  1. You can add wondershell but your high ph and buffer probably means it won't dissolve very quickly. It can't hurt tho.
  2. That's an amphipod (scud). If you have one there's more. Your fish will eat both the hydras and the scuds and keep their numbers down but you're probably stuck with them forever now. Enjoy your new pets!!
  3. I've had bad luck with neons. I think they just have bad treatment in breeding and shipping because they're such a popular commodity fish. Cardinals seem to have much better and healthier sourcing but are more expensive. I think they get a little bigger than neons too. Green neons are super cool but they stay tiny so they're not very brave unless you get a bunch of them. Get at least 10 tetras of whatever species if you want them to school around and not hide as much.
  4. They won't get stuck. I got a billion shrimps and platy fry in my tank and they're fine with the sponge filter. Once the filter is on with airflow they won't be able to swim down in it
  5. Yeah you can hang it on there. Just be careful you got the valve closed so you don't leak salt water inside the tank
  6. Let them both run for a couple weeks before removing the hob
  7. Once a day is fine. They're not little babies. They'll graze on biofilm in the tank too
  8. Does osmocoat make aquarium products or is this just the regular garden fertilizer???
  9. The smallest shark pro has almost way too much flow for my 40 gallon even on the lowest setting. In a ten gallon the shrimps would be flying 🤣 I second the adv
  10. 2 gallons is pretty small. I wouldn't over think it
  11. Sicces are expensive and nice but I think a sponge filter would be better for a shrimp only tank. No biological filter is gonna remove nitrates and phosphates. Especially if they're in the source water. There are filter pads that can remove phosphates. Nitrates are normally removed by plants or water changes. You may want to look into reverse osmosis if your source water is that polluted
  12. snails tend to defy our attempts to control their numbers just leave the driftwood be it will clear up over time and the tannins don't hurt anything. there's no point doing water changes if you don't have any livestock
  13. They like being in a large group. Like many nano fish they are a schooling prey fish and if they can't see a bunch of their buddies out in the open running around they will assume it is because the environment is dangerous and there is a predator around and everyone else is hiding so they will hide as well. The fish do not understand they are in a tank and are perfectly safe. 7 gallons is pretty small for a bunch of corys tho
  14. The main problem with any air based filtration is that it's loud. I dunno what you can really do because the whole point of the fluidized bed is that all the little bits and bobs mash around in there to create turbulent flow which is loud by its nature. I had a hob for water polishing that drove me nuts buzzing and rattling and eventually I had to replace it with a sicce internal filter that is completely silent.
  15. It's just biofilm. Snails will clear it up
  16. Two gallons really isn't gonna be enough room to go crazy on substrate. What's the dimensions on it?
  17. My main problem with a lidless tank wasn't jumping fish but so much evaporatation. I was topping off all the time and the heater was running constantly
  18. I like to change water 20-25% at least twice a month just because there's so much junk that builds up that we don't test for.
  19. My pleco and shrimp are just fine. They've never been bothered by water changes. I change water like once every week or two and have never had any problems.
  20. The galvanization is a sacrificial anode. Once it's gone it doesn't protect the steel anymore
  21. You want a cycled tank for shrimps. No ammonia or nitrites. As far as rodi I just plopped my shrimp into my tap water and there's a billion of them now. Java moss is a must for shrimps. They love it. Sometimes they swim up to the hornwort but usually they like to stay on the bottom.
  22. The first instars are really tiny. They're also transparent and immobile. I didn't notice my babies until they were in the juvenile stage
  23. Plants will remove ammonia directly as well as nitrates. They cannot really use nitrites so those tend to build up in an uncycled planted tank. The nitrite bacteria will take a while to build up... Water changes should take care of it tho
