  1. The OD of the uplift tube on the large model is 1 1/8". If you want to go old school, Lee's still sells the Economy Corner filter. I still use box filters, and for a 10g I'd go with the Economy over the triple flow. The plastic quality on the Economy filter is better than the triple flow, but nowhere near what they use to be. The uplift tube takes up so much internal room in the triple flow versions, and the air stone is more maintenance. For anything over 10g, I go with the Jehmco round box filter. They can be noisy, like a sponge filter without an air stone, but the uplift tubes from the double sponge filters slides on the outlet tubes of both the Jehmco and Economy. You don't need fingerprints.
  2. The company that provides my water is switching sources in a couple of weeks, and there will be a drastic pH difference. Currently, my pH out of the tap, and in my tank, is 6.4. They're saying the pH after the switch over is going to be 8.2. My tank is a heavily planted 20 gallon with zebra danios, a bristle nose pleco, and tons of neocaridina shrimp. I'd have to tear down the tank to catch all the inhabitants to do a drip acclimation, would be a major pain, which I'd like to avoid. I have 2 50 gallon rubbermaid trash cans that I've filled with the current 6.4pH water. My normal water change is 5 gallons, 25%, every week. When they do finally switch the water source over, I was thinking of doing a water change with 4 gallons of the 6.4pH water, and 1 gallon of the 8.2pH water. Do that for 2 weeks. Then do water changes with 3 gallons of the 6.4pH water, and 2 gallons of the 8.2pH water. Do that for a couple of weeks. Then 2 gallons of 6.4pH, and 3 gallons of 8.2ph. Then continue that trend until I'm just using 5 gallons of 8.2pH water. Would that be too quick of a pH change? I know I could buy an RO system, then buffer my water down, but I'd like to just be able to use my water out of the tap without having to add chemicals all the time. Thanks in advance.
  3. I started out with a school of 10 Zebra Danios and one day I noticed a baby fish swimming around in the tank. I pulled the baby fish out and put him in a quarantine tank. After him growing up a little bit, I noticed the pattern was different from a Zebra danio. He's starting to act a little erratic in the quarantine tank. Will the Leopard Danio be ok in the tank of zebra danios by himself?
  4. The 5000mah version of the one @DannyBWellsuggested is $27. That's the one I use. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/anker-powercore-fusion-5000-mah-portable-charger-for-most-usb-enabled-devices-black/6348856.p?skuId=6348856
  5. I'd rather have blue shrimp though. If I wanted brown I would have bought brown.
  6. I purchased some Blue Velvet shrimp on April 15th from an online retailer and haven't added any other shrimp to the tank. Now my babies are almost all brown. Am I feeding them the wrong foods or did they just have poor genetics?
  7. I live in rural ND so power outages in the winter during a blizzard can last multiple days. Luckily I have a wood pellet stove to keep me warm but it's not great for whole home heating. I picked up a cheap "tailgating" generator from Harbor Freight, I believe it was under $150, to run my heater and a small air pump with an air stone for water movement. I use a space blanket to wrap the tank to help keep the temperature in. I keep AmQuel on hand for those moments as well and test, test, test.
  8. What time do you guys change your water? Immediately after the lights come on? After a couple hours of the lights being on? Towards the end of your light cycle?
  9. I've got a 1/4" scar on the side of my ring finger from a female Darwin Clownfish. Mama wasn't happy with me pulling her eggs.
  10. I'm surprised Least Killifish haven't taken off in the aquarium trade in the USA.

  12. Some puffers will be against the glass whenever you're in the room. They're like a dog always wanting a treat. As for keeping them engaged, change up your decoration location if possible.
  13. I've been down that road before but I'm not going to get carried away this time. My favorite LFS closed a couple of years ago and the other stores around me aren't that great. I'm pretty much stuck with ordering fish online and it's gotten too cold to ship to my area.
  14. Hello from rural ND! After a couple years out of the hobby, I decided to get back into the hobby with a planted shrimp tank after coming across the Co-Op's videos on Youtube. So far I've got a 10g low tech planted shrimp tank. It's noting fancy but I'm enjoying getting back into the hobby. I plan on picking up another 10g tank when I get to the city next time.
  15. Not a new product but one that isn't made anymore, the Whisper Diatomagic filter. They worked great against free floating parasites.
  16. Do you remember the lights that would burn your fingers? I have memories of getting burnt more than once by the light. I still have a glass bottomed 10g MetaFrame but unfortunately it leaks. I've tried a couple times to reseal it but I haven't had any success yet. I picked up a 2.5g a couple years ago but unfortunately it leaks as well.
  17. BRS is great. I've been a customer of theirs since 2013 and I've never had an issue. With BRS you also get great customer support so if you ever have a question, they're just a phone call away unlike something you buy off of Amazon.
  18. I've printed a couple of things but nothing that goes in the tank. If you're going to make stuff to go in your tank, make sure they use ABS or food grade PETG filament. If you use PLA, the most common type of filament, it will disintegrate in your tank. PLA is usually made of corn but the dye used is toxic. One of the best things I've made is a test kit holder for the API FW Master kit. I love it and would highly recommend making one if you have a printer. I've also made a mount to hold a computer fan for cooling. For my friends SW sump I made a dosing line holder. I like my 3d printer, but if the object is commercially available I'd rather buy it.
