  1. @CanadaAmanda in my case i run just air stone that is hidden in under heater. That's because i have let's say scaped tank that is filterd by external canister filter and big black sponge would take too much space and would look bad in my opinion. In case i had only fish tank, big fish tank or something like that of course i would choose to put sponge in my air stone.
  2. You could check some bigger puffer fishes for that size of tank really.
  3. @Wesgilroy One pea puffer per 3 gallons sooo 60 of them 😬
  4. I would agree with this "rule" just wanted to add canister or sump.
  5. All advices you got are good even no filter one as @Daniel told you but keep in mind that type of filter will depend also on stock level of fish and plants. 500 guppy in tank without filter will need daily water changes, is it possible yes is it work intense yes it is. Try and error is best way to learn what filtration and how muck wc you need to have stable ecosystems. Do you care about algae? With my first aquarium i had 25 gallon and small internal filter plants and lot of algae and everything worked fine until i decided to trim plants and remove algae, and guess what happened ammonia spike... algae was consuming large amount of nutrients so my tank would be stable. Some let's say anomalies are always possible.
  6. I didn't have problem with easy carbo and moss but vallisneria could melt. You need to try to know for sure😁
  7. @kammaroon when i spend good amount of money on the fishes i like to treat them especially with esha gdex and 2000 because in my experience there's good chance that fish will have internal parasites so i like to treat preventive just like we treat dogs.
  8. @Perrowto be honest i looked at some ingredients but i am not that into it so i don't know scientific and common name of ingredients so some could be the same but with different names depending on county/continent. Esha gdex- is only praziquantel vs Fritz paraclean have small dosage of antibiotic with praziquantel in it too. Esha exit- is mix of methylene blue and violet, malachite green and acridine vs Ich-x is mix of malachite green, methanol and formaldehyde Esha 2000- I can't find official ingredient list but what i can find is mix of Rivanol(antibiotic), Profalin (used for velvet and protozonas, gram + bacteria and fungus), methyl orange and small amount of copper ++ VS Maracyn is just antibiotic To conclude this is best we got based on our laws, for example for something like Maracyn we would need veterinarian prescription you can't freely buy antibiotics. I personally used all 3 of them with shrimps(neocaridina, ammano), snails (pond and nerite), fish (corys, ottos, apistos, rasboras, tetras, gobys...) Never lost a fish from those meds and they are my quarantine staple.
  9. It can be done but there is one thing you need to remember it could go well and it could go horribly wrong. Thing is if puffers are territorial and you add bunch of other fish with them they will probably go in "shy mode" or "aggression mode" in both ways you will not enjoy them. So my advice do community tank in 180 gallons and if you want them enough get one 20gallon tank and keep few of them there.
  10. There is no best filter only filter that best suits your needs. But i am big fun of canister filters and i would recommend Fluval fx 4, but to be honest you could be fine with few sponge filters or two good hang on back filters. Every one of us will recommend you filter that they like the most. You need to do your research and choose one that you like the most.
  11. Watch some puffer videos from aquarium co-op. Long story short best tank mate is no tank mate for them.
  12. Hi everyone, so i saw a lot of people from Europe asking where to get med trio or what to use in Europe etc. So i will write here some medicine list that i have experience with and many other aquarists use it as well. 1.Esha 2000 - is used for Finrot, fungal infections, bacterial infections 2.Esha Exit - is used for ich and velvet (and more rear spot disease's) 3.Esha gdex - is used for gill flukes, skin flukes and tape worm This 3 meds can be used in same time, dosage is simple and they doesn't effect invertebrates. Those 3 meds will affect wide range of disease that are most common in aquarium hobby. There are some more specific diseases that will not be treated with those meds but they are not as common. You can get it in online shops as well on Amazon. Other very good products are from JBL company but the trick is they treat specific types of disease's so you need to be sure that is right med for right disease.
  13. @James Bull hi in Europe you should be able to get ESHA products in my experience they are great. I recommend this 3 as some kind of co-op trio equivalent: ESHA 2000 (bacteria, fungus...) ESHA EXIT (ich, velvet) ESHA GDEX (tape worm, gill flukes...) Best thing you can combine them. Just read manual. Good luck.
  14. Bumping it up so more people can see it😁
  15. One fast question how long can you quarantine fish without cycled filter and only with air pump and air stone. And would 3 days without water change be ok?
  16. When i have time that day sometimes i turnon light early and do wc and maintenance then turn it back off and let it to turn on again when it should turn on by timer.
  17. No that's pond snail or blader snail or someone calls them pest snails. Nerita can't hatch in freshwater.
  18. First in vitro plants are in fertilizing gel you remove it easy with water. Second don't put whole circle in tank take it out and make few clumps of it as many as you like then with tweezers put it in substrate. You don't need to cover just roots with substrate part of the stem can bi covered too and if conditions are good it will release new roots. There is nothing extra special in planting in vitro plants vs potted plants.
  19. @StephenP2003 by unit converter aquarium is 17.7x17.7x17.7 inches in dimensions and stand top shelf is probably 18x18x18 inches
  20. I think using anesthesia on fish is more stressful then using salt especially on guppies. Just don't do that.
  21. Hi all, so quick question i have 94 liters aquarium its around 23-24 gallons it's cube model with 8mm glass and stand that is made from 20mm plywood and with full back. Top of the stand after filling aquarium got little curve, under aquarium is aqua foam so i am thinking it should be fine, sides of stand and everything else is normal. Aquarium is on that stand for 3 months and it didn't worsen it's still the same. My "wood man and aquarist" told me not to worry but i wanted to check more opinions. And just to say on this picture door of stand aren't perfectly adjusted so it could look worse than it is.
  22. There is low chance if any that some disease will transfer from shrimp to fish. On other hand snails are known that they can transfer parasites to fish. Quarantine is good idea in case that you need to treat fish you will not be restricted with meds. Because shrimps tolerate meds harder then fish.
