  1. @EricksonAquatics how is the ring attached to the sides of the aquarium to keep it in place? I've seen some with suction cups, but then you can see them when looking into the aquarium.
  2. I am looking for plant suggestions to replace the Anubias Nana that I have attached to the rocks directly under my light in my 75 gallon tank. There is a picture below of the plant. I have the algae under control now, but the plant is being blasted a bit with excessive light for its preferences. There is no CO2 on the aquarium, and I'm not sure it would qualify as a "high light" plant location as my light isn't as powerful as the lights some run, but it's definitely more than the anubias cares for. Ideally it would be good if the plant didn't get too huge as I don't want it taking over and something I could just attach to the rock would be perfect. The aquarium is just a standard community aquarium, it gets easy green and potasium twice a week. I use soft water but supplement with Seachem Equilibrium. The water pH is high 7's to 8.2-ish.
  3. So, what do you do when the rest of life has you completely consumed and you have no time to troubleshoot your aquarium and it starts to get away on you? I was wondering what you all do in those senerios to reduce the losses when you simply do not have time to keep tabs on all of the tank parameters to figure out what just thrown out of wack. Ever since Christmas I've been working long hours and there has been tons of family obligations so I feel like I've been doing the bare minimum and mostly just feeling my way through things on the aquarium.. Its probably going to be another 4-6 weeks before things calm back down and i get a little more time (I really home I'm not wishful thinking that there is light at the end of the tunnel). My fish have been healthy, but the algee is starting to overwhelm some of my plants and I can't quite put my finger on what to change. I have a few pics I took this evening attached below to explain things. I've been dosing Easy Green every 2 to 3 days. On the 1st day I dose easy green + Postasium (it seems to help the Java ferns), then on day 3 I dose easy green + Phosphorus (my anubius was looking a bit yellow and this seemed to help, but I'm not so sure about that anymore). Then on day 5 or 6 I'll dose just easy green by itself. Then 2 or 3 days after that the cycle repeats. My biggest concern currently are my Anubias plants. The Anubias Barteri took forever to grow to the size it is, but it looks like it's ready to keel over. The Anubias Nana on the rocks doesn't really look any better. The pennywort on the surface seems to be dwindling away and the amazon swords are rather week and not really growing. The windalov Java ferns seem to be holding their own. The octopus plant is really the only thing thriving currently in the tank. Water wise I do you soft water and back add seachem Equilibrium to it. I do a roughly 30 to 40% water change every 2 to 3 weeks. At the moment I'm thinking maybe I should try dropping the phosphorus out of the schedule, but that is totally just a guess.
  4. That's an awesome idea, I'm pretty sure if I actually tried to grow algae it would disappear. 🙂
  5. @Mmiller2001 you have the nicest looking vomit I've ever seen!
  6. I was wondering what everyone's aquarium looks like after they have run it for a few years. I've seen a few aquarium that look immaculate shortly after they were set up, but I've always wondered what they look like after a few years of running them. I attached a picture of my 75 gallon below.
  7. I was wondering if anyone has ever noticed that some angel fish are more aggressive towards other fish than others. For me the Koi Angels seem to be a bit more territorial than some of the other angels I've had. I've always wondered if it's just my luck of the draw, or if whatever fish they cross an angel fish with to get a koi version tends to make them a bit more territorial. What experiences have you all had?
  8. @TOtrees. Do you know of any fish that eat the Nerite Snail eggs?
  9. I have a simple question and after looking around online I've found conflicting information on it, so I thought I would ask here. Do nerite snails sucessfully reproduce in freshwater aquariums? I've debated about getting some for my aquarium to nock down some of the algae but I'm not really wanting 100 snails in there. The 3 mystery snails are pretty easy to keep in check.
  10. I am currently looking to see if anyone has a suggestion for a fish that has lots of personality but would get along with swords, mollies, platties, cories, Buenos Aires Tetras, and black skirted tetras. I have a 75 gallon planted aquarium currently. The 2 angelfish I use to have in there had quite a bit of personality but the last of them passed on recently. I've always liked fish that interact with you a bit, vs ones that just hide the moment they realize you are looking in there. Last night my 6 year old daughter told me my aquarium is now boring without my angelfish in there because everything else in there doesn't like to play when she goes up to the aquarium.
  11. Well, I noticed 2 days ago that the angel fish wasn't eating at night and was staying back in the corner by the filter in the area that he had claimed as his for the last 6 months. The next day my 6 year old daughter found him dead on the bottom. Not the best day for her. That was her favorite fish in there since he had the most personality in the tank and would follow her around where ever she was looking into the tank along with following her finger all over the tank as she moved it around.
  12. If you are looking for a black background, I've had really good luck with the spray plasti-dip on the back of my 75 gallon aquarium. It's also removable if needed. I haven't tried removing it yet, but it seems like I probably could remove it if I wanted too.
  13. I'm trying to figure out what happened to my koi Angel fish. Today I noticed that he has a mark on his side and I'm not sure if it's a bacterial, parasite, or physical damage issue. He's basically the biggest thing in my 75 gallon tank. The next closest in size to him is a 4-5" bristlenose pleco. The other fish are black and white skirted tetras, a Denson barb, 3 mollies, 4 siamese algee eaters, an oto. I'm trying to figure out what I should put in the tank, meds wise, to help, but I'm not sure what is up. Water parameters: Nitrates: <10 ppm Nitrites: 0 ppm Hardness: 150-300 ppm Buffer: 180ppm PH: 7.6 to 8.0 Chlorine: 0 ppm
  14. I use Seachem Equilibrium in my 75 gallon aquarium and my snails seem to stay healthy. The plants seem to benefit from it as well.
  15. Battery powered under cabinet lighting... why did I not install this sooner. It's amazing how much easier it is to find things when you can actually see. I picked up a couple battery powered lights from the hardware store and they are attached using the little removable 3M picture hanging velcro strips.
