered the water with an airstone and heater still in. I tried everything and he looked to be holding steady. Sigh....
  4. Ah....hiding on Instagram....I rarely look at Instagram. He has photos and vid of a lot of his shrimp tanks there.
  5. At 40 minutes he talks about his cull tanks...too many live Q&A to remember where but he has shown off the green in the skrittle tank....
  6. Can't rav enough about Co-op bulbs. Those dwarf lillies are fantastic!
  7. I'm loving watching this. I thought my 10 gallon looked heavy stocked with black bar endlers and cherry shrimp.... those nitrates were near zero despite Easy green every 2 days. >< No wonder the ludwigia is looking spindly... I hope they school for you....it's so amazing to watch that.... would be super fun!
  8. I think LRB has blues and yellows in a tank and gets tons of greens..... I don't see a lot of shrimp breeding back to wild... Similar to other species it takes awhile to get completely wild unless your stock has odd genes. Bettas for example don't turn out wild breeding 2 different colors normally... but if I breed 2 blue bettas, I may get some more wild looking or washed out colors because blue is not dominant.
  9. I'm allergic to the surfactant in most soaps and have to use plain old castille soap. I usually rinse my hands well before and scrub with soap after.... I'll have to get a fish sticker for my soap... anti-bacterial soaps are terrible anyway.
  10. I feel you here. Members only was a dream but I wouldn't want to exclude folks that cannot pay....hey I was there most of my life early on. It just drives me nuts as a member I'm limited really bad on "reactions"... maybe limit non-member posts and reactions a little more. I know there was the rank system.....maybe members could start higher or earn faster.... I'm noticing the "google" questions on the live streams.... Common species...tank size? how many? what to feed? I like in depth discussion on a species....don't get me wrong but maybe we could have pinned links that list common questions with....(i find this the saddest part)... videos and blogs made by Co-Op and friends.
  11. That turtle looks like he wants em back there....
  12. Thanks Nataku! Just what I needed not to feel like checking in... People leave so much public on there. No ty! I'm taking my few minutes a night on here if I have em....plenty to do during the day especially home schooling mini Einstein the Murphy lover ><
  13. That sucks. Yeah....it’s a really pain trying to balance kind on the internet with some of these folks. In person I don’t have these issues.... (shrug) short girls from Kensington.
  14. Looking Great! I am loving it! I do enjoy the rippling...My son's tank gets that some days. We have a sibling pair of rescue cats, Linus and Lucy. My husband calls Linus Fail Cat..... He has fallen in a tank more then once and the evidence is always needing clean up....floating plants and/or water everywhere. This creature was not supposed to be a cat. >< This is absolutely my favorite thread. Hopefully a nice wall of plants in the back will help soak up that sun and leave your inhabitants in beautiful view out front. Cheers sir! I do have one thought. Modern windows now block out a large portion of UVB and sun rays. Are you concerned at all about any parts of the spectrum missing? I know that UVB is shown to be very beneficial to plants in photosynthesis and also in the production of certain molecules. Just thoughts...or maybe the windows are from the 1930s..... My son't school was built in 1930 and has a greenhouse...I'll sneak a picture if you like from when I went in....with tons of permission. >< I was helping set up the main building. It even has a mushroom cellar! Very cool place which since it has the 3rd oldest electric fridge made me think of electricity and the tank. Oh and I know the bottom is slate....stones retain heat so would the addition of the substrate change your temps by much? So many question.....so little time. below is the greenhouse...before the adolescent kids and grounds crew started cleaning it up better. Yes an ramp was installed so that the entire school would be ADA approved There is an English garden, wooded area, 2 fountains and a modern swimming pool
  15. This is was of those deeply rooted old aquarium myths....The last paper I could find was from the 90s and stated that corys were not highly sensitive despite persistent rumors in books and by hobbyists. Corys are scaleless however and I wouldn't use high doses or long term. Ich-x has to be used at half strength with them. Corys are more sensitive to Malacite green for sure. As a scaleless fish they are more sensitive, but they have been in captivity for quite some time and may have more tolerance then back in the 50s and 60s where this notion can be documented. The dose of 1 tbsp per 3 gallons (same as one teaspoon per gallon) is a low dose salt treatment. It's considered conservative.
