What did you get done today?

The pair of BSP laid eggs but on the side of the leaves facing the back of the tank.  They used 3 of the new sword leaves.  They are gone this morning.  I’m not quite ready to raise babies, anyway.  I do plan to move them to their 20 high but I think that heaters not working right.  The temp isn’t coming up as much as it should.  I’m giving it another couple hours and if still not coming up I’ll put a different heater in there.  The pair will get moved before Sunday.  I have the excess plants moved out, a few Anubias moved in that have gotten freshly RR treated for about 18 hours since they had some BBA on them.  I need to pop a couple more ramshorn snails in there to clean up the dying BBA (I’ve got plenty of those 😝).

I still need to clean out and reset the 29 G.  I have to catch pea puffers first.  🤦🏻‍♀️

Had a job interview in a local "Home Depot" for the fish and aquarium departement.
So fingers crossed 😉.

(Don't know the actually word for a place like Home Depot other then the company name?)

Home Depot has an aquarium department?  I’ve seen some pond supplies, but nothing aquarium specific.  Interesting.

The one here in Europe does (called Hornbach, not Home Depot). It's actually a pretty big departement for especially dry goods. The company has a 'lowest price guarantee', so I've bought a lot of my hardware there.

The fish and plants itself are basic most of the time. But they just started looking for 'specialists' for all the stores. So maybe that may change 😉.

Very cool!  That sounds awesome!

No fish at all here, and only a couple shelf sections for supplies plus a few sections for small pre-formed ponds.  Sometimes a couple small ponds set up with block walls and liners if they have someone that likes doing that stuff.

20% water change, plant trim and maintenance on my 6 gallon - red guppies and orange pumpkin shrimp. Also ATTACKING the BBA haha (cleaning off driftwood is a weekly chore it seems)

Trying to decide on lighting and filter for my next tank - 45p (10 gallon) iwagumi. Fun to think about!

Today I read about preparing your tanks for power outages while listening to the Cory’s live stream. I have the ACO nano air pump but only one. Sounds like another ACO shipment soon!  Pondered whether I have too many Black Phantom Tetras in my 20H (8) due to some fin nipping. The boys battle a bit but the females seem to be a bit nippy too. Thinking they need a longer tank. Plus the Otos might come out more if there were fewer Tetras grumping around.

I added Anubias nana petite to my 20g long, did water changes and manual snail removal from my 29g, and picked up some new white clouds to give my sole pond survivor some buddies to school with.

I also started a duckweed vase so I will have duckweed to feed my pond goldfish now that he’s indoors.

In other words, I enjoyed all my tanks today— happy with how they are working and looking!

Currently sitting here drinking some dark cocoa.   If you usually buy the packets, I recommend just getting a good cocoa powder and making it manually.  Night and day in terms of flavor and health benefits (less sugar if you want) and you can choose the intensity.  The tea is cooling off, but it's next!

I just got done doing my weekly maintenance.  I recorded a video for the seachem testing to show progress of the experiments.  Then, I went ahead and pulled all the wood out of the tank so I can siphon things really well.  I tried to scrub off some of the BBA on the rocks to some success, but it really isn't going to do much.  Emptied out what I needed to in terms of water, siphoned as best I could with that volume of water being removed.  I wish I was taking out more water to siphon more, but it is what it is.  the fry need the mulm!  I pulled a bunch of junk out of the S. Repens patch and hopefully that gives them a bit more room to swim around without all the balls of BBA floating around.

I did some housework moving things and cooking spaghetti.  Made my mom's spaghetti sauce recipe and the food was good, so no complaints.  Cleaned everything and then gave the pups a bath.  Their first one in the new sink and it went well enough.  They have their sweaters on now, bundled up for the night and sleeping beside me.

A monumentally better day than the one I had previously.

Edit: Oh I forgot to share.  Meet my dosing funnel.  This is what happens when you have saran wrap all over the front of your tank. LOL.

Stocked another tank, Found a beautiful albino bristlenose male and got a female from another source, picked up a half dozen panda corys, and a half dozen panda platys, picked up another Java fern, and found a local source for java moss

I call the new tank my black and white tank because of the coloration of the fish

Got tank 2, cleared up with no casualties.

Next item is a small desk lamp for raising baby brine

Oh yeah, I sank my granddaughter's Sponge bob decoration in Unit 2, to give her a head start on beneficial bacteria for when we start her tank

How big is your tank, how many tetras?  I would never go less than 5-6 tetras since that number or above spreads any aggression.  More numbers disperse it even better plus usually keeps them busy among themselves instead of harassing other species.  Otos can certainly be shy but with enough cover and plants, they appear to still be happy.  My answer is almost always more plants.  😉 😃

Yes, a 20H with 8 phantom tetras. One of the males has a split fin and so do a couple of females. It has plants but maybe not enough yet. It's slowly filling in from the days/years of neglect. It's a low tech ancient Flora Max substrate with a Satellite Freshwater LED + light. My plants are growing so that's good. I do have a nice crop of ramshorn snails going though. 5 Otos in theory but the most I've counted lately is 4. I see one fairly regularly in daylight but have to sneak up on the others after the lights go out with a flashlight.

While I have your attention and knowledge - the brown hard circles near substrate edge - thoughts? Diatoms I think but they are pretty indestructible. I considered sandpaper but that might be a bit much. 😉
