  1. an air stone is great to keep water oxygenated, and moving in the tank. ideally, if your filter failed, you would still have enough beneficial bacteria in your substrate, on the glass, and on plants, and decor that a filter failure in and of itself will not crash your tank.
  2. id start with a good straight edge to check whats flat and what isnt. only way to know if its the stand, or the tank. from the pictures, it sure looks like the frame of the tank is the problem, but the eyeball mk1 isnt always accurate.
  3. ive been called lefty for on and off 50 years, and my last name starts with an O. fairly simplistic.
  4. with a nicely planted tank, the fish will find things to nibble on. i would have your friend stop by and feed 3x in that 12 days. pre package the amount for them, so they cant way over feed them.
  5. just so that you are fully aware, there is no such thing as a "mild" case of mts.🤪
  6. i try not to mess with mixing things, as it adds variables. i tend to set up a tank, and just roll with it. if you have hard water, start with that in mind, but dont hesitate to experiment, as despite what many say there are many things folks say wont work in hard water or soft water, that cross over just fine.
  7. plants definately make an aquarium better.
  8. i think it has more to do with usps employees that dont care. my fun one last winter usps shipped my co-op order from washington, to mnpls ( im just north of mnpls), to denver, back to mnpls, then finally to the local post office.
  9. ive kept them in singles, and pairs. great little fish.
  10. sometimes they are little too brave, or a little too dumb, and wander out in the open well before they should.
  11. and people wonder why postage costs so much these days.
  12. guppies will likely pick off the shrimplets, but adults should do fine.
  13. all black can look really cool. no doubt about it. for me, my most preferred color is river rock type with white, browns, and blacks in it. hides filth well. contrasting if i want non natural looking, i generally go with black mixed in with about 30% dark blue. shows more than natural colors do, but still hides better than all black.
  14. oh, i would spread them out some. they grow very slowly, but they will spread out with the rhizome. bonus is, once they do fill in and keep getting longer, you can break off the rhizome, and replant what you broke off.
  15. well, you can pretty much stick anubias to anything and they will grow there. you just need to pick out the individual variety that you like.