  16. Traps will get the big ones and control numbers... They really do work with the right type of bait. There are harsher chemical treatments but they can kill some fish and snail species so, it's really dependent on the tank.
  17. Was curious how this was going.... catfish are scaleless....so sensitive to ich-x. They need a half dose. Most fish are fine with salt. The snails will depend on the type. Nerites are actually brackish or saltwater snails...some species venture into freshwater so it really depends on the snail.
  18. I would move them to a hospital tank and use salt for a few days....that way you're not wrecking the whole tank. Just grab an extra small tank or even an XL kritter keeper.
  19. Corys are scaleless fish and Ich-x must be used in half doses to not kill them.... goes for all catfish... use salt instead to be safe.
  20. Move him to a small hospital tank. Add low dose of salt and fast that bugger for 5-7 days.... He should make a giant poop.... It may be he is constipated...I'm not seeing pineconing. A teaspoon per gallon (5ml per gallon of aquarium salt) is usually good. Mine is pineconing currently with very little bloat. They are underwater puppies and will keep begging. They need rather strict diets sometimes..... if it happens once, that particular fish is more prone to it happening again unfortunately. Daphnia, frozen or live, are good to help the food pass as well because they are the high protein the bettas need with fiber from the shells. The top down view is a bit blurry....if there is pineconing (literally scales sticking out making the fish look like a pinecone, you may need to be more aggressive as this CAN indicate dropsy. It's basically a sign of internal infection.... What dry foods is he eating? These most often cause constipation.
  21. I have to slow clap at this one as I just got reemed in Facebook betta group for asking a girl for parameters and explaining why “good” wasn’t a parameter. I think I’ll be leaving many Facebook groups and stick to here and reddit. >< r/whywomenlivelonger
  22. I was curious if anyone had some great face mask recommends. I quilt so I’ve made some but there are some that are just awesome. I got some from Korea for my kiddo on Amazon. I want a shrimp or betta one but I found one for my husband.... (In case people are not aware of 80s anime...it’s a Gundam....think transformers) I have a science and a math one as well
  23. I’ve gotta know if anyone else had a similar or even crazier boot. I largely ignore Facebook groups....my town’s group is insane. I happened to be on Facebook you checking my notifications and looked at the one betta group notification. Below I saw a post of a girl’s betta in a store cup. She uses it to remove it for cleaning.... it said how the fish was acting lethargic and had not eaten in a week. Nothing else. I saw one comment asking parameters and others just listing meds. I would say it’s unbelievable but it happens daily. I commented that removing the betta was not advised for cleaning. Asked, parameters, tank size, filter and heater. The girl had only said “good” for parameters and “decent” for tank size in a group that says it doesn’t condone less then 2.5 gallons but it’s constant. Another person commented that she hated seeing these posts constantly and without more information people would kill the fish with their misguided advice. I agreed that it would be nice if the admins stepped in with having people list the basic information but I asked and couldn’t force her to answer. All of my comments were deleted. >< Not even the girl complaining about people asking questions. I asked the admin in a message and she was such a flake. Sadly she wrote a book on bettas she says she just released. I was muted and could not get through to her that listed qualified breeders and sellers helped people not buy from petsmart and petco which they say they are against....but you can’t mention breeders.... So that’s my story and I just want to say “Thank you.” For all the folks on the board. 20 years keeping bettas....I know I speak in a very “to the point manner” but she’s got a fish laying on its side in an inch of water. Any words of encouragement welcome....that losing faith in humanity feeling is sure common this year.... Just keep swimming.
