  1. I forgot to mention that on Saturday my wife and I spent at least two hours off and on attempting to catch the female flagfish. I ended up getting my shirt drenched twice. She was a little escape artist. The male was a piece of cake. Five minutes, tops. Now that they're in the tank they're always hiding out and wherever she goes, he follows.
  2. Nice! I feel like there are at least six of us on here. If you make it out to the meeting this Saturday these tanks will be in the home show.
  3. Here are some pictures of fry hiding out on top of a partially floating leaf: Close ups:
  4. I like Seriously Fish and Fish Base Those tend to be pretty consistent and use good data
  5. That has to be either a poorly executed joke or an AI generated article.
  6. I have that same tank. I'd recommend swapping out the filter for a small sponge filter. The built-in one gets stuck all the time. I've kept cherry shrimp and a pair of Nothobranchius Killifish in it (at separate times). If you have plants and you are doing frequent water changes, then you may be able to get away with some nothos but it's easy to get lazy and have the water turn quickly.
  7. Ohh that's a nice find! Maybe you could print 1/4 of a stump with roots to put in the corner to make it look like a tree growing out of the water. Maybe you could even hide the filter in it.
  8. More fry have started popping up. There is the large one who is not shy at all now: That is a macro picture so it makes it look bigger than it really is. Here's a picture with better sense of scale: Oh wait! There's a tiny one in that picture too! It seems like the are at least two but possibly three or more small, one to two week old fry: There are some floating leaves in there and I've noticed the small fry will hide on top of the leaf. The adults don't really pursue the fry. They'll start towards them but as soon as the fry moves they'll give up. I guess it's not worth the effort. Honestly, it's cool that they are spawning and there aren't any signs of injury from the males sparring. Eventually they'll need to be moved to a bigger tank I suspect. Maybe a pair can stay behind but at this rate it's going to get crowded fast. It's already a bit cramped in there.
  9. It's... Surviving. I don't think the setup is ideal for them. Now I'm just using them as a supplement to other live foods. Although I may try building a blackworm tower like @modified lung did.
  10. No ammonia leeching from the soil. Or if it is then it's being converted/absorbed because tests are showing 0 ammonia. I added another rock to weigh down the coconut stem so that hopefully it sinks faster. In other news, the Aphyosemion Ocellatum fry are doing well and all are still alive and growing:
  11. The oldest tank I have is a year and a half Here's when it was first setup: Here it is now:
  12. I'm sorry that took the responses as hostility towards you. That website has a D- rating on BBB https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/sunnyvale/profile/internet-service/aliexpress-1216-230194 Generally speaking, there isn't a place you're going to get wholesale prices unless you buy at wholesale volume.
  13. I'm also a fish food hoarder so I may have to try that! I've seen them explode when I add some nutritional yeast. I read somewhere that they need a lot of vitamin B.
  14. I've seen that too... So often people are selling their whole setup with all the decorations they paid too much for and trying to get roughly the same amount they paid. I got a 40 breeder for $40 about two years ago but it has some scratches. I kind of wish I had just spent the $20 more to get brand new.
  15. Kind of funny that they were that loud and only just discovered now
  16. It's crazy to me how many people said one 100 gallon tank As a killifish person I would 100% do 10 10s. That gives you space to have more varieties of fish, to raise fry, to separate out breeding pairs, to isolate sick/troublesome fish. So many more options.
  17. Finally setting up the 20 long First an initial layer of fluval stratum: Then thoroughly rinsed caribsea super naturals fine gravel: Then the wood, coconut stem, coconut huts, and ACO sponge filter: Then the moment of truth: Filling it up with water Yeah... It's going to be ugly for a bit. I used mulm filled water from cleaning out the sponges in my main tank along with some old filter floss to jump start the cycle. The fluval will likely leech some ammonia. I'll test for that tomorrow and hopefully get a heater and temporary light in place. Thanks! Initially, it was going to be a false bottom for a paludarium but the waxy coating made me nervous. It's been sitting next to my aquarium stuff since then and I noticed that it's basically the exact right height
  18. Maybe it's not the best practice but when I divide mine I'll take a big section of coir from the culture to start the new one. Then I'll replace that with new coir. I feed them ground up grain cereal. But they also don't seem to really explode in population
  19. Honestly, I have trouble trusting anywhere online for buying tanks. I know they have to get shipped to the store but something about them getting shipped to my house makes me nervous. That's kind of the reason who Aquarium co-op only has their new aquarium in their physical store. Facebook market, offer up, Craigslist, etc are your best bet for getting a cheap aquarium but those come with their own risks
  20. While feeding brine shrimp at lunch, I noticed another, even smaller fry: It looks like you can still see part of its yolk sac. Based on it's size the other fry must be a few weeks old already.
  21. Unpopular opinion: I'm not a fan of liquid test kits It didn't happen as much on this forum but there are places that get a bit gatekeepy about them. They are more accurate but so much more work and I'm not convinced that the cost benefit ratio is worth it. That said, Nutrafin has those other tests and that is really intriguing. It would be cool to know your potassium levels for stuff like Java fern Is that brand more marine focused?
  22. Shrimp would work well and you could "make money" off them. People are always looking for shrimp. Another option (if you have a lid) could be a pair of killifish like Nothobranchius Eggersi: You may even get away without needing a heater for either of those suggestions
  23. To me it just looks like mulm but maybe there's something more to it
  24. Googling that just comes back with sandals for me... They almost look like some form of polyp or coral. Do they react to being touched?
